I like catching these lizards by hand. I catch at least a brown anole every day with my bare hands. My method is by sneaking up to them, try to get your hand as close as possible to them, then strike.
I live in seal Beach i see lizard very month i wish I could see more i helped common house gecko with injured leg that was drowning and was about to lay eggs and a very dehydrated male western fence lizard we have cages so if u find hurt lizard and are able to catch it then pls contact us
I wait from them to slow down or stop moving for a bit, then catch them by the torso, and another tip is block them by putting your hand in front of them
I believe I can fly I got shot by a pizza guy all I wanted was onion rings from McDonald's or Burger King I believe I can soar I got slapped in a grocery store even though I'm 24 I got an imaginary dinosaur I believe I can fall because I tripped by a bouncy ball
There are many green anoles and five-lined skinks in my area, and I catch them really easy, their tail isn’t very supervised because “oh I just detach it” but i can lightly pin its upper tail and kinda just pick it up. The skinks are a little snappy but no teeth lol. I have a green anole rn but I might own a skink sometime. My green anole is affectionate and likes being handled. (he jumps on my hand when I feed him or clean his cage)
I catch the anoles with a fishing pole and a loop in the clear fishing line. Put the loop over the head and then pick up...sometime they will run wich also catches them. It does not hurt them and I have watched Scientist catch them this way. After a few times you will get better at it.
I wrote a children's book about catching lizards called, On The Loose. Here in Florida, they love to sneak in the house, and we have to help them get back outside. 🦎
What about desert iguana's from over here in the desert Southwest? How would you catch them without them running inside their borrows, or if they do go in their borrows, what's the best way of capturing them?
I have tiny cute baby lizards all around my home, I love them. They are usually hanging around my walls, so I just catch them by first just approaching it slowly, I do it till the tiny reptile isnt that scared anymore. Afterwards, I proceed to grab it gently by the torso, BE VERY CAREFUL!! they are very tiny and hard to not just accidentally squish them.
Im guessing you accidently squished one before because i have and i felt so bad because i slammed my hand on it and was sad that i accidently killed it
I got a another tip you should add: While catching lizards you should also wear gloves so if they do bite you (idk they can) the gloves will make it painless.
If you go to the right hikes you might be able to, I think the only species in there are 5 lined skinks so look for areas with a large amount of rocks around a body of freshwater
Lol I love lizards and I actually have one in my hand right now and his name is Leo and it was pretty easy to catch him actually he was just on my trampoline and I knocked him off and now he kind of trust me now!
There is a green anole right on an air conditioner outside, I can’t catch that fucker, it’s so fast, and since I keep trying to catch it, it immediately bolts when it sees me, and I never see more lizards now, just them
I am trying to catch a lizard in my house before he starves or my cat gets it. I hope its not poisonous I am scared of it and its scared of me. Its a small wild lizard about the size of your green lizard but its not green its dark gray with a stripe I think but it moves too fast to tell for sure. Its probably a native wild lizard and this is northern Calif. Sacramento Valley. Maybe somebody knows. Is it poisonous? I'll catch it by the tail if its not poisonous IF I CAN.
I'm sorry but the sponge method is not effective in the wild, their to fast and the wont wait for you to put a sponge on them the will just run to their burrow I put my hands in a cup shape and then quickly put it ontop of them
Green anoles are super easy to catch. They’re pretty dumb and slow. On the other hand I’ve been trying to catch a skink for the past 6 months and I have had no luck. Those bastards have amazing reflexes and are fast as all get out.
Great ideas man. Its good to encourage people herping to try to teach them how to do it in the safest way possible for the animals.

What about desert iguana's from over here in the desert Southwest? How would you catch them without them running inside their borrows, or if they do go in their borrows, what's the best way of capturing them?
I would put a tiny bit of water and put your container over the hole and when they crawl out put it on them and take it where ever
What do you feed them with?

Good idea, normally I just let them bite me but if it's a bigger species some gloves would definitely help
