RETHINKING OUR LIVES...| Moved from Canada 🇨🇦 to the Philippines 🇵🇭| Simple Extraordinary life Ep 41

  • There was a time in our lives when we let work take precedence over everything else… to the point that we were sacrificing our health, our time with family, and our relationships---things that , once lost or missed, will never gain back or have difficulty regaining.
Back in Canada, we had a house and great jobs….but there was something off…we were running on a constant state of stress, feeling helpless, being on edge… We were trapped in the system….we forgot who we are and didn’t get a chance to know ourselves more…..THIS IS WHERE THIS JOURNEY STARTED
A few years ago, we started to reconsider our lives, not just from the perspective of today- in this moment, but from our entire lifespan. We started to consider how we want to spend those precious hours…..
We were doing the same things over and over again….performing the same routines without even thinking about what we’re doing. We were in the subconscious grind of the “awake-asleep” state and we didn’t realize it at the time, but we ended up missing things that keep life interesting and exciting. Since the pandemic hit, we had to act fast.
We are so grateful to be able to do what we are doing now and to be able to rethink the way we look at our lives.

Hi Cora, I totally agree with you. When I was in high school I wanted to migrate to other country. Now I spend more than half of my life in Canada doing the same thing over and over, wake up at 5:00 am go to full time job until:6:30 pm then go to my second job, go home at 10:30. and repeat that 7 days a week. now I realize how happy i was when my life was simple. I want to leave in the province when i return home. I grew up in the city, i am not looking forward to leave in the city.

So far wala akong regrets. Hindi matutumbasan ung malaking income sa abroad compared on what we are right now. Mas masarap talaga ang buhay na walang stress :)

We did exactly that! Just March of 2021, my American husband proposed the idea of moving to the Cebu, Philippines. We worked all details out even to the shipment of our personal items, sold our house, cars, and prep documents for shipping our 3 dogs. We got here Aug 2021 and have finally settled. We bought a house, we are now mortgage free! We are living a simple life but simple doesn’t mean less exciting. We have family over every weekend and that’s all that matters!
We are not in our retirement age yet, but the Lord has given us wisdom on how to manage our finances. We didn’t have high paying jobs, just average, but were faithful stewards of our finances. Our savings have allowed us to live simply but more meaningfully. We are happy and content, the best decision ever!!! Thanks for your video. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one with this crazy idea - as all my shocked family and friends told me when they learned of our plans. We have already achieve our American dream. It’s time for my retirement dream with family.

You left behind your retirement money that you have accumulated until you left the country. Is there a way to get all that or at least a portion of that when you reach retirement age of your choice? or you already set it up and you're having the money remitted already?
My point is, after giving up everything, I'm sure you've accumulated income and investments until you left Canada. Were you able to take all those with you to the Philippines if you're settling there for life? Thank you for you're answers and what you did was very brave.

Your video is beautiful and makes me want to go to Boracay right now! FIRE is not for everyone and not everyone can FIRE. The fact that you guys did and spend your time to what truly matters to you, is inspiring. Perhaps you can "interview" your Mom/parents in one vlog? Would be interesting to hear what they think of your decisions, in their own words. Keep on inspiring us!
