    I have an Australian spec E model with full subframe, stroked and bored to 472cc and fitted with the ACT wide ratio gearbox with 15/42 gearing. First gear is stock, so it’s still great on single track, but with 5th gear effectively being 6th gear it’ll sit on 80mph all day at 5200 rpm. Stiffest Eibach shock and fork springs, gold valves set to Hard Enduro, and all the 51hp gets down to the dirt. Bike cost US$1300 and mods US$2500. Labour was free courtesy of myself. It’s a great little dual sport...also have my 1190R for longer hauls.

      that is awesome dude! I definitely would love to get ACT gears one day! that is in the near future and not to mention even with the price of the mods, it still comes out better than most modern day dualsports

    You nailed it. I feel guilty riding my XCW 300 on easy roads. Every mile I ride that’s “easy” is a wasted mile on my KTM. That’s why I’m looking to get a DRZ, so I don’t feel guilty about exploring some forest and BLM roads on a high performance machine. Glad to hear someone else feels similar. Thanks for the video.

    Everyone should own a DRZ400 for the simple fact it's easy to work on and bulletproof. Get one and pass it down to your kids to learn on

    I am so glad I bought an E! My buddy has a crf650 and he rode my 400e and he loved it!

    I started out on a S version, but decided it was too heavy for the singletrack. It was buzzy on the road and not so stable. Especially in the wind. I found a mint 2001 E model and love it! I subsequently found a deal on a DR650 and modded the heck out of it, including an 18" rear wheel. Honestly, I'd never buy another S as I can ride my 650 anywhere I'd ride my previous S and it's waaay better on the road.

    My main concern when buying a dual sport was reliability. As at the time I had a ktm 1290 super adventurer. Definitely the wrong tool for riding in southern New Mexico. I relocated from Pennsylvania . Breaking down in the desert is not an option. This bike is feather light in comparison to my big adventure bike. As far as the power. The only disadvantage is that snap.help when you need to get that front in short order. And the other is the rear spring. It'sa little soft. But these thing can be corrected. I'm very happy with the drzs. And fyi , you keep that engine in the higher rpm in the dirt/sand rocks ect. That bike is no slouch

      i feel like now and days, DS are going to be pretty dang reliable no matter which brand you go with. my buddy has 10k miles on his ktm with 0 issues and still ticking. Esp the DRZ400. I hope one day they will make a bike similar but with a 6 speed. a 6 speed will go a long way if you gear your DRZ400 very short

    I've got 21", 18" for my SM and when I soften the suspension I prefer it to my old E model, yes it has little less power but the SM suspension made it a better bike on the trails.

    Nice ride and review on the DRZ's and love the "Open Range Cattle Gard " at 1:56 ! 👍 I'm mostly an off roader riding two cycle Suzuki RM and PE models so this DRZ 400 four stroke looks interesting as it's more road oriented for long rides !

    So can you tell me something >> > When was the "E" version sold in the United States? Most are in Australia & I think if I
    were to buy a DRZ400 I'd really want the "E" version. More power & from what I see I'd like it more. I mean if ya wanted a
    SM model you can get the "E" and get the wheels you wanted. It's a win/win deal but I didn't see it on Suzuki site. peace

    E is dirt only, right?
    I thought the frames were identical.

    • @ronanrogers4127
      @ronanrogers4127 Před 4 lety +3

      Depends on the market. In Australia the E has the same full subframe as the S and SM. In the States the E doesn’t have a full subframe and can’t support a pillion weight, or even much camping gear

      @@superj7106 when facts hurt your feelings. brand new drz400e puts down 40hp+ stock at the wheel with restrictors removed. all of them 2000-2020. heavily modified drz's have put down anything up to 70hp.

      @@6226superhurricane I have a 462cc with E cams, pumper, and larger diameter header with straight through muffler (it’s an E model with full subframe)...I fitted an AEM AFR wideband and properly jetted the pumper, and it puts out 51 rwhp. 70 is physically impossible unless it has forced induction.
