If you want to get your son a modern "classic" game, then you can get him Sonic Mania. Team Sonic Racing is also a very fine kart racing game like a Mario Kart, but I don't think the other two are available on Switch. Sonic Colors was a good game at the time and recently released on the Switch, but the port was panned for having a bunch of game breaking glitches. I don't know if those were ever patched.

David Cage is pretty infamous in the games industry. To be fair I actually enjoy Quantic Dream games, though admittedly if Cage could just settle for a single character (the detective) each time they'd be objectively great. STOP MAKING MULTIPLE CHARACTERS, DAVID CAGE. Every time I play one of the games I have to slog through the random girl and guy sections to get to the only one I actually enjoy -- and all the Cagesque bad writing? Those characters. Connor's story was great, it spawned a million memes.

The only people who were excited for it were fans of the original and they've been alienated from the gate

That was a big let-down I don't really care about a culture war or whatever. Don't try to make this critique bigger than it is.
