The Free Market Foundation had an excellent speaker a few months ago that spelled out exactly what was wrong with the NHI bill. In short, it is an absolute joke.
    1. The governing structure suggested for NHI would be not just prone to corruption, it would actively facilitate it.
    2. The NHI bill does not specify how any citizen would benefit from it. It only seeks to bring everything regarding "healthcare" under one umbrella, controlled exclusively by one deployed cadre.
    3. The suggested budget structure for the NHI is about 5 times the size of Eskom. It will make our energy crisis seem like a Sunday stroll in comparison.

SA citizen residing in Taiwan... NHI works for everyone here cause EVERYONE contributes. Monthly pmt to NHI is a small amount. Everything is covered (with a very small additional pmt per visit to clinic/hospital/etc.). Going to a dentist to clean teeth or put in a filling is about R75. Doing blood tests, MRI scans, X-rays, etc. would be about R120 (total, assuming all 3 were done during same visit). The only thing NOT covered is cosmetic type treatments. Even if you go out of Taiwan, you are covered abroad (you just need to keep the receipts then claim back upon return). NHI can ONLY work IF ALL CONTRIBUTED. But you cannot copy such a system in SA based on simple math, i.e. taking into account massive numbers of people UNABLE to contribute.

It was a white dude that had an idea to centralised information of all data recording of patient to be centralised as one. Meaning that if you are in jhb for a gp appointment. Next week you in cpt. The gp in cpt.can take the.file.of.your records from gp to fully have a record of you and diagnosis. They were using the same fund not more or less but prioritize it via budgets to spread it across everything.
When there is a patient in need of funding. The nh1 fund becomes available to you.
This nh1 is far from over and it definitely going to court to be challenged before it becomes law.

I know of a former BARA intern who wrote an article about the state of the Hospital and the fact that no PPE was inadequately provided during the peak of the COVID pandemic. She was not so politley offered the ultimatum of keeping her article up or keeping her job by the national department of health. Still think theres freedom of speech in this country under ANC oppression?

Giving the ANC power of people's health care would be dubious at best. If they can't even keep the lights on, I don't think they have proven themselves capable. This is not simply a question of more money for the government. Singapore runs a universal health care system but runs it efficiently. The ANC can't run anything efficiently as long as they are in control. it's not a question of government vs. private. It's about do you want to be on the operating table with these people in charge of your health care outcomes?? I wouldn't.

Only Question you need to ask the people trying to implement the NHI is when last did you use the public healthcare services. The answer will be Never. And it will be backed up by something like but if we get the NHI going we will make the public health care the same as public health care. its like a naughty child who broke his new given working toy on the play ground and now his bullying the child who played nice and looked after his toy kept it clean and kept the part work for his/her toy! Their are humans in this world that can make things work from figuring out and adopting to change,

There will be no middle class left.. they paying for every repair of a failed state.. there must be a slow roll out of NHI with strict governance where the costs of public care sector out peforms that of private sector ,it will spell the death of private care sector .thereby achieving what the NHI is all about , better care for all not only inbthe hands of the rich

Saw the guy behind nh1 in sa. It a white dude. He had a talk about how this will work.
There are a few things that i agree with him about nh1 where everything of you health becomes centralised to all healthcare facility. They used the same fund as current budget with priority on budget. Etc.
Alot of unanswered questions on the thought process especially corruption and employing people who are interested in money rather than helping to address the issue of medical care. I agree with the ceo of discovery that it need a multi funding rather than a single funding bill.
In final conclusion. The uk has nh1 as well and it is so corrupted that it doesnt work. If it doesnt work there. How would it work here. There is a few good points made by nh1 especially in database management but corruption is huge in sa and we dont want to fall into the same trap as other soe operations.

But the word "decimate" is quite inadequate. Decimate means to reduce by one tenth. This proposed NHI will not only decimate, but will DEVASTATE!

The govt is not worried they will run overseas for medical treatment as they know medical services will be 3rd rate. Two weeks before implementation of NHI I will cancle my medical which is not near the top ones but its what I can afford at the moment.
