She can still sing even if she lost half of her vocal range she'd still have more talent than any artist that came after her. Her only competition was Whitney and unlike her she writes and produces her music

Well, to start off, there's the most obvious reason: vocal nodules. But besides that, I think it had to do with how she overworked herself during this tour. It certainly didn't have that many dates, but considering the delicate nature of Mariah's voice and the levels that she pushed it to, I think this tour damaged her voice a lot. I mean, before, she never belted any live G5's, but during this tour, she belted G5's during every performance of Hero. She also hit a lot of F#5's in Anytime You Need a Friend, Vision of Love, and some other songs, and those are some pretty fucking high notes, too. And then because of songs like Emotions, she also whistled a lot for the first time in a while (she didn't whistle that often during the Music Box and Daydream eras), and she probably used her head voice more than ever with Fantasy. Nobody can know for sure, but that's how I see it. I mean, there could be other things, too, like maybe alcohol? I mean, we all know that she drinks a lot, but that became more prominent during like the Rainbow era.
That makes a lot of sense, I didn't know she drank so much, and that can be as damaging as hell lol but as I said she is the BEST for me in anyway, she has already showed her incredible talent 😉😘
Daydream I dont think it was because of the high notes that she hits in this era. Mariah sings higher during this time because of her vocal technique, she places her voice in a different way and that allows her belt higher and with not much effort, thats why her tone changes in this era too. Her voice here is higher and clearer than in 1990 when she came to the scene. I tell you this because i sing too, And I use the same technique. As a singer a can tell you that when you have emotional problems your voice doesnt work as usual. And drinking-smoking kills your voice. Mariah got divorced after daydream and she has said that she prayed to God to give her voice back and she would stop smoking. I think her problems and addictions ruined her voice. Not singing because her technique was flawless
Mariah didn't smoke after her debut. That was all done before. The main thing for her vocal decline after the first 6/7 years was a mixture of nodules and heavy alcohol from drinking post divorce.
