Enjoyed it Orlando.... very interesting and informative. I think those 1974 Laughlin cards will definitely be getting some added attention and respect, moving forward.
I used to see those old tyme cards all over the place back in the day lol I just figured they were like every other oddball set from the era. I honestly didnt really care for the image on the fronts so they never caught my eye. Now I can appreciate them. Those old Cuban cards and Mexican league cards are like gold!
I've been waiting to listen to this episode! I'm looking forward to learning more and more about the Negro league players on sports cards and in general. Thanks for the information, Maestro...which I just learned was also the nickname of the GREATEST 🇨🇺 CUBAN Ballplayer ever, Martin Dihigo ❤
Great video. If there was a Gibson plating days card it might be the most valuable in the hobby. That Billikin Charleston is amazing! Didn’t know that a playing days Charleston existed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. For Paige I think both the ‘49 Leaf and ‘49 Bowman are his rookies. Leaf is so expensive I will get the Bowman someday.
Thanks for your great comments. There is only one Josh Gibson playing days card. Literally one exhibit card from 1931, it’s autographed, probably the most expensive negro league card if ever sold
You have a nice book collection, Orlando. This one is a blast going through. So many great cards to discover out there. It’s going to be fun hunting these through the years. Thanks for going over them
Great video Orlando, that book is super nice. I was following along with your video and pulling the rookies you called out; I have 21 of the Laughlin rookies. The backs have great stats and stories of these players. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome book Orlando! Thanks for sharing. It was really cool back in the day, getting autographs from some of these greats like Leon Day and Buck O'Neil.
Thanks for showing, didn't know about that book. Some of those cards I've been following for the last 30 years and only have been able to get a few. The '10 Punch Cigarros Pop Lloyd and a '23-'24 Toms Guitierez, another Cuban set, of Oscar Charleston have come up to auction in the last year and each went for over $100,000. Now that Charleston is on the all time OPS and a few other top 10 lists, hopefully more people will learn about what a great player he was. But unfortunately that means his cards will even be more out of reach.
Thanks for sharing, love the information. After seeing the Laughlin Gibson go for almost $3,500 on ebay last night, I am wishing I would have bought the complete set when it sold on REA last month. Hopefully the cards come back down in price. I have been trying to find cards from that set at a decent price for the past year, and haven't had any luck so far.
Would love to have a playing day Negro league card. I have many autographs as I traded with a dealer who use to attend their reunions. I have many beautiful autographed items including a Buck Leanard bat with 164 autographs, a Kansas City Monarch ball 47 autos, Homestead Grays with 53 former player autographs and other framed items. Their autographs are so nice. Obviously do not have a Josh Gibson but his son Josh Gibson Jr. is on most of the items. Great rookie card book.
As a long time Negro League collector . Those older winter league cards are my dream cards.. I have a few Caramelo Deportivos and Toleteros but love to get more of the more prominent players. BTW. Toleteros are not Mexican. They are from Puerto Rico
I don’t consider post career cards as rookies if there are playing days cards. In the case of Negro League players, there are no playing days cards. In this case their first card is considered their rookie.

Thanks for watching!
Love this, Orlando. I have most of the 1978 Laughlin set from my childhood - but a lot of these cards I have never seen before. Great stuff!!!
Very cool!

Definitely a great book
Awesome Orlando! Does Victor (the Rookie Card Specialist) give his blessing to this book? LOL just kidding. Thanks again....great stuff!!!!
I think so! He’ll probably watch this video

Best of luck! They just got too expensive now

You have some great stuff.
Gibson is the goat! I love his 74 laughlin and 76 shakeys
Definitely awesome cards. I picked up the Mendez Laughlin.
@@ACollectorsDream I need one more player to complete a raw set

Do you consider post career cards to be rookie cards?
I don’t consider post career cards as rookies if there are playing days cards. In the case of Negro League players, there are no playing days cards. In this case their first card is considered their rookie.
Now that they are introducing their stats and breaking records that guys like Ty Cobb had, hopefully, his card value goes down so I can afford one. 😂
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts, thank you
