I've played trumpet with Phil Driscoll. It was like playing in a lightning storm. I used to have an E flat horn like the one he's blowing here. I could blow as many notes as he does. I seriously doubt that he meant any desacration by putting a mouthpiece in it. He was thinking like a trumpet player. That means he has several other instruments he plays and wants the rim to be the same. Yes it changes the sound and is non kosher but it is annointed. You PLAY a trumpet. You BLOW a shofar. Shalom!

The Bible speaks about us becoming a mouthpiece so the Bible writers knew what these were and were a good thing. It is clearly Biblical to put a mouthpiece on a shofar.

I play trumpet, but when I play shofar I NEVER us a trumpet mouthpiece. Using a trumpet mouthpiece changes everything, and it no longer sounds like a shofar.

Each horn has a different pitch because of it’s length. Like changing the note with a Trombone slide. There are a lot of notes that can be played. Like the notes played on a bugle. This one happens to be in Eb. (E flat). So they are playing chord progressions in that key. Once you play an instrument like trumpet you need to keep your mouth piece constant. The carved mouthpiece is more like a French horn and really small. They sound the same without a metal mouthpiece if you are a horn player, if it’s a polished horn like his. He has more range because he’s good at what he does. There will always be the people who don’t like it and critique it. That’s why there is a play and stop button. I think it’s amazing. Praise The Lord.

To fulfil the mitzvot of hearing the shofar the shofar must be kosher, the mouthpiece must part of the horn, not added and the blower's lips must contact the horn. To add a mouthpiece changes all this and distorts the the tone. It is not about putting or not putting a mouthpiece, it is about FAITH and believing that it is the VOICE OFTHE LIVING GOD (REV 4:1). Years ago when I was introduced to the shofar, it was the LORD who introduced it to me and I did my research and learned more about by men and women of GOD. I remember the LORD telling me "MAKE A COVENANT WITH ME, I DON'T WANT YOU TO WASTE YOUR TIME PRAYING FOR THE PROTECTION OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD EVERYDAY, I WANT YOU TO PRAY FOR OTHER THINGS, TAKE THE SHOFAR AND BLOW IT EVERY MORNING AND I WILL REMEMBER YOUR HOUSEHOLD AND WATCH OVER THEM" It is amazing because during that time HE was teaching me about fasting, and HE said to me " FAST FOR ONE WEEK AND THAT WILL BE YOUR PART OFTHE COVENANT " I remember asking MY BEAUTIFUL FATHER, "LORD, you have showed me that I will do some traveling in the future, and it is kind of difficult to be traveling with the shofar?" this is what HE said to me,
"YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT, WHEREVER YOU ARE, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TAKE YOUR HAND AND MAKE A FIST AND BLOW IT AND I WILL KEEP MY COVENANT", so my beautifull brothers and sister don't waste your time in senseless arguments, "THE KINGDOM OF GOD MOVES BY FAITH" TO THE HONOR AND GLORY OF JESUS CHRIST. GOD BLESS YOU!

Make a fist and blow it? how does that work? would love to learn from you. God bless,

    • @taj400
      @taj400 Před 10 lety +2

Maria Henesy remember this is what the LORD told me when traveling cause it was going to be hard to carry a shofar where ever I went, he told me to make a covenant with HIM, I would play the shofar or when away use my fist, my part of the covenant was the 7 day fast and HIS was the protection of my house, now ANYONE CAN MAKE A COVENANT WITH GOD, THEY CAN DO SAMETHING I DID OR ANYTYPE OF COVENANT, GOD IS A GOD OF COVENANTS. When I use my hands I just make a fist blow it 3 times and that is it, cause in my spirit I feel I should blow it 3 times and that is it. Remember there are 2 kingdoms in this universe and both move by faith, let me give you an example: When praying for a house some people use oil or some water, in my case I usually use water, I grab a cup put some water in it and pray over it and ask the LORD to turned it into the blood of JESUS n of course pray for salvation, restoration and blessings for those living there and for the house, some may say in the bible they use oil and yes it's truth, but the SPIRIT allows me to use water and in some houses I have seen great victories and manifestations. THE FIRST TIME I DID THIS, I REMEMBER PRAYING FOR THE HOUSE AND AFTER I WAS DONE I WENT TO THE SINK TO THROW AWAY THE REMAINING WATER IN THE CUP, AS I WAS ABOUT TO DO THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT SPOKE TO ME AND SAID 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THAT IS THE BLOOD JESUS' This is what I had prayed for, for the LORD TO TURN THE WATER INTO THE BLOOD, REMEMBER IT'S BY FAITH., so what I did is make sure the sink was clean and pour it down the drain very gently, as the SPIRIT LED ME. In this video also u can feel the presence of GOD, IT BRINGS THE PRESENCE OF GOD, so many criticize him for using a mouthpiece, NOW SERIOUSLY HE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT IF THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS THERE, THAT IS WHY I say, mouthpiece or no mouthpiece who cares, WE CAN FEEL THE PRESENCE OF GOD, WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT. GOD BLESS YOU SISTER. like I always say 'CONSULT WITH THE LORD ABOUT EVERYTHING, LET HIM BE YOUR TEACHER OR CONFIRMED WHAT OTHERS TEACH IN HIS NAME.

With or without a trumpet mouth peace this man did a well job...idk if its considered cheating but indeed this is a kudu horn....i opened up the mouth peace on my Yemenite Shofar as a result it sound incredibly loud but its harder to control n get 3 tones n 4 seem impossible but when i blow in my congregation no need for a mic

Apparently, most people making comments on here do not understand the concept of trumpet playing. Sure the ideal way to blow a shofar is the natural way, but for a trumpet player our apertures are very important. To protect his aperture from damage he is going to use his mouthpiece. I've blown a shofar without a mouthpiece and it definitely takes a toll on your aperture. Phil was amazing. I bet the ba’alei tekiah's in ancient Israel would have loved a mouthpiece and God would have loved it too.

Ram's horn are traditionally used as shofars, and rather than been twisted in heat like he mentioned, they are straightened at the tip so it can be played, but this is is a completely natural horn from an African yemenite kudu.

@@jorgemaldonado7885 ....Thank you for the reply. I was interested because I know that The Lord required that the shofars be made from a "Ram's Horn", and I was pretty certain that what I was seeing was not a Ram's Horn.

As a ba'al tekiah for my Messianic Jewish congregation, I am both impressed by his talent and offended by his lack of effort. Had he put in the time and effort, he could have found a well crafted shofar that wouldn't have needed to be profaned by I brass mouthpiece. The number one rule when buying a shofar? blow every shofar you come across until you find the right one. While seeking my current shofar, I blew over 2000 different shofars over the course of 3 years looking for one that was capable of being sounded the way that was befitting my King. And even once I'd found my shofar, I still had to heat it and do some drill work on the "mouthpiece" in order to make it sound just right.
Some may label me a hater, and that's OK. Some may say in placing myself in bondage by obeying the Commandments, and even pray for me before they eat their pulled pork sandwiches not and that's OK. But boy won't they be surprised on the day of judgement when they're standing before a Jewish rabbi wondering where Jesus is.
Spoiler alert! Jesus was a Jewish rabbi!

+o00osimbasmateo00o so you think you can provoke me? Laughter at your foolishness and pity for you ignorance is my only response. You will answer for your antisemitism on the day off judgment when you stand before the Lord and realize with horror that Jesus is a Jewish rabbi. lol

Mate, I've been grafted in to the olive tree.
Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Yeshua is much more than just a rabbi. Rabbi, however does mean My Master, and He is Master of the vineyard, and He will teach us the new law in our heart in the new kingdom. But He is also Lord of Lords and King of Kings, Al Shaddai, Alahym, Alpha and Omega.
If you believe the talmud than you are greatly deceived, but if this is all good by you than I was wrong in my assumption and I'm sorry.

+o00osimbasmateo00o and you are forgiven. as for my beliefs on the Talmud, I believe it to be a fairly decent commentary on the Tanakh. But everything except the Word of God is to be taken with a grain of salt.

While I certainly respect your thoughts on this, Matthew, I believe that God wants us to use our talents to the max, as laid out in the parable of the talents. Being a trumpeter myself, I can tell you that Phil doesn't want to mess up his emboucher, which is adjusted to his trumpet mouthpiece. Just received a 22" Kudu Shofar myself for Christmas, which I'm playing with a Mt. Vernon Bach 7C Cornet mouthpiece. My intention is to play calls to worship for my ⛪, and to make these calls as beautiful and powerful as God allows me to. Peace/Happy New Year
