I would’ve just turned it around on the wife like “Why didn’t you tell me that your cousin was my abusive ex-girlfriend?” That way when the wife says “How was I supposed to know that was your ex girlfriend” he could respond “ how was I supposed to know she was your cousin?”. Honestly, the wife’s reaction was terrible. I hate it when you don’t let someone explain makes no sense.
Yeah, straight up. The guy needs to divorce his wife. Because he was even trying to find out what was going on and she still just took her s*** and just went to her parents house without even telling him. And then the phone call that they had with each other like nah, dude, he should have just strayed up filed for divorce since she didn't even care because what would have happened if he never showed up at the house, the same thing that her cousin did to him and just left him.
I see the wife as having a red flag, doesn’t talk to her husband about the problem but instead hides behind her parents who also don’t tell OP the story, he has to learn it from the sister. Yet once OP tries to talk it out his wife blames him and makes excuse such as you should have made me want know your past relationship. So I hope OP demands a dna test from Cynthia but probably isn’t even his and only did this bcz it’s her most hated cousin, but also demands that his wife and himself go to counseling bcz her leaving instead of talking it out doesn’t help.
the wife isnt a red flag. She was traumatized by the builying from cynthia and was retraumatized because of this unexpected meeting, such events can make you run wild and make you isolate yourself from the most loved ones.
@@GeneralFiona if your in a partnership of any value or type you communicate issues in said partnership with your partner you don't make your partner the bad guy in a situation they had no control over tbh their whole family sounds like a marching band of red flags in terms of maturity and communication issues.

The parents should have helped their daughter understand that it wasn’t his fault. But they made it worse by siding with her on her obviously wrong assumptions. Which was reinforcing her to not think straight.

As a general rule of thumb, if someone is extremely paranoid about their partner cheating, and it’s not due to distinct trauma or mental illness, then it’s because they are cheating.

Thank you! I’m glad I listened through to the end because some of the people blasting Amy here have no understanding that trauma affects people in different ways. High Kudos to the OP and the SIL as he kept is cool and she helped diffuse the tension enough to prompt reconciliation. And now they’re off to counseling which each deeply need on an individual basis as well as a joint unit.
If anyone really cared about this kid, they would call CPS on the mom since she likley has Arrest Warants, and Bio Dad cant be located.

Can we please have a bit of compassion for Amy? This was clearly a PTSD response, not a rational one, and she admitted that she was wrong and irrational and that she shouldn't have done what she did. Actual abusers don't take blame and don't admit to wrong doing, and it doesn't sound like she's done anything of the sort before or since. She certainly needs therapy and counseling but I don't think an instant divorce is the answer.
In this case, idk, but plenty of abusers admit to wrongdoing all the time and claim they'll change, pretend to change for a while, and go right back to their old behaviors. Just because someone will admit they did something wrong doesn't mean they're not abusers.
