- We need more sunshine in our lives these days with all the gloom, paranoia, and fear the "popular" news media love to sell. One of my earliest memories of my childhood was of my mother singing this song which was going through one of it's many popular releases from 1930s through the 1960s . My mother loved to sing and play the piano. Krystal Harman is singing "You Are My Sunshine".
This song was popularized by Jimmie Davis (former Governor of Louisiana) who is frequently credited as the composer on music listings. Davis was never known actually to claim authorship but he bought the song and rights from Paul Rice in a series of previous ownership. Peer Music now holds ownership. The original composer and first public performer is thought to be Oliver Hood, a LaGrange, Georgia musician (about 1933).
The Jonesborough Farmers Market is restarting again for the 2020 season but with some changes to enforce "safe distancing" for reducing health risks from the Hunan bat soup virus.
Empty Bottle String Band performs at their 2019 September appearance for "Music At the Market" which is part of the Jonesborough Farmers Market held on Saturday mornings in historic downtown Jonesborough, Tennessee (Tennessee's oldest incorporated town). The band was formed when they were all students at East Tennessee State University to perform a one-time gig at a new on-campus farmers market ( • The Empty Bottle Strin... ). They were so well received they decided to keep going and one of their earliest off-campus gigs was at the Jonesborough Farmers Market ( • Empty Bottle String Ba... ). History suggests that a performance at this location has become somewhat of an annual pilgrimage and in 2019 they have scheduled appearances for both August and September.

The Empty Bottle String Band is a seven year old Old-Time/Americana band comprised of current and former students in the ETSU Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Country Music Studies Program. Performing here were:

This is how music should be sung. None of the currently popular ululation used to hide the singer's inability to hit the notes squarely. These people aren't trying to impress me with their vocal gymnastics. They just want to sing me a song, and I appreciate it.
You wrote what I was thinking. These young people just recently found me on CZcams (: I have been binge listening since, I can't find anything they've done that does doesn't make me feel the same way each time....Just good honest music done the way it was meant to be played. I hope they are still now, and continue well into the future to do what they are doing, They are master at their craft.
I love how people come up with various versions of my favorite song growing up my late grandma always sang this to me and my brothers and growing believe it or not you are my sunshine was my very first song I ever learned to play on piano and i couldn't even sleep growing up if I did not hear you are my sunshine and im still like that and im goin on 35 years old i still love this song and always will as it not only is a child hood song but it reminds me so much of my late grandma who passed away from cancer 9 years ago and i miss my geandma dearly😢
how beautiful guys....i always thought Leadbelly wrote this sweet song. it so reminds me of "If you go away" by Jacques Brel, with a similar sentiment.

The day my son was born, we had this played on the hospital radio. That was long before this band was born! Seems an odd choice, but my wife called him "My sunshine" before he was born. He's 37 now and we couldn't be more proud of him he realy is still our sunshine.
