  • These two young dwarf Yatsubusa Japanese black pine nursery stock hide many negative issues that need to be eliminated to create a beautiful bonsai. Important steps you need to do if you are new to bonsai and new to black pines. These two trees will be for sale at the upcoming Bonsai Northwest Melbourne Exhibition 20-21 April 2024 at the Footscray community art centre, 45 Moreland st Footscray 10am to 4pm.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Don't you think there are too many branches emanating from the middle of the second tree? Surely this will worsen the reverse taper and some branches should be jinned or pruned.

      As this will always be a mini bonsai the branches can be closer together without causing further reverse taper. Over time, if these branches are maintained and kept short then that area should not fatten up and cause further reverse taper.

    What time (season) would be best to do this mayor work?

      I like to do that any time after summer to early winter.
