    We did the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes trek in Nepal in April 2023 in partnership with Kathmandu-based trekking agency Himalayan Masters. We trekked with guide, Govinda Rai, and porter, Prakas Tamang. It was part of a longer trek through the Khumbu region on the Everest Three Passes trail.
    This is Part Three of a four-part series covering the trekking route from Lukla to Dingboche (Part One: • Everest Base Camp Trek... ), the alternative route from Dingboche to EBC crossing Kongma La (Part Two: • Trekking to Everest Ba... ), and the final part from Gokyo to Lukla crossing Renjo La ( • Trekking Gokyo to Lukl... ).
    Cho La is the lowest of the Three Passes at 5368 m and it connects Everest Base Camp with the stunning Gokyo Lakes. We highly recommend following this route on your return from BC in order to see more of the region, retrace as little as possible during your trek, and experience one of the true scenic highlights of the Khumbu.

    Welcome to Part Three of our Everest Trekking extended cuts series! The film follows our route from Everest Base Camp to Gokyo Lakes, crossing the 5368 m high pass of Cho La and the Ngozumpa Glacier (which was completely covered in fresh snow during our trek in April!). Including a visit to Gokyo Lakes is HIGHLY recommended for anyone making the journey to EBC. It adds on just an extra few days, and allows you to see one of the absolute highlights of the Khumbu region.
    Check out our detailed itinerary for following this route in our free EBC guide on our blog - www.goingthewholehogg.com/everest-base-camp-trek-guide/ - and you'll find detailed trail notes and a route map here - www.goingthewholehogg.com/everest-three-passes-trekking-route-guide/.
    We trekked with Himalayan Masters and highly recommend them. You can get a 5% discount off your trek with HM by mentioning us with the code HOGG5 (bit.ly/EBCTrekHimalayanMasters)! Hope you enjoy the film and thank you for watching and supporting our channel 😃🥾🏔 Kim & Del

    Everything there looks so dramatically beautiful. I've watched many movies with Himalayan sceneries and this shows the realistic beauty of this place.

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 6 měsíci

      It's definitely dramatic, especially in the Khumbu region where the mountains are just so big and all around you. This is a trek for the scenery lovers, for sure!!

    Absolutely great trek! Its on my list for this year.
    I wonder with Gokyo lake where did you sleep? Are those houses open and are they offering beds? I assume your trek was April 2023?

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 6 měsíci

      It is indeed, sounds like a good plan! You’re correct, this was April 2023, and regarding Gokyo most of the buildings you see (certainly the big ones) are guesthouses… plenty of choice with something to suit all budgets.

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 6 měsíci

      Fantastic, you'll love it we're sure! Yeah, there are lots of guesthouses at Gokyo where you can sleep, just like at the other villages/settlements along the trek. Yeah, it was April 2023. We have more info about the route and guesthouses etc., in our free guides over on our blog - www.goingthewholehogg.com/destinations/south-asia/nepal/ Have a great trek when the time comes! Kim

    So I'm curious. Your last 4 releases are using the same footage yes? Are you doing this to A/B test for AVD and retention? You also A/B testing titles and thumbs? I'm a CZcamsr too, just trying to figure out your rationale. What lens(es) did you bring for this trip? .... I'm planning a 16-35mm and a 70-300mm. Thanks

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey Matt, so we trekked the Three Passes route and wanted to first make one complete and standalone Three Passes video. Obviously we didn’t want to make it too long and we still had a lot of good footage that we wanted to use, so we decided to also make a series of shorter videos using some of the same footage but also the extra footage too. Between these shorter videos there’s a bit of duplication where we’ve used the same clips at the start and end, otherwise they use different footage to each other. And as you recognise, doing multiple videos like this has given us the opportunity to try different titles and thumbnails… will be interesting to analyse it after a while.
      In terms of lenses, we had a 24-70mm and 70-200mm. I find that 24mm is generally wide enough and I use the range between 35-70mm a lot, also for photography. Going to 300mm would be good though. It really depends what works for you.

    Hi, Nice Video.
    we are going for EBC + Gokyo in Apr. Have a question on Forex.
    How you guys manage NPR currency. you took from India or got them exchanged at Nepal only.
    Is there any limit to carry INR to Nepal.

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, thank you. We only carried enough cash for our visa and used our card to withdraw cash from ATMs in Kathmandu. Not sure what your situation is, but from a quick Google search it appears that the INR limit to Nepal is INR 25,000.

    Amazing filmmaking and immaculate editing! We are planning to do the Gokyo Lakes trek sometime around March this year. Just wondering if we could expect snowfall like you did? Do we need to be prepared with crampons and gaiters or are hiking boots enough?

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you! Glad to hear you'll be trekking here too. Yes, I would say there is every chance you might experience snowfall at the higher altitudes on this trek. I would definitely take microspikes. Gaiters are helpful if the snow is quite deep and could get into the top of your hiking boots, but also I've found that gaiters do a great job of providing some extra warmth and wind protection. Again, I would pack gaiters just in case. Hope this helps! Kim

      In your video, it looks like it was quite cold. What were the temperatures like when you visited Gokyo village and Gokyo ri ? Other than thermals, fleece and down jackets, is there anything else we might need to stay warm?

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  Před 5 měsíci

      Temperatures were well below zero, especially at night, although during the day and in the sun it could be much warmer. The things you mention will keep you warm, that and staying by the fire in the evenings, drinking hot drinks, and throwing the heavy blanket provided over your sleeping bag 🙂
