ant veteran, in any branch who served on an overseas base that the US took over after WWII and well into the 1980s was likely exposed to asbestos as it was widely used in building constructioninshingles, siding, as insulation, wall board, plasters, ceiling tiles and more, contained asbestos. Jobs that required drilling or cutting into ceilings or walls would be exposed. scrbbing a wall or ceiling could release fibers. Asbestos was everywhere. *VA has recently been granting service connection for prostate cancer linked to asbestos exposure

We tend to agree with your assessment that asbestos was everywhere. We are not seeing increased asbestos claim approvals as you suggest, but we’re hopeful. The asbestos exposure claims can be tricky at times as direct exposure can be difficult to prove 40-50 years later.

You are correct, those magic words are great to see. The research in this area is growing. Here are some specific medical literature sources on the link between asbestos exposure and prostate cancer:

Unfortunately these hazardous substances are common on military bases, aircraft, vessels, etc. The harm from such exposures will likely be demonstrated over the next 20-30 years as the latency of symptoms is usually decades.
      All the best!

@@VADisabilityGroup Unfortunately too, we the people that served in the U.S. Military in the 1970's and 1980's will be DEAD AS A DOORKNOB by then. I wonder how many Disabled Veterans serving during the time's I mentioned here, had the same issue I have. They lost all my service records serving in the USS IWO JIMA-LPH-2 from Sept. 1977 to Jan. 1981. I reported for duty when the ship was Dry Dock for repair and Asbestos removal projects. Guess What? My claim was denied coz, I do not have the records. Is there anybody there kind enough to assist me in how to find out where my records are?

Military toxic exposures are becoming increasingly well-documented. These exposures definitely include asbestos. We anticipate a litany of litigation on these exposures in future decades. This is unfortunate.
