- Thought I'd do a full commute from home to work as a 1-month review video. During the commute, I weigh in on some thoughts on the board, and go over the riding that I typically do on my commutes. I think the best reviews are just raw riding footage, and I don't think I've seen a video out there where someone does a full commute on their board.

@@stevesilva33 man you need to get one! You'd rip in the first minute with freebord experience. With the financing, monthly payments aren't bad, and you can avoid interest. I just bought a mattress that way, at near the same price! Hope to see you on one!

I had this same concept idea once myself. Super excited to try it. Born and raised in florida but lived in Colorado for 2years. I was a natural snowboarder. This will solve everything!
Literally in the same boat. Florida born and raised 26 years, but took a trip to colorado once and fell in love with snowboarding. Have one arriving monday now!

Great board! When pushing off, Aaron recommends pushing off while your back foot is on the board so that your front foot creates better forward momentum, among a couple more reasons 👍🏼

I don’t snowboard. Tried it once and ate shit so much and that led me to not wanting to try it again. BUT THIS! This looks like so much fun and can get some good drifts in! If it’s not sold out forever I might pick one up
Get it man, it's so fun! You can start really slow with no hills, so it's easy to avoid eating shit. The only people who eat shit are the ones that get way overconfident too early and kook out - but you could apply that to pretty much anything

Hey I appreciate this video a lot, super helpful! Just curious, what are the maintenance and maintenance costs that you’ve put into this since you bought it? I would LOVE to get this but almost 2k is a lot, don’t want to drop a bunch more on maintenance quickly ya know? Thanks!
the maintenance isn't bad, just change the outer wheels every so often (they typically last me 3-5 months) and those are not expensive. The inner drive wheels last me over a year. If you have a warranty issue, SB will cover it. Its just a blast to ride
This thing looks like so much fun ... I already have 3 Freebords, Giving Electrical power must be super sweet. Walking back uphill can be a bit of a bummer.
Yes!!! Riding uphill is so much fun, especially sliding! You HAVE to get this board, you'd shred from day 1. It opens up so much more territory, like wide spaces such as parking lots, where you can do huge slides not possible on downhill roads.
I stopped riding my freebord when I moved to the city because it was just not that fun to commute with and it was messing with my knees from pushing. I'm so amped about this. Can't believe I just discovered it.

Do you recommend getting the foot holds? I was thinking about it but not really sure if it’s worth an extra $150 for the holds and launch pads
Hey bro, I have one and honestly I've been using my foamies a lot more than the footholds. The footholds are best for jumping, and higher speeds.

Thanks - always trying to improve. Part of my style is not necessarily looking in the direction I'm going, especially on backslides. That sounds really stupid to say, but I like how it feels

Just get it! Hahh, of course I think it's justified - Beyond the exercise and use on commutes, it's just freaking fun. Also, the pay over time option is great - I do that for everything over $1k these days.
Yeti_Riding do you know if they have some kind of rental program or places to test it ? I feel like that would be a huge way for them to sell these, getting people to know the experience for they commit
Just like how most people just don’t buy snowboards day 1, but rent for the first several runs to see if they like it.
@@MatthewNguyen90 yeah I get it! I've done demos with people who buy and I have to say, it's pretty limited how much you can take away from a demo ride. Honestly, if you're a snowboarder and that's the experience you want, you will not be disappointed! As for other things like durability, maintenance, etc., Just got to watch and read reviews on the model you're considering. You won't know any of that from a demo ride, of course. It sounds like something I never thought I'd say, but demos are kinda overrated.

How's the SBX compared to v2? In videos I see it seems that SBX is more smooth to control and do 180s
SBX has way more control! For many reasons, but 180s and spins are easier mainly because the new drive wheels are 2x as wide and shaped like a sphere -- this makes it go from edge to edge very smoothly
I can snowboard but I’ve never skateboarded. Will this be fairly straight forward to pick up?
I got my SBX in Dec and was in the same boat: decades of snowboarding, wakeboarding and quad-rollerskating, but never any skateboarding. There's definitely a learning curve, but I'm progressing well and love this SBX so much!
I'm interested in knowing more about the controller what changes to the throttle and brake are made throughout a ride, spinning, sliding and stopping.
The controller is super straightforward, it is basically a gas pedal or optional brake (braking by sliding is much more effective and fun). Nothing really changes when you ride - of course the acceleration is affected by sliding, as you are adding resistance. To counter that, you just keep your thumb down on the wheel and don't let up. Did that answer your question? I can clarify more, if you want to know something specific.
@@yeti_riding5612 is the acceleration proportional to how much or how far you're pulling "the trigger"? I have an RC car controller in mind, so I'm just curious how it's really working. Maybe you click it up to whatever speed you want and it stays until you click down or slide?
@@jeremyweitzel726 on the summerboard, there is no trigger, just a thumb wheel -- but that works how you generally describe it: it keeps you at a certain speed until you slide or stop. When you are going about 10mph or higher, regular slides don't really slow you down (like snowboarding) unless you really slide hard to brake. If you just hold the thumb wheel in one place and just slide freely, it doesn't feel like you're slowing down, just feels natural. I filmed some shots for a remote review, I just need to edit them - look out for that!
Hi thank you for the amazing video and the narration. I'm looking for my first e-skateboard. Do you think this would be good for group rides? I like how it requires more engagement from the user, but I'm afraid I might irritate people who are cruising slowly because of the constant weaving and sliding. Thanks!
No way! When I ride in groups, other skaters are mesmerized by this board, they love it. Also, the amount that you weave (if you want to go straight) is not that much, and if you give the normal safe amount of space, that is plenty. Every time I show up for group rides with e skaters, this board is the star

So how does it handle rough and/or wet surfaces? I currently ride a OneWheel and love it, but really want some sliding action.
Sliding is everything!!!! Handling depends on how rough - you can go off road, but its really just good for transitioning from one path to another, not staying off road. It does great on wet surfaces, it just slides a lot easier, which is not hard to adjust to. Some riders I know love the rain.

How in the world do you ride like that~~~~ just got mine last night, tried about 30mins without bindings on the board, 30 mins later I’m sweating from head to toe lol I think the person that Sold me the board just couldn’t get the hang of it and gave up haha hopefully I’ll get the hang of it ~~~ without breaking any bones lol
Just take it slow without the bindings and you'll pick it up fast. Definitely take a look at their training page, and you'll learn 100x faster, they put a lot of work into training videos and resources
Yeti_Riding Is it necessary to take the bindings off when learning? I ride freebords for the last ten years and it would seem like the only difference is itʻs motorized. I do have an electric skateboard and a Onewheel but an electric freebord looks like alot of fun inthe flats (no hills to freebord where I live)

Ghosty Frost unfortunately I had a brainfart one day with the bindings on at a deadstop and ended up falling hard enough that it put me out for a month... just got back to riding it this week... about 20 miles worth, no bindings. It seems my reaction time has deteriorated... I’m in my 50’s after all. I have brought out my older freebord to push around though. I will take off the risers though thanks.

Awesome video! I’m thinking of buying a summer board but my only concern is the learning curve, I currently have a boosted board and I also have a little experience in snow boarding. Would it be hard to do 360’s?
Anyone can learn, and if you ride regularly, you'll do threes pretty fast. The learning curve is the best part, because it never ends, I'm always getting better. On an electric longboard, what you do your first day is probably 95% of what you'll ever do. If you like learning and developing skills, you'll love it

So do you use ur back foot to control the board for turns n spins?
When riding the board, you're using your *entire body* all the time, which is maybe the biggest reason I love this thing. It's like you get your whole body into this flow state. To spin, it all starts in your head/ shoulders and is balanced between your two feet - for the smoothest spins, your weight is really centered on the board.

Yes, there is a speedometer on the remote! I like to cruise around 15 mph, which for me is a comfortable speed to spin and be able to run it out if I ever have to bail.

So if you can shred on a SB, how quickly might you pick up actual snowboarding, if you’ve never done it?
I've seen a couple of videos of people who did that and they were able to comfortably ride around chill runs on their first day, and navigate the mountain. Pretty incredible, considering that you typically spend your first few days snowboarding on one bunny hill.
Great review. While riding fast, what happens if your battery suddenly dies (Like does the board cruise freely to a stop, or does it brake and stop suddenly and potentially throw the rider forward)?

Thanks! To answer your question, no, it cruises to a stop. In fact, you can ride it with no battery power as long as you're going downhill. I live downhill from my local park so I do that all the time.

It handles well on rough pavement and they have new soft wheels that make that a lot smoother. If you are talking about cobble stones, I don't think there is any board out there that you'd want to ride on that. This board does great over pavers

You look extremely comfortable on the board, from other reviews I saw people falling a lot and needing to wear full protective gear etc. I am a very experience snowboarder, snowboarding instructor etc. Have snowboarded full seasons for many years. The board looks really appealing to me, apart from the inevitable injuries and having to wear protection in a lot of the other videos I've seen, what are your thoughts?
Thanks! Injuries are NOT inevitable - it's like anything, just ride within your limits (and a lot of people don't do that). That said, you should wear pads, in this video you can see my knee pads under my pants, and I wear wrist guards. I recommend that as a minimum, with a helmet of course.

@@travisroth4077 I really like Leatt gear (3df series) because it is slim and protects well. G-form (e-line series) is also a good option. I definitely recommend getting something with a hard shell outer (it can be thin), but you want it to be able to slide, not catch like a soft shell.

How often do you need to change the wheels??? Seems like it would wear them down so fast. Looks soooo fun!!! I want one
For me, it's 1-2 months, but for others it's more or less. Wearing down the wheels is something you just do with this board, can't really worry about it. Also gives you a lot of chances to switch up colors and get LED wheels or other stuff.
Is there any try before you buy on these? 1700 is a big investment

@@yeti_riding5612 idk it's starting to lose power randomly around 60% battery. I'll be riding and it will beep like it turned itself off and on its a meepo board. But it's scary when I'm going faster than 18mph or so and it happens.

If it wasn't for this video, I would've returned my summerboard days ago. Just knowing that this level of riding is possible has given me hope. I finally got the hang of it today with switching edges at low and high speeds. However, I'm not very good at drifting/sliding. I still haven't put the bindings on yet. Do they help a lot or a little with the sliding. I really want to slide like this.
You're going to be so glad you kept your board! You should learn to slide and control the board without the bindings before you put them on. If you just put in some time, you'll get it very soon. Check out the videos on summerboard.com/training and join the Facebook group so you can see other people going thru the learning process as well, and get tips!

Okay so I came here to ask if you can ride switch on this thing and you addressed it in less than a minute lol. I'm sooo close to buying one of these. I wouldn't be using it for a commute though, just for fun. I could easily see myself riding on this thing for hours at a time. My concern is that the battery life will let me down... what do you think? thanks!
Battery life is great and you can swap out batteries too, to get full days if you want. Two batteries will destroy you though

Hey dude I'm highly considering getting the sbx but I'm just worried about the top speed. The commutes only 6km for me so not worried about battery life, was hoping if the board can easily rip through flats streets doing at least 30 kms/h.
Oh yeah it will - top speed is 40 km/h. I usually cruise at about 24-28 km/h. In this video I'm doing about 24.

@@christianalegre5724 yeah, drag depends on how much weight you put on your edge. Once you get more skilled at riding on your Center wheels, then you don't put much weight on your edges, which means less outer wheel wear and also means less drag and speed reduction.

Can you still accelerate while riding switch? I'm a goofy rider and am wondering how that would work, would I just flip the foot hooks around?
Board doesn't care what direction you go in, it can accelerate in any direction. It doesn't know goofy from regular 🤘 go crazy
How much skateboarding experience did you have prior 2 buying the summerboard? if you already had hella experience prior, do you think this board would be easy (or easier than a normal skateboard) to learn to ride from scratch?
Harder to learn than a skateboard, but easy to advance, just like snowboarding
How much do you have to rely on the accretion from the motor to actually go? Is there a way you can ride without a remote ie a large hill
Yeah, going down a hill you don't need the motors. The park I ride at is uphill from my house, which is great because multiple times I have drained my battery and made it home on gravity

I do it all the time, one of the best things about the board

Yes, but also it's not only about top speed. Sbx goes up hills much better and has better strength to power thru slides. You can absolutely shred with SB1 but SBX is a better experience and performance

Really depends on how rough the terrain is - the freshies drive wheels really help with that. You can ride straight, just like on a snowboard
Would you have to be really good and comfortable riding switch to get the most out of it? The rider appears to be natural at switch, goofy or any stance. Could it make you better at switch?
This board is an incredible tool for switch training, and you don't have to use valuable mountain time to practice switch (that's why I never got great at it, I didn't want to spend my time on easy runs practicing switch! Just like snowboarding, you can do all kinds of stuff without riding switch tho

Yeah I got the launch pads - I highly recommend them, they make your feet feel super comfy! I rode without them for a long time and I totally had a blast, but it's one of those things that once you use them you can't go without them!

Definitely! And way more fun!
Does the carving lead to shredding of the polyurethane on the wheels?
Sliding wears down the wheels more (which is what is supposed to happen). Carving wears them down at a rate that is more like a typical longboard
Do you ever catch the edge and wipe out? I can only imagine how that would feel.
Your feet are not locked in, like on a snowboard, so its not really the same. When I go to catch an edge, I jump off and run it out. Even if you do fall down on an edge catch, its like falling off a skateboard, its still not the same as catching an edge on a snowboard. On a snowboard, the board (locked onto your feet) pulls you down into the ground, and the summerboard doesn't do that.
What type of pants are you wearing?

I just broke my wrist doing a 180 on a normal skateboard, if only I'd had this 😋. It does look fun but not a fan of the (open) straps... They would make falls very bad for me, ankle breakers! 😋
The footholds give you total control and you can jump out of them, which I've done many times. No ankle breaks
@@yeti_riding5612 I'm definitely going to be getting an electric board and this looks like a combination of a "the wave" / "wave rider caster board" and a normal set-up. That like gliding is sweet! Yeah I could get used to the footholds! Haha and cheers, yup after this is better will be investing in a bit of protection. I quit skating for 5 years then did this upon starting up but not quitting again! (My custom board is way too sweet! Lol)

Not sure if I understand your question- - the board has a total of six wheels and I'm always using all of them. Does that answer it?
The 2 black rubber spherical tires down the center are belt-driven by motors. They swivel based on how you are shifting your bodyweight and applying pressure on the deck.
The 4 skateboard wheels are elevated higher than the tires. They serve as tip-preventers and as edges to slide on, like the edge of a snowboard or ski.

Great video. I've a OneWheel but am considering this. Have you ever riden a OneWheel? Would be great if you could compare/contrast.
My main concern is the small size of the summerboards wheels and how that may end up crashing you on potholes/gaps etc in the street...
Yeah I've rode a onewheel a few times - I'm not that into them, mainly because I feel like I'm riding software instead of a board (it doesn't have board Dynamics like surf/skate/ etc) or just riding a hoverboard going sideways. Also I'm really afraid of the nose dives.
With potholes, I just jump over them or ride around them, although the wheels really aren't that small, they're 75 mm tall and that will roll over a lot of stuff, surprisingly. If I'm paying attention to my riding, it's really not hard to dodge anything that would trip me up, because any rocks or sticks or holes that aren't easy to see, you can roll right over those no problem.

The lack of a remote is another reason I was attracted to a OneWheel. Truly hands free. Does the remote ever bother/hinder you on the summerboard?
@@patrickjkavanagh no way, in fact I would feel weird without a remote. If acceleration was controlled by my feet/legs, I would be super constrained on other movements, especially spinning. Onewheel is kind of its own thing, having the tilt-to-accelerate (like hoverboards) but, like I said before, I don't see that as anything like actual board sports - there isn't a *board* out of there that gets acceleration when you press down on your front foot.
For real "boarding", you need a remote, and honestly, it's not a bad thing at all, in fact I feel more in control. I think that "no remote is best" is really a marketing thing by OW

And yeah that ability to spin seems very useful - I noticed in your video you could easily check to see who/what might be behind you w/ a quick spin. Very useful.
So you'd say is 100% worth it? They are really expensive. Are you still riding it? Did anything break?
If you like the idea of snowboarding around your town, it is 1000% worth it. I had to send my battery back to get fixed but they did the work very fast and turned it around the same day. Check the Facebook group if you want to see what people are saying about customer service -- my experience has been great. I would give up every piece of tech I have (incl smartphone) before this board!!

I think they ride pretty balanced, but little bit on the tight side.

Yes!!! I ride all the time and get all cranky if some time goes by and I can't get out to ride, hahh. Money is definitely worth it, it's a solid build and I haven't had any issues with it.

Bread is legit. They are like many companies out there - affirm, quadpay, klarna, even PayPal, that are doing this type of financing

@@LongboardManiac I've only taken the deal when I can pay it back with no interest (typically has to be in 4-6 months). But they don't do a "hard" credit check to give you an offer, so you can just try and see where you land
Is it easier to spin and lighter than gen1 Leif board?
Oh yeah, way easier because the motor controller is upgraded (now it is super responsive and precise) and the wider drive wheels make edge to edge transfer super smooth!

Are those foothold necessary for commuting?
Nah, I can do just about everything without footholds. They just give you more control and stopping power. Riding without the footholds is actually good because it forces you to balance a lot better.
I can't wait to try the new minimal footholds they are coming out with, called foamies

How similar is this to an actual snowboard?
Pretty much the same exact use of your body and muscles, so it feels the same. You get sore in all the same places!

Does the motor autoreverse when you switch 180?
That is not necessary, motors always run forward. The caster wheels spin with you, and they do that automatically because the force of your weight and board movement pushes them into alignment
@@yeti_riding5612 Got it. I realised that might be the case from the wheel vertical alignment question below. You seem pretty comfy sliding, i guess the amount of slide is controllable by the amount of pressure on the "outrigger" wheels? Also, you mention stepping off below, but is that possible with those L-shaped brackets over your foot? I feel I would end up in a heap if I tried to leap off...on that point, can you face-plant, catch an edge??
@@ColindeSilva you have to start out really slow, just like anything, where you use just the board and not the L-shaped footholds. Once you get comfortable and able to jump off the board without the footholds, then you start to use the footholds and practice, then you can jump out of the footholds pretty easily. You can catch an edge, however the consequences aren't nearly as bad because you are not locked into the board like you are with boots and bindings on a snowboard. You can fall off any skateboard and wreck yourself pretty good though

Yeti_Riding hopefully yes. Did you advance to the level of not always having to have an edge and balance on just the two small wheels when you choose to do so?
@@fifty2eighty248 yeah, it's not hard to get to that level. I mean, nobody stays on the centers indefinitely tho, you always tap the edges a little, but not *ride* them

I used a 360 camera and held it with my non-remote hand. The camera software edits itself out of the picture, and since I was holding it with my hand, it probably made my hand look odd. Unless you really think I got a wierd looking hand or something

Thanks! Gravity carries the board down hill, you can ride it with a dead battery down hill, I do all the time
