The way i really see it is those who use witch craft (fiona) have powers that are always available. That activate in an instant and need no form of preparation. Almost like being born with super powers. telekinesis, pyrokinesis etc. While those who practices voodoo (marie) don't have these instant available powers but through large scale rituals (the virility ritual scene form example) could accomplish things the witches couldn't. So depending on how a fight occured would determine the winner. If fiona ran into marie on the street, she most likely could over power her. But if marie knew what was coming and had time to prepare, she could use voodoo rituals that far outmatched anything a witch could do.

eh... you can argue that she tried to be one. But she was also totally vindictive. She betrayed the truce unprovoked. She also held on to her hatred of Delphine forever. Even after killing her relatively innocent family and cursing her with immortality and burying her alive. In both instances, her vindictiveness came back to bite her in the ass. Hank, who she used to betray the truce destroyed her tribe. And had she let go of her hatred of Delphine (regardless of what people think of her, it can't be denied that Queenie was making significant strides with reforming Delphine), and not continue her torment, Delphine could have been rehabilitated to the point that she let go of her hatred as well. In her own admission to Queenie she was getting better, I could see her eventually becoming one of those closeted racists. Instead, Queenie's betrayal as orchestrated by Marie, drove her to eventually kill Marie, and dooming both of them together.
She killed hundreds of babies, and tons of other people. Some deserved, others didn’t. She killed those two cops when she took the baby from the hospital and also 2 random innocent teens got hacked to death during her Halloween zombie attack

I have loved Angela Basset since Strange Days (see that movie - it was astounding and is still extremely topical). When I saw the AHS trailer with her, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange - I got an actual jolt of power on the masking scene.
Not every horror ends bleak, there are some that end on happier notes like it, dawn of the dead (1978), demons 2, night of the demons, dolls, candy man 2, scream 1-3, and Shaun of the dead .

This is also evident when he tells Nan there are treats on the other side for girls like her and when Queenie flipped through Marie's book showing him taking people to hell, and then taking people to heaven on the other side.
