A well deserved Oscar win for Jerry Goldsmith.
After being commissioned to make the music ,the composer looking for inspiration in old satanic book sent by the director saw a drawing of an inverted cross. He took this idea musically turning religious Georgian chant and Ave Maria, into an inverted mass, a black mass. The Choir master in London was an expert in Latin and helped the composer translate it Phrases such as the body of Christ became the Body of Satan, while keeping words such as we eat the flesh and drink the blood now inverted into something horrifying. Some of the Latin phases are wrong and Legend has it that this was done deliberately . This music is so chilling as it inverts some of the most well known Religious music and prayers, so it seems familiar but twisted. In eastern Europe some radical groups have tried to rerecord it with the correct Latin, to be used in ceremonies and even reported a failed attempt at a sacrifice of a run away girl in the early 80s. P. After wining the Oscar the composer Goldsmith thanked the director for sending him over the old books that inspired him to make the music. The Director Richard Donner looked at him puzzled and said I never sent you any books!

This is so effective, it still makes me feel dread. I’m a huge horror fan and have been for 40 years. I’m desensitised to scares. But I swear The Omen is one of the few films that still frightens me after multiple viewings over many years. That’s very rare. Perhaps even unique.

@ttgg… a frightening experience in childhood often gives you recall of that dread. I watched The Omen when I was 9, it freaked me out and it’s embedded from primal memory. I’m probably not 100% desensitised, and wouldn’t want to be, but I don’t get scared by horror anymore - I wish I did!
@kirkwarburton2277 Fear is a survival instinct. Primal fear can only be lived, not experienced from a film.
When your life is on the line, the adrenaline keeps your body from being seized by FEAR and shutting down.. catatonic shock e.g

Personally, I have the 40th Anniversary edition of the original "Omen" soundtrack CD version and it was BETTER than the Deluxe Edition CD version from years before. Jerry Goldsmith was such a legend of motion picture music scores and may he continue to rest in peace.

@@sardonicwrath7752 I think Jerry Goldsmith was taking artistic liberties with the Latin.
Sanguis should be sanguinem. But, there's an extra syllable that interrupts the flow i.e. Sanguis and Corpus both have two syllables and both verses are five syllables. Jerry wanted to keep the chant synchronized, it seems.
And you're right, there is a rolled "r" in brolle but, if the chorus sang tolle correctly, somehow it wouldn't have the evil kick that a rolled "r" would have. BTW, "brolle" is growl in Latin. But, it still doesn't fit the verse.
