How to become a successful breaker:
1. Scream obnoxiously over a $100 hit when the breakee spent $1000 buying in
2. Only hype product never say the truth
3. Never buy into breaks yourself as a breaker or buy any of the rookies you say are good investments to sell the break
4. Be around pre covid
I don't do breaks at all and I have been collecting a long time and I don't trust anyone that breaks period!
Future show idea:
You should consider doing a show on how to properly set up a LLC for your card brand and collections.
I’ve seen soooo many people walking around with their own logos and brands now.
I bet a lot of folks would love to know the processes of tracking expenses, accounting, taxes ect.
Give the basic framework of processes like real estate podcasts do.
That education is right up your wheelhouse. Help these kids legitimize their game.
Geoff's microphone volume is so much higher than Blez who is already soft spoken. Wish they would have done a sound check before recording to balance out the volumes.
The biggest BS, he obviously got loaded boxes, its not about luck when you are handed product hits
People can say what they want about Jared and Blez as a whole but you have to give him credit for what he has built. He has been in the hobby for a very long time. I don’t know him personally but you can tell he truly loves it. Promotes it non stop. He’s not just a breaker or a collector that started during the 2020 boom. He has a store. He’s had an extremely successful breaking business for a long time etc. employs his family and plenty of others…might not like him going shirtless etc lol but you have to tip your cap to him.
Also nice to see someone that started out in New York explode in the hobby. New York has many things but really nice card shops or outlets to get cards isn’t one of them. It’s very limited.
Ken goldins been in the hobby a long time too. Doesnt change the fact that they're both sleazy conmen who are or have been active participants in destroying this hobby. But if you wanna be a fluffer, you go right ahead.
Breakers are breaking prices for collectors. I’ll give him credit for that.
Tons of credit. They are still some of the corniest crusty breakers in the game.

Great interview. I know you started out in NY. You ever come back? Assuming you were a customer of Izzy’s back then. He’s still around. He’s one of the best ppl in the hobby.
I struggle to understand why anyone follows or listens to the Blez brothers. I suffered through 15 minutes and had to cut it off. If these dudes are part of growing the hobby we are screwed.

The Marketing is giving false dreams. The odds of hitting these big cards is along the lines of hitting the lotto. More predatory than casinos and without the free perks. Great to watch big pulls but I feel bad for those who put their whole paychecks into it. Let the whales waste their money.
Wow. There are no false dreams. I’ve been in sports cards over 50 years and have hit Monsters. There is a way to do this you just need moderation and be Sharp. It just takes 1. If you are putting your whole paycheck that self accountability, just like everything. I’ll be glad to discuss with you about why this is so popular. The industry is still moving. It’s slowed and it’s cyclical. I will die loving cards.

Love Blez. Everyone has their opinions. I’m majority a collector and go after certain teams. Paying $89 for 8 cases of my favorite team VS paying $600 for one box makes sense

I like Blez but to say no modern baseball cards were 6 figures is false. Trout superfractor is one of the most expensive cards ever sold at nearly $4m and that was before the fanatics take over.

“Michael Rubin has changed the whole game of Sports Cards.” BS Fanatics has literally owned Topps for 2 years. Fanatics came in AFTER the COVID card boom in 2022 and still doesn’t have licenses for NBA and NFL.
I'm sorry breaking is not part of the hobby it is Strickley a business ! I sit and watch people break card here on HQ live and the saddest thing I saw was a Father and Son break a box and the dad said directly to his son .."blow by the base"..basicaly tell his son its not about the cards its about the money cards ! I believe the hobby is a kid sitting in front of the TV watching his favorite team playing and ripping packs open and saying with every card ..got it got it got it need it got it need it and looking for his favorite player and getting excited over even a base card! those are the memories that keep the hobby going! not watching a computer screen after investing hundreds if not thousands into a break and remembering where and when i got lucky and hit a big card. Ask how many average COLLECTORS buy into breaks ,not many !

All breakers are doing are making cards more pricey because of the high buy ins parallels & high price chases.... just go back to paying for the entire team. I hate this spurs is one price, all wemby parallels are another. Its just another way to squeeze some extra bucks out of people.

My question would be is how do you help breakers reputation. And how do they pushback on that narrative that breakers are the parasite that killed wax prices and put things out of reach of real people.
Breaking has its place and i respect the likes of blez. But they have a real reputation problem...
