With the Julia tunisian pattern I ended up with a bullion st every second st. 3rd row: Pull up the first st, (2sts on hook) pull up the next st then ,lift up a st from same st, the row below that st, (4sts on hook), pull yarn through this st, (4sts on hook) then pull yarn through 2 of the sts on hook (3sts on hook), chain 1. Repeat to end. Pull up next st,(4stson hook ) make bullion in next st. (5sts on hook), 😊 with 12sts on your hook you get 5 bullion sts

I keep thinking that these Victorian ladies were pulling their curls out with some of these patterns, even with the picture in front of them! I am imagining the "Good griefs" and "Land sakes" coming out of them, perhaps in an uncharacteristically loud volume 😂. I love your bravery in doing these mystery patterns; and don't worry, your fans are coming back for more!

One thing that might help: you keep not noticing “last but one” as a phrase. Second-to-last. The one before the last one. That makes these patterns even harder when a common phrase doesn’t compute!
Good attempts! I’m impressed with you trying these because yeah they make not enough sense.

  • @JennCampbell
    @JennCampbell Před 6 měsíci +6

'work over 2 threads, not 3.' I think they mean to work into the tops of the sts, not into space between sts. There is an extra strand when you work between. ❤

Don't feel bad. You are doing something unique on this channel and a good number of us would never get half as far as you do, with the majority of these patterns.
A suggestion for your son when taping over the names, he could either fold over the end of the tape to make a tab or put one of those plastic bread bag ties (the square ones) on the end of the tape to make a tab. That way it would be easier for you.

Back in the day many of books were not proofread for mistakes. As a former printing industry proofreader I can tell you of an experience I had. Proofreading is usually about making sure the typeset version matches the original manuscript. However you might also pick up anomalies in the original. These would then be referred back to the client for clarification. This happened with a name brand knitting pattern book. The client was surprised when I had picked up irregularities in the instructions. As a knitter myself I could read the pattern not just as a proofreader but also as a knitter.

I feel your frustration and I also feel sorry that you had to go through that. Sometimes while crafting I get so frustrated that I want to throw it out the window too so don't feel bad for just stopping trying.
I have to myself that crafting should be fun and be a pleasure to work on so if something is so frustrating that it makes me want to cry or throw it through the window I know it is time to stop and move on.
Kudos on trying and failing AND still sharing with us. Some crafters don't like to show that they can fail too and won't really post this kind of video but I personally think that it is good to show that it is fine to give up when you can't do it.
If someone ever do that right, please share with the rest of us, I would love to see it!

You did your best, same as those of us who struggled through with you, with our hooks at the ready. While I have a set of Tunisian hooks, I never really learned properly what to do with them, but I did manage to get a row of peaks on the return row of the Peak Pattern. My downfall was which stitches to raise on the following passing row. If I had more experience, I think I could have been of some use to you, and I apologize for this particular shortcoming. I'm looking forward to the 1977 pattern; at least we'll understand it (I hope).

I tried this peak stitch. I think the confusion is that you added the chain 2 to each of your 3 successive pull-throughs. It says to chain 2 then pull 3 times. So chain chain, pull through 2, pull through 2, pull through 2. I then pulled the will through the loop 3 stitches back from my hook, and started all over again. It came out as a pretty ruffle pattern. I'll send a picture of what my 1st row ended up looking like on Instagram. 😊 I have no idea what to do for the 2nd row, however, since this is the first time I've ever tried Tunisian crochet.😂

Kinda hoping the next pattern is from it so you can get it over with, kinda not because I think you need a break from the mental workout!
(Also I’m wondering if “raise” isn’t just how they refer to working the basic stitch on the forward pass? Because sometimes they use words in ways we wouldn’t. Isn’t linguistic drift fun?)

I think this was said below but the first pattern is kind of a faux cable stitch pattern :) #2 is a lacey pattern #3 could probably use a 3 chain instead of a 5 in the second row. It makes a kind of faux bobble. Of the 3 I like the first the best even though the cables don't really stand out. I feel like there are probably far easier ways to get this effect other than these directions lol 😂

I'm amazed that you put up with that book as long as you did. Good riddance to it! Crochet should be enjoyable even when it's a bit challenging.

3rd pattern I reading it as: You put a hdc in the 2nd ch that you skipped. Then I think it wanted you to put a 2nd hdc in the last dc you worked. So it’s like an X with 2 hdc crossed on the front is how I envisions it. Edit. That picture indont see a cross and ball. That looked like a pen sketch.

If this book were mine, I would throw it into my fire pit and roast marshmallows over it. You're more patient than i am!

I'm shocked the book was in good condition and not chucked into the fire by the original owner!😂

The first Pattern is like a "bubble" pattern don't overthink. You make 2 complete rows of tunesien crochet (to forward, two back) the first stitch of row 3 is a normal simple stitch.* simple stitch in the next. Then you make a simple stitch in the same stitch but of the first row. Then its like at the end of the row. (Chain one, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook (the chain and the 2nd stitch))simple stitch Into the third stitch from the 2nd row. Repeat from *

For the first one you weren't working for the star you were working from the start of the row. It is easy to make that mistake.

.It seems that the French first attached the 'Tunisian', although they have also given us the popular term tricot crochet (tricot is French for knitting, appropriately reflecting Tunisian crochet's blend of the two fabrics, Uk google
