Hope my journey to making money from filmmaking helps you guys!
It has helped. Thank you.
This channel has convinced me that filmmaking is a viable career. Thank you.
Yeahh... not bad. But Just a tip: there's a huge difference in between the concept of "Filmmaker" and "Videographer". Making videos, doesn't means you are a filmmaker. Making films is such different than making regular videos... but definitely making videos every day keep you on training. Just remember Matti, Films is totally another world... bigger team to organized, harder work to do, and stronger difficult to get involved into the industry.
Hugs !!
Thanks for all that you do Matti! It's inspiring.
I started a business on last month. It's stressful not knowing where your income is coming from, but you gotta remember owning a business is a marathon not a sprint! You got this creatives!👊
“I feel like I’m stuck inside all day” did NOT age well lmaoo
not at all 😭😭
I definitely needed this video today, I’ve been spending so much money on camera gear recently...
Gotta put it to use then!
Matti Haapoja loved the video man I was locked in. Gonna put that CZcams channel tip to use and make a video rn! Thanks for the Wednesday inspiration
I know that. Spend 1000€ on new Cam and then the first client cancels the job!
Tobias Lorenzi That's the point he's making… Quit seeing individual clients as the be-all-end-all. There are way more opportunities besides random calls… Stock photos/footage, producing educational content, applying for salary positions with companies (definitely goes against the “be your own boss” “entrepreneurship” fantasy people cling to these days)… It's a solid video that addresses exactly the scenario you're venting about.
Buy Canon and watch 40 videos about Fujifilm XT4..... Thanks CZcams 🤣
I’ve been watching this channel (on and off) for a little over a year or so. It’s so good to see the progress and evolution of the channel. Great job Matt. Keep up the good work. This is a perfect example of what hard work can do.
Thanks so much 🙏🏻 means a lot
“I believe in you” is one of the nicest things you can say to someone 😊
I’m actually considering quitting my full time corporate job and doing photography/videography full time. This video was equal parts informative and inspirational. Thank you!
I was gonna say what's your progress and found out u just commented 5 mins ago😂
How's it went now ?
@@armaanbelim3188 well……it’s a year now 🤷♂️
Matti, I feel this is produced just for me. It's been a while since I watched one of your vids. You gave me so much advise to work on, I have been heads down producing having made 80 videos inside November. Increasing income would be very welcomed and give a boost to all the hard work! Great job.
That’s awesome. Glad to have you back 😊
"I BELIEVE IN YOU", that's huge. Thanks Matti, I need that. I really do.
Your little boy is absolutely ADORABLE! 💗
This really helped. I just started the process of registering my Trademark here in the US, and I've signed up as a contributor on stock footage sites. Thank you for the advice, man. After quarantine hit, I lost my job; I would find a new one, but I'm moving out of town in just over a month and so no one is willing to hire me. I'm using this as an opportunity to start making a living as both a musician/composer and filmmaker. Thank you again for the advice.
2:13 "I'm not really a big spender."
Matti bought a _$27,000_ Mac Pro.
I'm trying to start fresh in a new country, so yeah actually this was just the motivation I needed! Thanks man 😁
" I don't spend a lot" goes out and gets a $50,000 cheese grater 😂
These are great tips. One thing I would add, which you touched on a bit, is to leverage your talents. I have played guitar and bass for 18 years and I decided to create sound fx packs using midi synth, guitar, bass and foley. I will be releasing my first pack soon and being able to combine two of my passions, music and film, has been great and will hopefully be a great resource for filmmakers. Some tips on marketing digital products would be great. The toughest part is to reach your audience.
Perfect timing bro I’ve just started my channel took huge inspiration from you and peter! Would love to break into film making! Just back from Iceland man that country can be savage weather
But I managed to get a few videos up and on my channel
So much great information! Thank you for putting this out here. I'm definitely going to use a lot of your advice here.
For me, the BEST part of the video is Kai running around the corner excited to see his dad. As a father of kids who are now 22 and 18, I sooo miss those days. Soak every minute of it in Matti. They go too fast.
My girlfriend/partner and I worked on our first real brand, FILTHLAMB, last year with both a merch line and a CZcams Channel. Even though I have somewhat of a fanbase from my music videos and photography, it didn't really translate to a following here on YT. A year in, and dozens of videos later, and we're still only at 79 followers. haven't quite figured out how to break into a larger following yet. But this video is full of tons of great advice, and we absolutely plan to keep plugging away! Just found your Channel through Peter McKinnon's and you've definitely got a new fan!
Thanks for the advice Matti! You definitely inspired me to do the CZcams thing! I’m already a full time Freelance filmmaker & now CZcamsr. I also have a merch store but having another revenue income is never a bad thing! Great Video! 👍🏼🎥🎬
Jared Magers Yeah, I do graphic design and having multiple revenue streams is a must. Great channel btw Jared 👌🏼
Jeff Oz thanks man.. much appreciated 🙏🏼
Awesome channel dude I’m gonna throw you a sub! I’m just starting my channel now! Need to work on an intro for myself and maybe a logo
Dan Unplanned nice man! Congrats on starting a channel. Better late than never 👍🏼🎥🎬
Jared Magers thanks man only a hand full of videos up at the moment in Prague and Iceland but I’m working on it
I think u got it right dude. You need to definitely understand business in order to be your most creative. The primary reason we have struggle/starving artists is because they don’t know how to market themselves.
Something I read that changed my outlook on money was that in order to be truly free to do what you love you need to detach money from time. Meaning, even if you’re trading your time to make money doing the thing you love, you are still a slave to it and can never truly do it in the way you want. However if you made money regardless of the hours you put in (IE: investing, passive income, etc) then you truly free to pickup and put down your passion whenever u desire.
I started my yt channel cause you, Peter and Chris inspired me like A LOT! I mostly photograph but I want this too, really makes me happy when I see that people like what I put on, and even though people can’t see how much work goes into it, I’m always happy when I give my all :)
What a great feeling it is when Daddy comes home to get greeted by his son with so much excitement......I think it is one of the best feelings. Funny side thought my sons name is Kyson and I also call him Ky (Ki) for short. Great video and great tips.
This video is definitely for me. I often feel like being used as a creative person, doing bunch of projects without getting paid. I realised how much I haven’t been appreciating myself as a creator. Just if I knew how to use my talent to be my side income, I would be better dealing with those projects.
I‘m working part time for a church too, making videos and music, which is pretty cool! 😃 Working on building my own business too, making videos for clients and of course youtube... youtube is hard tho, takes so much time and no returns yet to pay anything but it‘s fun and i‘ll keep working and am pumped to grow it all over time! 💪
I too try to have this business mindset.
Im not a struggling artist anymore which is nice but still trying to figure out how to bring the whole operation to the next level.
Always value your opinion.
More business videos are always appreciated 🙏🏻
I am not so young, I am 58 years old, but I love photography very much and now I am dedicating myself to video. I don't have much experience, but I want to experiment. I follow you a lot and this will help me in achieving a first result. I want to make a short film, an interview with someone, an artisan. Something emotional. I want to do something new in my life. For years I have been making 3D images for catalogs. I need new horizons!
This the exactly the guidance & Motivation i needed right now. I am a beginner filmmaker frm India. Left my daily job to make videos. Just started my CZcams channel. Struggling to make money. Its so hard in India.thanjs Matti.
Very informative, thanks Matti
Wow! 🤩 This video is great. I learned so much!
Thanks for supporting all of creators worldwide Matti, such a lad. I'm trying to breakthrough and started my yt channel. Migrating from just photographer to all-around camera guy. 🙂 ✌️
Great video Matti. Love that you are showing Kai in these episodes. Family first, love it!
Just got through your first tip and i second that one so much! I have a salary gig shooting photos for a real estate team in my area during the week and freelance weddings on the weekend. Hopefully one day I’ll be on my own, but for now it’s going good!
This channel is MASSIVELY underrated! Under 1Mil subscribers, come on....Great valuable insight and detailed experiences information. Thanks Matti you are a hero!!!
Matti !!i had spent half of my day just watching your content and still ,i just have to say as a new guy getting into this world THANKS 🙏🏾
Thanks Matti! I've literally been searching for clients for a while now, especially because on of my part-time gigs is closing down, so. Time to hunker down and get this thing going!
This just popped up on my feed and thought I'd check it out since I just posted a video on "making money with videos" - from the point of view of someone who's not necessarily a film maker - but more of a content creator; and you're so right in terms of the digital landscape and how it's positively impacted the creative space. There's a lot of work available at all different skill levels, and I think it's so handy when practitioners / content creators make videos like this especially for those who may not know anyone in their circle whose doing it! The representation makes it so much more possible for anyone just getting started, and also provides an awesome example for the lifestyle attached to this way of making mulah :)
*The end is awesome Man!)*
This are good and motivating words, the most powerful part is that your honesty shines through more than some kind of personal 'interest' that's also behind making this video
Hey Matt I started my CZcams Channel because of you and the whole Canadian crew (&PotatoJet) I wanted to thank you for the inspiration. I am a month into it and 5 episodes in and loving it!!!
Super inspirational words man! Started my channel last year with slow growth. No videos yet this year but content is coming. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for this, I am totally new to running my studio full time, it certainly is a challenge! This video helps.
Love these updates, I'm sure you do somethings different now than before.
remember myself searching for every tip that could help me when I was starting... Now my channel got into the stream last August and now have around 440K and 3.2K new fans per month... and still learning how to lift up myself here on this platform
LOVE THIS MESSAGE! Thanks Matti.
A video of Matt showing his editing process could be nice!🤟🏼
Exactly me too matti! I’m so excited to watch this video at work! I’m a beginner filmaker trying to go full time with my twin brother. Toronto winters rough 🥶 inside playing fortnite
Hahah were the same!
Matti Haapoja 😂🙏 spring filmmaking in Toronto will be insane though 🎥 🔥
Thanks, Matti
Waving across the lake to you from Rochester NY. Thanks for putting this up, I just started and still working out what it is that my focus is going to be. CZcams channel is almost up and will be a Timeline of how I got started and what I am learing.
Thanks for the work tips! Thats empowerment hearing i believe in u! 😎
Honestly dude, this right here is inspirational. I'm living in the corporate video world right now, and would love to finally start doing freelance work now that I've finally got my A7Riii. Appreciate all the great tips, my man!
Matti... your videos are always helpful and your effort to help is also supportive. Thank you! This video though just didn't fit... it seemed to maybe have a place when a person is in a state of survival? But, all I can say from all my years of freelancing, that if you don't keep a tight focus - life's constant tornado will wipe you out. Focus and intense focus, which often comes due to pain - creates good results.
I'm going to do my first wedding video for a friend later this summer. Been watching a lot of you and Teppo's videos trying to prepare.
Same as Joey ... I just started not long ago, going thru online classes at NYIP been spending a ton of money on gear, very cool to hear about the humble beginnings definitely inspiring to get my amateur ass out there and put in the work
Super awesome video. Always feels good when creators help creators out to grow. Always on point Matti.
I dropped out of college and now I have no idea what I'm gonna do, I studied graphic design and my struggle is to what kind of design I wanna focus on, and I also love photography/filmmaking/animation and... I guess I gotta start with something, see how things role and hope for the best. Thanks for the video Matti, always get some value from your insights
It's 2023, how's it going...
Yes, totally hits home after creating nearly 120 videos on youtube and a handful of audience. But thank you for the tips and all the best to those out there on the same journey
Thanks Matti, been following you since Travel Feels, watched you and Peter grow, dope squad, starter office etc.... Thanks for this video, and being so transparent - wish there was more of this. Needed the 'atta girl' today. Cheers
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS! Please make more money related videos in the future Matti!
I’m a drummer and I learnt a lot with your video for my cover videos! And now it’s interesting to see how other artistic fields have the same kind of options to find money. As a musician, I find there is a lot of similarities with filmakers.
Been feeling so stuck recently so I definitely needed this...so inspiring man. Thank you Matti!
Shari. Me too. I just find it super hard to relate to him. Love his content though, but I prefer getting to know others in the same boat as me in the comment section :).
Perfect timing as I think more and more about all this. New ideas and thoughts to get after it and maybe find a way out of the day job grind! Thanks Matti! Cheers!
#tyler you look so dope when you slides down but intensely your nervous and fells like fear factor vlog.. i like that clip you did bro..
Awesome video’Matt, really liked it 🙌🏾🎥☺️
Thanks dude 🙌🏻
This is all so helpful man. I really appreciate your content and support!!! You are an incredible mentor!!!!
Thanks so much dude!
Great Matti, I'm a beginner film maker and I hope one day that I can make some money on something. I agree, I would also shoot a big tree coming down. Any day. :)
These are really good tips! I’m in the process with a friend to start our own filmmaking business in NC. It’s not easy and we hope our dreams and goals are reached!! 🔥
Thanks for this man! Some serious VALUE. Definitely what I needed with getting started myself with making videos and creating
Hey guys, what do you think to my beginner vlogs/videos?
I need to try one of those one wheelers some day.
One of my favorite types of making money is by building up a community of "super" or highly dedicated supporters and then offering them something that will provide value for sum of money. It's a win/win.
Yeah 2020 is bringing lots of companys that want to start showing the world their business by doing some videos or photografy work but those tips and life experience as much as i love them and feel their usefull, i cant really apply on a daily bases because the economy in my country is complety destroyed and no one will pay you or worse they'll tell you that you shouldnt charge o charge very little for your work as a filmaker/creator, they dont even see it as a real job, really hard here in argentina
Bring back the vlog! Good video Matti
Oh man I’m soooo tempted
Thank you for the video Matti!!! I needed to hear that advice from my awesome guy! Thank you!
Thanks for the speech , I was feeling down and after watching felt better , need more such talks !
It's pretty difficult. I got one of those internal corporate jobs five years ago.
It was pretty good, I didn't love the content I was making but I was being paid well for what felt like a very secure job with a large company. I was travelling around Europe to visit other offices, I had a lot of creative control.
But then Last May I was made redundant. The team I was attached to was struggling with internal reorganisation. Suddenly video becomes a "nice to have, not a need to have". I spent a month asking almost every single manager in the company if they could find room for, me, but every single department had overheard the year before and had no spaces. And so I lost my well paid video job of 5 years, all of the gear and support I had access to through that job.
I've tried to go freelance but it's SO hard, it's so much about who you know, and what you have in your portfolio. My corporate job didn't care very much about these internal video, so everything was 'fast and dirty', pretty much the same formats, I was never given the time to explore outside of that. SO my portfolio is not where I want it. I don't really have connections, and half the time I'm scared to take my camera outside on my own incase I'm mugged.
Sorry to hear that! How are thing for you now?
Great tips for people starting out, everyones gotta make money somehow!
Hey matti
cant believe am early for this vlog Soo happy
You are always an inspiration Love your works
Thank you so much 😊 🙌🏻
Dude your videos are very sharp and one of the best out there 👍
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Matti Haapoja you’re welcome brother 😊
Great video Matti, not only inspirational but informative and true as well! Much obliged! keep up the good/hard work!
On CZcams the hardest part is not being yourself . It’s easy for some people to be wholesome but I feel like you have to talk , look and act a certain way for youtube to even give you 1% of love . If I don’t watch one of your videos matty - youtube shoves it down my throat for 7 days until I give in . They also recommend videos of yours , I’ve already seen .. not saying you don’t work hard but filming is the easy part , the edit is where you lose days and you have mat for that . I think you have no idea what a struggling artist is . Watch CZcams shove this comment in the abyss . 😂
I feel like you are the big brother I never had. Love you man ❤️
great video again!
thanks Matti!
I like that you started the video off with that one wheel thing so I didn't have to watch any more. all I needed to see
This video is so helpful, thank you for sharing!
I definitely need to see that tree-cutting-down video
Hahah I wonder if I could find it
Oh man, you can make $1000/month on stock footage? This could totally save my ass!
OMG
Great advise thank you Matti
Man. Watching this makes me so motivated! :) Great video Matt!
Spring time.... Meanwhile here in Calgary, snow and -17 this coming weekend #SMH
Oh gosh no 😂
Not excited for this weekend either in Moose Jaw SK.
The beginning is very hard. I am now at that point and it am think witch way I have to go. Thx for your insights.
Yea man but it’s also so exciting! Enjoy it even tho I know it’s easier said than done
ALL good Videos starting with the One-wheel!!
Well thanks a lot Matti, I could relate to it. Being a creative person but not able to capitalize is the worst feeling one could ever get.
hi Matti, great info. Hope more people see it and this idea of gradual start.
Amazing video Matti! This brings a new vision to how I'm gonna handle my channel. Started thinking of selling presets but I'm gonna think about expanding that to other things, some mentioned in your video! Cheers!!!
I am in the baby shoes and it's really hard to get ahead. Especially with a full time job and a family at hand but I always feel so inspired by watching your videos :)
Thank you Matti! Needed this for sure!
Thank you Matti! This video was very informative. I am enjoying a lot of your content!
Appreciate your passion. ☀️☀️
I need money for my gas and girlfriend haha. But I started freelancing about half a year ago and my business just keeps growing like crazy. I’ve done videos for at least 15 businesses now and 3 weddings. So good
Happy Birthday Matti :)
This content is so motivating to watch! Needed this right now. Thanks
