The pancreas is a vital organ located in the abdomen behind the stomach. It serves dual functions: exocrine and endocrine. The exocrine part of the pancreas produces digestive enzymes, such as amylase, lipase, and proteases, which are released into the small intestine to aid in digestion. The endocrine part consists of the islets of Langerhans, which secrete hormones like insulin and glucagon directly into the bloodstream to regulate blood sugar levels.
