- Comedian and Comedy Club owner Tom Mullica performs some crazy tricks on this classic 1985 David Letterman show. He performed at over 3,000 sold-out shows during his eleven year run at the famed Tom-Foolery Magic Bar Theatre (1976-1987) in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Komedie
Dave: "good Lord"
Tom: "Iam just a magician"
There's a no smoking sign just before Tom entered. lol so ironic.
good catch lol
Tom Mullica was something else. I saw him on tv thirty-odd years ago and his act stayed in my mind ever since. Maybe all the best magicians should make you ask 'not how, but why?'
yes
me too. I saw this over 35 years ago and been looking for it again ever since lol
_“Thirty-odd”_ years ago? Really? In print? Who are you performing for?
I love how he uses the ciggerate to give a cartoonish smile.
Do you burn yourself doing that?
"Mm hmm."
lmao xD
@Fernando Mojica 3:02
David is clearly a little threatened by this guy
and anyone with natural talent
You did great here, WillHerndon.
Great magician, funny as hell and actor too.
Tom Mullica the one and only
Rest in peace Tom!
You can look it up; he died of complications after a hernia operation.
@@vinny142 Don't believe everything you read. Especially on the Internet. By his own admission, he had leukemia. Whether or not it killed him, I have no idea. But it certainly didn't help.
Anybody else hear a really soft version of Tom's scream ow! at 2:15?
yes i just heard, i found it weird ^^
Glad i'm not the one one to have heard it haha
I guess most people with headphones will hear it. It's so faint, distant.
Back when I was working with Joe Stevens I got to meet the great Tom Mullica who was one of the funniest magicians that I ever knew. I got to see him perform at the Tom Foolery in Buckhead in Atlanta Georgia. I even parked my truck right across the street from his place. I couldn't believe I could get so lucky. He was a great friend after that and went on to perform in Las Vegas. I have had some very lucky moments in my life and meeting Tom Mullica was one of them.
I gave up smoking after watching this video. Worked better than any other thing i've tried.
Best combination of talent and comedic patter of all time. It was the patter that made him the greatest.
Pretty sure the only reason you commented was so you could use the word “patter.” See what I did there? I did it too!!
@@readthetype Pretty funny. Of course, "patter" is part of every magician's domain, but we so rarely get to use it in a sentence. Like the word "gargantuan". ;)
I just find out about the existence of a crazy talented genius and at the same time finding out he was dead :( . RIP Tom. Your act is the craziest and most talented i've ever seen.
It’s skill but I wouldn’t say eating cigarettes and smoking is talent
@@mr.mister1045 he doesn't eat them. Slight of hand my friend.
@@bigguy4873 oh no he eats them
@@misguidedangel6550 at the moment when he hands Dave the handkerchief and then suffs in the last napkin. If you watch at 25% normal speed you can see the wad of cigs coming out of his mouth and into the palm of his hand.
The hand is quicker than the eye my friend;)
Tom was one of the few that Dave had zero chance of getting the upper hand on. What a talent!
Tom, you were the best!
Funny how at 2:15 you can already hear him say OWW 🤣🤣🤣
Back in the day when you could actually enjoy Atlanta.
i think this guy was an actual genius
I love that Letterman loves Magic. He's always a robot until he has magicians and then he's like a little kid
He was born in '48, served in the army for a few years, performed tricks like the ones in the video for over 10 years and now he's still alive and performing magic while also being a CEO.
He must have passed away shortly after you wrote this comment. Are you still alive yourself?
@@custardclips7751 lol
@@johnjohnson9431 I guess we have our answer?😮
@@berimbolo2947 still waiting...
@@user-tc1pj9ei7o hello!
woman at date: do you happen to smoke?
tom: hardly...
From Wikipedia, if anybody's interested: "On February 15, 2016, Mullica was placed in an induced coma following complications stemming from a routine hernia operation, which caused him to have several strokes. He subsequently suffered from organ and liver failure. On February 18, it was decided to take Mullica off life support.[9] He was 67 years of age."
Thanks for sharing. Funny guy but a clear reminder to be careful what we eat.
Joe Rogan Experience with David Blaine brought me here & this was NUTTZZZZ!!
...... another legendary Letterman moment at 3:03
Heard him say one time, "Do you know why I eat the napkin? So I don't have to use toilet paper."
Absolute legend.
Magic is to wonder, not to question. Is like going to see starwars and start asking how was made during the movie
This act is on fire!
Owww!
Rip tom,the best magician ever.
God this guy was amazing
this video made me shit out half a pack of cigarettes while my wife cried behind the unlocked bathroom door, too afraid to come in
Huh?
Heard there is no secret technique behind the cigarette trick. Tom was clearly in too much pain and had to finish this as soon as possible and yet still maintained his act. Fucking LEGED!
No.
It’s a trick.
He doesn’t eat them.
@@larjkok1184 he very clearly swallows them at the end you see the motion in his throat even. somethings you just can't hide
@@wildcat6669make a pool of saliva, stuff them in the cheek and swallow the saliva
@@wildcat6669 no, you can see him taking them out when you observe carefully. Insanely fast tho.
Hey gang!!... Just so you guys & Gals know how great of a performer & magician Tom Mullica was, he is one of David Blain's Idols.
wow!!!!! incredible
Han er bare den perfekte mængde fjollet og på punkt med tricks, har kun lige fundet ham, og han er den bedste tryllekunstner imo :)
There never will be another act even close to this. Tom McCullough truly unique impressive individual. RIP
Mullica*
thanks for sharing
It’s CZcams.
RIP Tom, and all of his taste buds.
Imaginening this guy's mom walking in on him practising this as a kid xD
Dave was sort of acting like this guy is a fool but what he did was excellent magic and slight of hand.
Ah, the sweet good ol’ 80s !
Awesome
Rest In Peace Tom Mullica.
I love how Dave handles his attempts at humor.
Two masters of their craft. Dave of comedy, Tom of smoking.
there is a no smoking sign the moment he enters lol
At least he didn't have to worry about dinner.
David Hasselhoff the magician
That's god level
Great comedy!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭
David was an idiot for not realizing who he had there. Tom was an amazing magician. Sadly he's no longer with us. RIP Tom.
Who said he didn't realize it? He invited him, is that not a sign of appreciation?
how would he not know who he is? It's on national television.
This was Tom's only appearance. He was told not to be funny... why invite a comedian and tell them not to be funny? Because Dave was well known as a dick. 😎
but, it was....a good watch.
It......sure, was......a.....
good watch...........no doubt about.............
it.
This man is a Legend.
Who's here from Joe Rogan and David Blaine?
What I find interesting is that Tom's manner could make him 50+.
He is in fact a year *younger * than David by about a year.
dave king of late night
My lungs hurt
Always thought Tom would make a great late night show host.
That's what I wanted to write :)
Here from Joe Rogan podcast with David Blaine.
Rest in peaces
Actually, no he didn't. Tom Mullica is alive and well and continues to do his Red Skelton tribute show as well as delighting magicians and audiences everywhere.
Tom's voice sound like Dave!
my guy is like a 5 star hotel for throat cancer
Dave forgot to ask him if was a smoker !
This Guy have a sosie in heavy metal !!!!!!
I tried his trick and I almost choked to death with 3rd degree burn in my throat 😂😂😂
you practice with them unlit
this shit's awesome XD
this guy's still alive and is now perfectly well, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 but overcome it quite quickly and is now fine and still working. Just goes to show, you can smoke shit loads and be fine into your later years or never smoke and die of cancer at the age of 20, some people are lucky, others aren't, smoking doesn't change that.
+matt Sure but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do the best we can. Besides, even if you could get away with all the health woes, who wants to stink like cigarettes and waste thousands of dollars a year?
+FortNikitaBullion People.
+matt spoke too soon my friend :(
+matt i want to believe you're trolling but in reality i'm afraid you're a privileged 17-20 year old with a not-so-bright future ahead of them.
"Do you burn yourself doing that"
"Hmm hmm"
LMAO!
He's still alive.
Mason👌
If Jon Arbuckle (from Garfield comics) were a real person.
I wonder if he's still lives in Atlanta. I'm curious because I'm from Georgia.
This almost makes me gag just watching
-Do you burn yourself doing that?
-Mhm!
2:15 pre-echo heard if you turn it up. :s
The trick happens at 5:00 when he asks «you want one?», people start laughing, they get distracted (and disgusted about the whole thing), and then, he does that quick move where he shoves another napkin in his mouth while with the same hand, he gets all the ciggs out and put them down. It's incredibly fast
he actually eats the napkins tho
I've seen people write this exact comment. I watch it over and over and can never catch when he does it 😭😭😭😭
Pete.404 ya bro some people got n third eye, even me couldn't figure it out
I think I can see what you're talking about, but it's really incredibly fast. I don't think anyone else could do that !
Exactly at 5:03 right when he starts rapidly putting napkin in his mouth is when he drops all cigarettes and napkins in his right hand. Very clean almost impossible to see :)
at 2:16 you can hear the ow! in the distance before he says it
dose anyone know when this was recorded and aired
Hahahaba :D
*Hi*
*MOM*
Best act I ever witnessed and Letterman has little appreciation for it from the beginning but finally realized just how rude he was actually being by the end of it.
he is still alive and no longer smokes
GENTLEMEN
misdirection when he offers David a napkin and then tom appears to shove more napkins in his mouth when really hes taking the smokes and napkins out. you can notice his mouth is more empty than it was 2 seconds before hand.
No shit.
He’s a magician, he’s not eating them.
i get the idea but i played that part several times and none of those times did i catch that
He did not and is still very much alive He hasn't done this act for several years.
pffft....i can do that too...hold my beer
he's still have, age 65
no, he's alive
I smoke and this is still wicked disgusting. Lol. He's good at what he does
really wonder how he did that!
"Do you want one?" Kills me every time.
Actually, yes he did.
Still do not believe it is possible..
Tom Mullica, basically got on Letterman's show, just to smoke and eat cigarettes...
He's in the hospital right now :( he had a multiple heart attacks due to blood clots... they don't think he'll make it.
He passed away today. :(
Melissa Kramer :(
+seth Jim Yeah, I heard he just died.
+seth Jim I'm a day late and a dollar short. :( I just learned about Mr Mullica today, one day after his passing. At least we are truly lucky to be able to enjoy his amazing performances here online forever. In the digital age where everything is done with editing and computers the real talent of someone doing actual illusions live is something that is fading away. I hope he had a full and wonderful life. My thoughts are with his family and friends. The world lost a little bit of magic yesterday.
+Melissa Kramer :'(
Lmao 2:13 🤣
Aarrh befor the vining peepol got born
That's what all smokers look like to me :p
lmfao do you mind if i inhale?
