    It will help if, instead of trying to force ourselves to be "body positive," we take attention completely away from our bodies. Let's focus on the inside - let's learn from Linda's kindness, candidness, creativity. We have our own amazing characteristics that are treated unfairly when we focus so much on what's on the outside. Think about it: you can go under the knife and change your appearance, but not get surgery to make your personality better. We should focus on what's most valuable.

    • @AL-nh6zm
      @AL-nh6zm Před 2 lety +20

      Right ! Personally, on days when I feel like I don't look good, it never helps me to say "I'm beautiful" because I just can't convince myself of that. What has really helped me is thinking "so what if I am not looking good? Does it really matter?" I have people in my life that I don't particularly find beautiful but I absolutely don't give a sh*t because they are amazing people. Their appearance literally does not matter one bit to me, I absolutely never think about it, I care about their personalities.
      Once I've realized that, I tried applying the same thought process to me, it does not matter what I look like, that's not what people like me for. and of course it's not magical but I've found it definitely helps.

    I’m a much bigger fan of “body neutrality”
    It allows you to make peace with the body you have.
    It’s the idea to just be without thinking too much about your body or view it as negative or positive.

    I think weight, and food is SUCH a personal thing. Personally, I feel like weight gain is only glamourized on social media. I go on Tik Tok and see beautiful women who are embracing their new found curves, and KUDOS to them. Maybe that is what they needed during this time on THEIR journey. But for me.. weight gain brings acne, a bloated face, and I overall just feel really terrible. There is so much unsolicited diet advice out there that shames dieting, and encourages people to just eat what they want. My metabolism is slow, and if I eat whatever I want I will gain weight and spiral into my own personal misery. I can easily get triggered and start binging and completely let myself go. Watching what I eat, and treating myself 1 day a week is MY personal freedom, keeps me from binging, and it's what works for me. Everybody and every body is beautiful, but we need to remember that everyone is so different- and what is healthy for you, is not necessarily healthy for me. (im only 2 minutes into your video so sorry if this is irrelevant lolol)

      @sanamonster1 Před 2 lety +35

      I completely agree, i do intermittent fasting and it brings me inner peace and strength and keeps me safe from bloating and acne. Not saying everyone should do it but its my personal choice. I eat less and my body feels happy 🙂

      Yes exactly! I don’t like how social media tends to take one thing and demonizes it, when for some it may not work but for others it works wonders! For me personally I just eat whole food and that works for me. I feel great, I feel freedom, and it gives me so much energy and I sleep better 💕🌱 YES, it’s totally fine to eat junk/processed food, but for me, my mental health (and physical) doesn’t do well with that

    • @Ludicy707
      @Ludicy707 Před 2 lety +7

      Amen, there's nothing more than truth to be found in what you say. It's taken me years to realize even the positivity around weight gain and body changes can be toxic just as much as diet culture. At the end of the day whatever makes you comfortable and cheery is what matters. My eating habits pretty much match up with yours, cause if I eat it too often the guilt builds up whether I can help it or not. Once or twice a week gives me much more satisfaction and feels deserving. Therefore no guilt follows me.

    • @mariaviruiz446
      @mariaviruiz446 Před 2 lety +4

      I agree with you Margaret! I have hypothyroidism and polycystic ovary syndrome, and, even with pharmacological treatment, I tend to gain weight soooo fast if I don't take care of my diet, even when I workout every day. With weight gain I also get acne, amenorrea (lack of period), my hair falls down, and my mood is completely messed up. I would reccomend everyone that struggles with weight (either to lose it or to gain it) to go to the doctor an get a check up. My life changed when I was diagnosed, I learned what I needed and how to take care of myself.

      Yess... nowadays it seems like we're expected to love our body now matter what. For me, this just leads to superficial, shallow, and untrue self "love"-- just covering up my real emotions. It's okay to not adore your body. The important thing is to not beat yourself up about what you look like and instead take care of your beautiful self, no matter what.

      I've been there, my anorexia got to a very low point during the first quarantine and I thought I would never get better. I was underweight and scared to gain weight. I've gained weight since and am eating listening to my body and my cravings!! you'll get there I promise, I believe in you

      Ok so compared to two months ago I’m much better. Or I’m definitely eating more, more comfortable eating around others. I still hate the way I look though especially after gaining weight and I’m hoping time will help with that. I’ve found buying bigger clothes, clothes that cover my insecurities helpful. For example I hate my thighs especially and I always wore skinny jeans which didn’t help me out. So wearing skirts and slightly baggier trousers are helping me out slightly.

    • @AliceMcDonagh
      @AliceMcDonagh Před 2 lety

      @@calyspo4920 for me (everyone is different) therapy and other people trying to help didn’t help. If anything people recognising I had anorexia was fuelling me to maintain the skinny body I had. I think in the end you can only help you.Even though it’s difficult, especially if you’re struggling with other things along with eating. Just think about how tiering thinking about food all the time is and all the great stuff you’ll be able to do with more energy. Life will become more enjoyable. Also try not to be as hard on yourself, you don’t have to look perfect and you don’t have to be super thin to be beautiful. Take your time, and try and recover. It’s never a speedy process. Just like how developing an eating disorder isn’t an overnight thing, getting better isn’t either.

    Thank you for making this video. I've had a rough week when it comes to binge eating problems and weight gain, but this made me feel a little better. I'm trying to learn intuitive eating as well as embracing my weight gain on my journey to a helathy relationship with food. And this reminded me that it will take time, and it will be okay. It might not be fine right away and there will come so many challanges, but I shouldn't let myself down and start to restrict in order to compensate, but try on focusing on now. Idk if that made any sense at all, but I just wanna say thank you. I might not be at my best rn, but Linda, u just made it a little better. Thank you

    i feel soo understanded, often i think about it twice if i should eat that chocolate or whatever because i want to lose weight but think that i can only lose it if i restrict myself, don't listen to my body and my cravings. it's sometimes soo hard but you really helped me. keep your mindset linda, we love you for that!

    i subscribed to your channel a couple months back but i rarely watched a video cuz the titles just made me think it'd have something triggering for me, someone struggling with ed and body image issues.
    this title felt so relatable that i had to click. i got thru half the video and im just going thru so many emotions that i cant express atm. but what i can say is thank you. seriously, you inspire and help a lot of people with your content. it must not be easy sharing so many vulnerable things with us but you still have the courage to do it and im grateful for it.

    Your yoga game is on point oiii gurl that morning yoga flow was insane! You should do a "yoga flow with me" video.
    ps. You so inspire me to focus on fuelling while working out in a way that I love and makes me feel good. You've helped me so much in my recovery and learning to allow myself to eat without tracking. (eating pancakes as I watch!)
    pps. I can so relate to food, making meals pretty and making new recipes, being the only interesting or non-stressful thing in one's life. I'm in same boat atm. It's a way of coping and finding joy in the little things. It is also something that I hyperfocus on a little too much! I'm working on finding other ways to find enjoyment in life through friends, walking outside, drawing, and recently sewing (thanks to my huge pile of stuff needing to be mended)!
    ppppppppps. I have the same body problem. It's just the body type I have! no butt, no curves, and I gain weight in weird places like arms, abdomen, and legs but not in a curvy way. It's just the way we are built and that's okay

    I'm so glad you've spoken about this!! In recovery for food freedom and getting rid of those disordered eating patterns, I think there's SOOOO much pressure to weightlift in order to put on muscle mass in the right places as you said rather than fat from the energy the extra food gives you! Like yes, weight lift if that's what you GENUINELY enjoy doing but it's really not for everyone. Move your body how YOU want, how little and how much YOU want, and realistically if weight gain were to happen it'll happen everywhere, remember these influencers only show you the best bits. Just like you can't spot reduce fat, you can't spot gain it entirely either! What if I just want to eat what I want and do absolutely nothing? I totally deserve to, and I will! Thank you Linda, you don't understand how much you're helping people!

    Thanks for this! I recently gained 20lbs when the pandemic first started and I have definitely been stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to accept it haha. I have been working out regularly and am trying to live a healthier lifestyle and maintain where I am now. I guess I am at the point where I just want to be happy, confident and feel good about myself because regardless of me being “overweight for my height”😒 I am the healthiest I have ever been and I am proud of where I am going. I am also glad that I know I am not the only one❤️. Keep it up girl, bless your heart !

    I'm so happy you keep uploading this kind of content. I want you to know that you've really helped me - and I'm guessing a lot of others as well - get through my ed and improve my relationship with food. Thank you so much for making me realise that not everything is about food and body looks. Instead, life is about friendship/family/love & so many other thngs and so it's not worth it to stress about your next meal, your weight etc. If you are reading this and you are still struggling to get to a healthier relationship with food and you body, I'm not gonna lie to you. It definitely was not easy for me. Time is key and being around friends and generally people who appreciate you helps for sure. Hope y'all have a great day. xx

These months I am having hard times with my body(i gained weight,not so much ,but for lot of years i was "the slim girl" and now i am not and it's hard). All day long I am scared and anxious that I am gonna overeat ,because when i do that i feel soo bad and guilty. Your videos are helping me to understand that it is normal to overeat because after all we are all humans.

    I needed this as I’m honestly gutted as constant harassment at my gym has made me uncomfortable going unless I have headphones. I mean it’s always something like I just can’t catch a break. The gym is a place where I take out every emotion and how I start my day and the fact I fear it can be taken away because of harassment is the worst feeling

    What you said about the body positvity really explained how I feel being in it, and perhaps why I am still scared to mention how my body has changed when I eat or exercise, as if there is a certain expectation on how your body is meant to change.

    Thank you so much,
