We left behind our careers in Dallas Texas for life off the grid in the woods of Vermont. Here, we experience new rewards and challenges, living in a travel trailer while setting up water, power, and a yurt on the side of a mountain. Charles plans and executes our DIY projects. Awesome video today! I plan to get the window gutters, so I appreciated your explanation of their benefit. I also liked the visual of the kitchen sink functionality. I was surprised that you preferred the induction over the propane stove.
How is the living space in the 25rb? Is there ample walking space around the queen bed? Do you think the dinette could be better used as a living-room?
Update on gutters: they have worked great. Except right underneath the running lights on the rear window, as the water drips off the lights over the gutter and onto the window. But even the rear window is still MUCH more clear than it was before gutters.
We do generally use the induction for stovetop cooking when we have extra battery power to burn... but the propane oven works fine and it's not as difficult to light the pilot as I was led to believe by other BF owners (although I think they did have a different stove model).
Walking around the bed is a bit of a tight squeeze (but still better than being up against walls, when it comes to making the bed). However, Charles has tended to use the walk around space for overflow storage, which makes him even more likely to just crawl over instead.
We would NEVER opt for a living room instead of a dinette because the dinette serves as workspace (including room for my desktop computer) and could even serve as extra counter space in a pinch. We also actually use the dinette for eating (which is funny because we used to eat on the couch in our house). We just turn my work computer sideways during dinner and watch CZcams on that screen for entertainment. However, we know some people who opted for recliners instead of the dinette. Thanks, I'm afraid so! Especially for Charles who has the sequence of events memorized in detail. Yurt kit arrives in early July, but we may or may not be ready to unpack it right away.
What product did you use for the rain gutters on the windows? That looks like a great idea and did you apply it to every window?
We used Trim-Lok Drip Rail. Found on Amazon in either 25 or 50' lengths. We applied it to all but two windows, but only because the 25' we bought would not finish the last two. Would like to find a way to buy it by the foot, as we only need about 6' more for the last windows. We are happy with the results so far. Still get a few drips here and there, but have noticed no more major streaking of the windows.

Bugs! Some mosquitoes, and smaller ones that I think are black flies. I have not been wearing a hood, but I did get a bug in my eye once that I later discovered was still there at the end of the day. Yuck.
The bug density depends quite a bit on the weather of the day. They are worse when it is warm and humid. We have learned to love the breezy days.
Are the solar panels still on your Bigfoot ? 1:03 looks like they are not on anymore
Hi, the panels were installed in 2023 but this video is from 2022. (Inverter and batteries were set up before moving to VT, but we used the panels on the ground for a year.)
This is legal in vt.? Which county, no zoning issues.
Hi Michael, the permitting process is simple in many Vermont municipalities (for the building process - no permit required for boondocking on your own land). The one big legal issue statewide is that you are not allowed to camp on a property long term without a septic system. We had ours installed one year prior to moving up here.
@OvertheRiverandThroughtheWoods very nice, thank you. I assume you can have well, septic, and power on land the state knows you are living in a camper.
@@michaelsmallarz7183 The state doesn't care about the camper (although of course you could have local restrictions within villages and subdivided developments), but there is a permitting process for the septic and well.
(We won't have a well -- we're doing rainwater collection instead, and that is not specifically regulated except possibly as part of your local building permit process, which was not very micromanaging in our case).
