Sadly the world is filled by people who simply don't fit into society. The good news here is that he survived in society until he was 61 and admitted to the asylum. One hopes that in those 61 years, he had many moments of happiness.
So sad how much effort cultures have put into ignoring the basic material conditions underlying the state of individuals. Only very recently have the dominant cultures begun to consider addressing those conditions as remedy rather than diagnosing individuals with goofy “conditions” and prescribing equally goofy, (sometimes atrocious) “remedies”. Like, yeah no crap he’s melancholy, everyone he ever loved is dead and he lives his days with no human interaction.

The poor guy died of stomach cancer that went to his brain. Hard life.😢
