Being a Indian I still enjoy watching Sinf-e-Aahan because it’s a story of women who comes from different background yet they have shown to be so strong and powerful… These kind of dramas are much needed more than saas bahu sagas which are unbearable…. Women should be shown as strong characters in dramas and shouldn’t not be portrayed as victims. What you show in dramas influences the society therefore if you show women empowerment then probably women can learn to take a stand for themselves…

I think people forget that women are 51% of the worlds population, and in reality women actually do such tough jobs in poorer countries, and also in the west, many are not in a position to wait for a man to rescue them! Sadly these are not the stories which make up these dramas! Think of war torn countries where the husbands and sons are dead, yet the women finds ways to ensure their kids survive, even if it’s walking thousands of miles with just the clothes on their backs and kids on tow to find refuge!

I agree 100% with Hassan and Aamna. There's definitely a link missing in Sherezaad's track. The premise of her staying in Laspiran and becoming so fond of these people is so weak. She heard about a backward custom of Ghagg in Laspiran. She came as a savior of these Ghag-ed women. No one invited her to stay here for forever.
There should've been a stronger premise of Shehrezaad being so fond of Haji and Zarsanga. Maybe Haji could have saved her from an ugly incident and now she feels indebted to stay with them in this helpless situation and emotionally support them. I really don't understand why on earth she is trusting these people, especially given her history.
Hassan do let me know what you think! (Aamna doesn't usually reply to comments but you do :))

I think that her backstory, no matter how small it was, was premise enough. She is someone who’s been abused emotionally and physically throughout her life. And she never really got ‘love or affection’ in any form. The way she fell in love with Hilmand on just a hint of him being a protector is enough to describe her as a person who jumps to grab any positive emotion thrown her way. Also if you remember her backstory…. there was this part about her being the person jo chup kay apnay cousins ka khana bhi kha leti thi. So she is someone who takes what she wants… And I don’t mean it in a negative way at all. So I think it’s consistent with her character to try and settle in a place she’s ever felt at home. And she’s never had any loving relations in her life…. So she’s greedy for those. And she’s taking them when she’s found them the way she used to eat the food from the fridge even though her aunt didn’t want her to.

Salient features of Sange e Mah
    1. Most of the people of Laspeeran are afeemchi or charsi.
    2. Stabbing people is Mastaan Singh’s hobby.
    3. Seems dad Noman Ijaz saved all spankings for his son’s naughty childhood behaviour for this drama. The poor lad, Zaviyar, gets a beating from his dad in every episode.
    4. A young girl visits and starts living with complete strangers, with completely different background, and starts meddling in their family matters. The odd thing is that no body , including the girl herself, finds it odd.

I totally agree with Amna Mere Humsafar is a proper fairytale and that's why it resonates with the audience so much. Sometimes it's a relief to watch something that is not as deep or provoking especially watching Farhan Saeed is a treat he is a proper hero that you get to see amazing. Allthough I don't think the next episode has anything to do with the mother I think Sameen is going to attempt suicide or someone is definitely going to get hurt Khurram's track is not yet coming I'm pretty sure of that.

And the strongest turning point for him was his last meeting with Gulmina after which they officially broke up & Gulmina goes back to Zarghona and says ‘meri mohabbat bhi margyi’ after which her mom thinks she killed Hikmat & rushes to confirm… THAT was what broke Hikmat & made him rebellious‼️

Sang e Mah: The major flaw that I found with Shehrezad character is that, she quit her job to live with a Pukhtoon family without their consent and the thing that doesn't sit well is she is not respecting the values and cultures of Pukhtoons. Who goes infront of their father without a duppatta in Pukhtoon family and the way she is interacting with Hikmat and Haji Marjaan does not happen in the real life.

As a reporter when she was staying in Haji Marjaan's house, it was okay to some extent but now that she has left her job and not writing a story on ghag and yet living there and behaving like an actual member of the household and interfering in their family affairs, it seems quite odd. Thanks for bringing this point up, because this is exactly what I was thinking when I was watching the recent episode.

Well I guess Hikmat has several reasons to turn around. First his father gave all his inheritance to his step son and then both parents preferred his older brother over him on numerous occasions. He is slapped by both parents all the time especially on last scene he was declared guilty without listening to his side of the story. He was also provoked by Gulmina and his mother several times that he is buzdil. These are enough reasons for one to change or react the way he is reacting. In addition providing guards for him is telling him that his brother may try to kill him and ghak on his childhood love etc

I don’t know if you guys will notice my comment but I have been meaning to comment on Sang-e-Mah. I understand how people are saying we shouldn’t be stereotyping any culture dah dah dah… Being a Pakhtoon myself, I happened to watch a couple shows depicting Pakhtoons (Deedan/Akhri station)that actually angered me. I could easily tell that the scripts don’t come from the pen of someone who knows our culture at all. I won’t go into the details, but those were actually stereotyped. I basically started watching sang e mah for the sole purpose of seeing how again they will shred Pakhtoon culture to pieces with their own reimagining but surprisingly, I could tell, this script has been written by a Pakhtoon for sure. The writer has got it all right. Now I know many ‘urban-raised’ Pakhtoons would disagree but raw, tribal and rural Pakhtoons would know that the writer got it right. Taking in context that the story is dated a few decades back in a rural background, it’s right. If you have ever had an experience with rural, raw Pakhtoons, you would know that even women taking pride in ‘guns and blood spilling’ is not stereotypical at all because YES this happens more often than people realize. Women actually nudge men with taunts of ‘ghairat’ if they don’t do things per Pakhtoon customs. Yes Pakhtoons love to brag about their violent ways which they fondly like to associate with bravery. Ego is synonymous to being called Pukhto.
In last episode I noticed Hassan Choudry not believing Hikmat’s words towards his mother saying if it was someone else slapping him he would have… Well in rural Pakhtoon settings, there’s no doubt that elders are revered but the position of a ‘zalmey’ young/adolescent boy/man is unimaginable. Women of the household especially mothers encourage such behaviour of the new young man of the house. Mothers usually create an aura around their zalmi sons as angry young men that even they fear. (They are carefully brought up by mothers this way to encourage strength and bravery). Sons are an asset in Pakhtoon culture, the more the better… a family or a man is considered stronger by the virtue of having more sons. The ghairat depicted by zarghoona and gul meena is very revered if a woman does that.
I do not agree with anyone who says this series is stereotyping Pakhtoons. It’s showing the true side but in a very toned down manner. I don’t care if any urban-raised Pakhtoon kid disagrees with me here. You cannot whitewash truth. Is it good or bad, nobody’s gotta play judge as norms are a result of events and situations. But I think the show is doing great in depicting Pakhtoon culture and are not getting it wrong at all. Shows like deedan messed it up in ugliest possible way…

Decided to check out "Mere Humsafar" and what an annoying drama. Knowing that it trends everywhere shows how much our audience enjoys toxicity on screen.
Hala being the epitome of damsel of distress is so so annoying. Hania Amir has lost that charm, innocence, aura she use to have on screen. She is crying and just crying and just crying in every episode ever. How is her acting so pathetic here? Sometimes she doesn't even have tears in her eyes and just looks puffed up.
Even though Farhan saeed can romance a damn tree, the guy is nothing but a light in shining armor. Hala and him have chemistry based on him just wiping her tears and saying the most basic things to her.

Nothing to reflect of Dananeer as an actor .. but on the one hand we have the army that does no wrong and is overly glorified.. why was Saeeda Sidra selected in the first place? I think its unjust to have her character just for the sake of comic relief .. we have not seen a single strength of her character since the beginning.. they could have given this comic relief without making the poor girl look this stupid .. they are in fact still giving us some comic relief with the other girls but they all bring something to the army table .. what is Syeda Sidra Bringing? But I kinda find it relatable and credible especially owing to the fact that she has been this way since the death of her parents, wandering, interacting and trusting strangers because she has no choice. She has been this way. Her career in journalism also justifies this. She has a similar equation with her boss. And now Zarsangha. Moreover, I am really enjoying the level of storytelling. In Dhuwan you had a computer expert living and working with undercover boys team to fight for justice. There was Sara, and undercover agent, her journey of love, loss and revenge. Then we grew up, many years later and many many new channels later, we have women across the board crying, dismal and regressive. Why did our content become more n more regressive instead of becoming better??
Tanhaiyan, a young girl who loses her parents, house and money; builds a new business set up against all odds.
Faisla, Nadia jamil stands against an extremely tyrant patriarchal environment and wins a case not only for herself but her niece as well.
And almost all these are blockbusters. So something for the production houses to think about.

Last week you didn't talk about Mastaan and Harshali's scene and Sabz Ali's mother's scene.
This time also, you didn't discuss Hikmat & Zarghuna's conversation or Mastaan's scene with Harshali's father or why he didn't want Zarghuna to know that he is meeting Gulmina.
Even if Sheherezad is weird for proclaiming Haji's house as her's but the scene was really good, and Haji did regret planning her death to trap Hilmand.

So maybe after this decision he may have realized how stupid he was and then when he saw Rabia he decided to talk to her.
But what's more annoying is that his mother wasn't even shown counter arguing about his sudden decision of ending the rishta.

I m sorry to say this but u people too much criticized Rabiya for her wrong act but u did not criticize Mahajabeen , no matter what Rabiya did but Mahajabeen act can not be justify ,she should have done this before Engagement if she really wants to take revenge .About Sangemah i really feel Haji didn't kill Nasrullah it was Zarsangha who killed her own husband Nasrullah and Haji must have helped her as Nasrullah could be evil husband.

Bias would be a wrong choice of word.If it used as in " favouring Fawad ", Fawad does not seem to be benefiting from Aamna ji discussing about him in any way.
So the usage of the term does not hold if it is used that way.
If used as to mean " preference/liking ", I would say, it would be difficult to watch Fawad's work & not develop a liking for him or his work.
Maybe their criticism stems from the fact that Fawad is offered the best of projects while their favourites who work as hard & act good are not. Also that he continues to enjoy that despite not having worked for more than 5 years, which might be a fair complaint for a fan.
But what they have to understand is Fawad's past work & credibility have put him in that enviable position.
Fawad is still celebrated because of his stellar body of work (although limited),yet superior to many in his field.
Even as a musician, Irtiqa was a great album. That man has succeeded in music,in TV & in movies & he managed to create that impact when he worked in our film industry (India) too.
And all of this can't possibly be a fluke. That's just sheer talent & hard work. You might not like him, resent him even for being a bigger star than your favourite, but please don't be this blind as to discredit/disrespect his achievements.
Professional life aside, Fawad deserves the respect for his behaviour in his personal life as well.He refuses to parade his private life on social media, speaks to the media only when the need be, stays out of controversy & prefers to let his work speak for him ( which ideally is how every celebrity/person/people to look up to should behave), yet the majority don't.
So Aamnaji, I am guilty (not guilty) for liking Fawad too & so do many others. Some like him for his work, some for the person that he is, some for both.
Anyway, that man deserves the love & respect that he enjoys & will continue to enjoy.
And Hassan ji, about the " kucch hai Fawad mein ", that kuchh is what Aamna ji talked about him being the perfect fit for a star/actor/celebrity.He is one of the best in his craft & has the personality, charm & the charisma as well (rare for a celebrity/person to have it all).
Lastly,Aamna ji please do not pay much attention to what people have to say. You do not have to defend your likes/dislikes to anyone.Social media allows people to be insensitive/rude & gives them the power to voice their thoughts crudely because of the anonymity that it provides. Also, many are quite young & lack the maturity, hence the rude comments.
I enjoy your discussions. So keep them coming & please hurry up on the Dastaan haute gold.Have been waiting for it for ages haha.

I watched the first 2-3 episodes of badzaat and I agree that it does question the intelligence of the audience and so does Hindi serials but except for having a very basic storyline there isn't much flaws in MH. It has good acting, good chemistry, decent direction. Also the FL has been subjected to emotional and physical abuse through out her life which affected her confidence. So it's not like she is a damsel in distress for the sake of it. She does speak when she feels like the other person is willing to listen to her or when she is pushed to the corner. It will be more unrealistic if she acted all strong and loud mouth after all those years of abuse.
Having a basic story is totally fine if the direction and acting is good. 90% of the rom-coms have a very basic storyline but it's the way it's shot and presented that makes it a hit or a miss. MH is a very basic love story which is shot well.

I’m enjoying Mere Humsafar for the romantic arc. However it will hardly be a fairytale when Hamza like most Pakistani drama “heroes” rejects her when his mom maligns her character. If you’ve seen any teasers, that’s going to happen and our damsel-rescuing hero will swiftly turn away from his beloved wife. I also can’t stand that his mom says these horrible, horrible things about or to Haala when he is around but he is so casual about it. Haala has also expressed through words and actions how afraid she is of Taaeejaan yet he seems so oblivious to how she was/is treated. They didn’t stop making clothes for her while he was in Australia. I’m quite certain she grew up wearing hand me downs and deprived of good food and schools. Farhan Saeed looks and sounds like the quintessential romantic hero now, but the story has gaps and inconsistencies.
