- Nancy was the capital of the Duchy of Lorraine until the mid-18th century. Nestling in the Côtes de Moselle, in a valley surrounded by hills, it is located a few kilometres from the confluence points of the Moselle and Meurthe rivers.
Nancy's architectural and historic heritage is exceptional, and can be divided into three main periods.
The old town, with its streets around the Basilica of St. Epvre and the Craffe Gate, dates back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. This is where you can find the Lorraine Museum, which has one of the finest sculpture collections in France, and the tombs of the Dukes of Lorraine.
The 18th century is well represented by three superb town squares that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Place Stanislas, named after the Polish king who took refuge in Nancy in the 17th century, with its magnificent fountains and railings by Jean Lamour, Place de la Carrière and Place d'Alliance. The 18th century is also when the main commercial roads were laid in the city centre.
Lastly, the 1900s and the famous Nancy School art movement find expression in all the Art Nouveau buildings. There are many of them to see, visit and admire, like the Brasserie Excelsior or the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

I lived in Rue Charle Keller and had worked on my Ph.D on Rue Giradet. Used to walk to school everyday passing on amlost all sites in this video. I love Nancy and I had been lived ther for 2 years.

Très belle vidéo. Toutefois la plus grosse partie de la vieille ville (médiévale et Renaissance) a été loupée et ne se cantonne ici qu'à la Grand Rue qui va du palais du gouvernement à la porte de la Craffe ou à la porte de la citadelle. En effet la Vieille ville est plus étendue et regorge de petits squares, de petites rues pittoresques avec des façades parfois colorées, d'hôtels particuliers comme les hôtels de Lillebonne, de la monnaie, Ferraris (,famille originaire du milanais au service des ducs avec un extraordinaire plafond au dessus d'un escalier à l'italienne et une jolie cour intérieure), des loups (résidence du grand louvetier des ducs), d'Haussonville (Hotel avec une superbe cour intérieure)... Mais je ne vous en veux pas, les lorrains et parfois même les nancéiens, pas très curieux de leur histoire et de leur ville ne sont parfois pas au courant de cette jolie et agréable petite ville vieille...ou alors ils ne connaissent que celle qui figure dans la vidéo 😊
J’habitais à cette ville il y a 2ans. Du coup cette vidéo me rappelle beaucoup de choses…🥲🥲
