Could you make french Canadian metal vs french France metal? And must use french songs. Here are my favorite french Canadian bands:
      Anonymus
      B. A. R. F.
      Marionet X
      Matante Mutante
      Urban Alien
      Les Écorchés
And ill let you decide the french bands of France
Also if you just want to review or react to the music videos of these bands it would be nice too.
Anonymus is like a french version of Metalica with a decent drummer. But the others pretty much have their own style, not inspired by anyone, this is what sold me into listening to them.
Mononc' Serge also does great french Canadian metal but he doesn't only do metal so i separated him from the list.

Sortilege had a 5 tracks EP with their most famous song (at least in France) : Sortilege ! Other bands singing in french are Warning, Killers, ADX, Vulcain, High Power and (my favorite) H-Bomb. Don't forget Trust, they sold lots of records. Many bands in fact. In an interview Sortilege said they didn't want to play smaller gigs, they were not interested. If you're a hard rock band and don't want to play everywhere, no way to make it ... Blaspheme were good ... I'll go for Blaspheme ;)

Sortilege are one of the ultimate hidden gem Metal bands. Their self titled EP and both of their albums are all fantastic, Zouille and Stephané DuMont are both rare talents and complemented each other extremely well. It's tragic that things didn't work out in the 80's and it's also disappointing that they aren't seeing eye to eye today.
As a side note, a lot of people outside of France, particularly in America, heard about Sortilege because Chuck Schuldiner of Death cited them as one of his favorite bands.

“Majesté” may not be Sortilège’s best song but it’s more complex and original in my opinion than Blasphème’s “Seul”. Gotta love the musicianship in that piece!

Fine to hear you about some French Metal bands of the 80's. For me, the first Sortilège EP released in 83 is even better. You could also listen to the first H-Bomb EP or the first 2 Warning's albums and the first 2 Vulcain's albums in a Motorheadish style. With Sortilège and Blasphème, this is my top five French Metal Bands of the 80's.

I am here for the guitars! The Blaspheme solo at 15:33 - 16:15 is wonderful. Sortilege guitar solo 6:06 - 7:16 could have been recorded by any great American guitar player, it is so precise, and, yes, has a bit of a classic rock or blues tone. Based primarily on the guitar comparison, Sortilege wins, in my opinion. Blaspheme sounds very close to Iron Maiden. And I am also not understanding a word of French, and nevertheless I love both singers' performance. Great battle!

Nice review of my 2 favorites french bands of the 80’s.
I’m surprised that no one quotes Malédiction in the comments. This band was active during the 2000’s, they only released 2 albums (Condamnés and Esclave du Vice) but for me it’s definitely the best metal band that sang in french (with a way better production than Sortilège and Blasphème could benefit at their time).
Just check those 2 albums, they’re terrific!
PS: Anamaria your french accent is perfect!

I like Blaspheme more ... it was very familiar rytm - please, listen to "Prowler" from Iron Maiden with Paul DiAnno and you'll see "...🎶 walking through the city... looking oh so pretty, I just have to find my way... al the ladies flashing🎵..." etc... (that part) ... and also lead singer look reminds of DiAnno 😊🤟
Anyway, good battle for the first tune was really catchy as well, with the amazing guitar solo!

There's a band who was prominent in the French metal scene called Nightmare who were active between 1979 and 1987, but reformed in 1999 and have changed their sound to power metal with influences of death and thrash metal in the mid 2000's with various lineup changes, and now today, they have a woman as the lead singer. I'm amazed no one mentioned Killers. These guys are probably one of the most consistent bands ever. I listened to all their stuff and have yet to find anything boring or weak about them. Solid French Metal mixed with Speed. ADX, Attentat Rock, Vulcain, Satan Jokers should be mentioned too. I'll have to go with Sortilège cos their 80's material is stronger. Although i really love Desir de Vampir. But i personally prefer later Blasphème to later Sortilège.

Sortilège for me !! It’s sentimental... My youth years. France was never a "Rock" country, so for the "Metal"... . In my class in the mid 80’s, out of 30 studens, we were 3 metal-heads. (And it was a lot)... Sotilège lyrics are not "political" at all, more kind of "Heroic fantasy" or, historical things... Blasphème is (was) great too. You can check on "H-bomb" , another great band of this "golden age".

It seems to me that 'Majesté' was a rather surprising choice for Sortilège, not their best song by far, even if it clearly shows what the band was (is) about. I also like Blasphème's song to be honest, especially the chorus, but I gotta go with Sortilège coz the musicianship is much much better and original, besides they have two amazing assets in the band : Stephane the lead guitarist, and Zouille's singing (which I reckon can be quite divisive, like R. Halford's : you either love it, or hate it- probably because of the high-pitched notes). But, yeah, at the end of the day, Sortilège sounds much more original and interesting to me. Thx for the vid, take care ! ;-)

@@MetalAcademix If you guys want to listen (and maybe use for your battles) French heavy metal's greatest masterpiece, you should definitely listen to Trust and to the B side of their fourth album, also known as 'the side of the Devil' (la face du Diable) since it tells the story of Faust (the man who sold his soul to the Devil) as told by Berlioz in 'La Damnation de Faust' . So, it's not, strictly speaking, a concept album, but only a 'concept side' with 4 songs : Purgatoire / Le pacte / La luxure / Jugement dernier. Needless to say, you have to listen to those songs in the right order, and, if possible, have a good grasp of the French language to follow the story. (A man overcome with anxiety, who considers himself too ordinary, too mundane, calls out for help, the D. shows up and grants him all his wishes in exchange for his soul. (Le Pacte). La luxure is more about his life of debauchery, and at the end, the Devil comes back to claim his due 'Jugement dernier'. It starts kindda slow, but gradually rises in intensity till the end, a true masterpiece ! This is the only youtube link I could find with the four songs, the complete B side, the audio quality is not that great but it should give you an idea of what it looks and sounds like.
