GROOOOVY BABY, YEAH! This movie was so much fun! Not the deepest or most emotional movie of all time but it doesn't have to be! Mike Myers is amazing as both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil and some of the lines in this thing must be iconic.
Thanks for watching! Have a great day! :)

@RolyPolyOllie Reactions -- The character "Austin Powers" was inspired by a real life Hollywood socialite of the 1960s, Austin Pendleton, and who portrayed the very type-cast role of "Mr. Larabee" in that best-of-genre flick "What's Up Doc?", starring Ryan O'Neil of "Love Story" and "Paper Moon" fame, a hard to find you-don't-need-to-be-a-fan-to-like-it performance by Barbra Streisand, and a totally over-the-top chews-up-the-scenery performance by Madeline Kahn whom you remember from "Mrs. White" in "Clue".
In fact, I'm really hoping to seduce you into the masterpiece Ryan O'Neil trifecta of "Love Story", "What's Up Doc?" and "Paper Moon". None are "clickbait" titles, but your viewers who DO watch will not regret them in the least. Nor will you. I'm certain.

Following on from your Bond marathon is the perfect time to watch this! And I love that you picked up on how clever it is. Mike Myers wrote it as a love letter to the movies he grew up watching with his Dad - classic Bond but also more serious spy movies like The Ipcress File and more spoofy ones like Our Man Flint or the 1967 Casino Royale. All those references are a great genius bonus if you know them, but if you don't it still works perfectly. We can enjoy it on a clever and dumb level at the same time.

“I love the guy on the left”
the bald guy “on the left” at space control is in real life the younger brother of
    actor/director Ron Howard
this scene was an homage to a similar scene he played in the movie Apollo 13, directed by his brother Ron
Ron’s little brother pops up in tiny roles like this throughout his life, mostly in his big brother Ron’s gigs throughout Ron’s career, as a childstar actor in the classic 60s show “Andy griffith show”, as a teenstar actor in the 70s smash tvseries “happy days”, and then as a big shot director now for decades

Everyone in the audience went crazy wild. The second one was ok. But the last one with Beyonce was cheesy goodness. It cracked me up so much that I almost spit out to the guy in front of me. And not to spoil it but the cameos were out totally unexpected.

    @markjone671 Před 2 lety +4

There are so many other movie and pop culture references in this movie other than just the Bond references, which you probably wouldn't have picked up on.
The musical ringtone for example is actually the exact ringtone for the presidential phone in the popular, (probably one of THE most popular James Bond spoofs) Our Man Flint from 1966. And the Mrs Kensington character, Austin's partner at the beginning of the film is a nod to the Emma Peel character from the long running British spy series from the 1960's The Avengers which had a male and female spy dynamic duo. You've seen the 1966 Batman. Think that but with secret agents. Emma Peel was played by Diana Rigg who went on to portray Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
There are other things like the Femme-bots, which turned up in another spy spoof from the 60's, Some Girls Do and even The Bionic Woman TV show in the 1970's. The whole look and style of the film, particularly the fashions is also very reflective of the James Bond spoof Casino Royale from 1967. Burt Bacharach who has a cameo in Austin powers was responsible for the music score in Casino Royale 1967.

"Scott, I want you to meet Daddy's nemesis, Austin Powers."
"What, are you feeding him? Why don't you just kill him?"
"No, Scott. I have an even better idea. I'm going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death."
"Why don't you just shoot him now? I mean, I'll go get a gun. We'll shoot him together. It'll be fun. Bang! Dead. Done."
Fun Fact: Mike Myers originally wanted Jim Carrey to play Dr. Evil, but Carrey eventually passed due to scheduling conflicts with Liar Liar (1997). Myers then took the iconic role himself.
Happenstance, Coincidence, Enemy Action Fact: Dr. Evil's appearance (bald head, gray suit, scar over his eye, cat on his lap) is based on James Bond's archnemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld portrayed by Donald Pleasence in You Only Live Twice (1967). Ironically, Pleasance was the star of the Halloween franchise where his archnemesis was named Michael Myers.
Real Life Supervillian Fact: Joe Son, the actor who played Random Task, is serving a lifetime prison sentence for the torture of a 19-year-old woman in 1990. He went uncaptured until 2008 when a DNA match linked him to the crime. According to the victim, she unknowingly had a copy of this movie in her home until her attacker's identity was revealed. In 2017, he was sentenced to an additional 27 years for murdering his cellmate.

Part of Mike Myers's reasoning for choosing this song was an homage to a popular Canadian game show he'd watch during his childhood called Definition (hosted by Jim Perry, had a nice 15-year run from 1974-1989). Soul Bossa Nova was the theme song for the game show Definition.

great movie for what it is. best one of the franchise. sadly the US version had a funny scene cut out. the henchman who was killed with the steamroller had a family who was shown getting a call informing them of his death. his drinking buddies then got a call of his death too. i'm sure it's on youtube if you ever want to see it

That scene was actually in the international release? It’s a deleted scene that came with the DVD, but I had no idea it was ever actually released in the movie somewhere.

@@trekkiejunk the more you know. here in Australia and probably the UK, that scene is in the actual movie. idk if you've seen the first Ace Ventura film but there's a scene where Jim Carry pretends to be a German dolphin trainer which is in the dvd release of the film but not the blu-ray version.

The whole movie is scripted. Perhaps it’s because I come from a background in comedy, but I’m always fascinated by people that wonder if a lot of the comedy in comedy films was improvised. Almost never is that the case. In fact, when they do improvise, it’s almost always discussed with the director on set, and then added, often with multiple takes. Truly improvised lines that make it to a final cut is exceedingly rare.

It’s interesting also when people watch the Marx Brothers films and think that Groucho ad-libbed all his lines when he very, very rarely did that.

Never quite liked Mike Myers ( not surprised nobody watched his Netflix show ) .
This first Austin Powers was good though ,

You should look up the word "script".
