Great vid. Exact same issue on my 2011 A3 and your vid put me straight on the problem. Blower up and running again in 15mins. Thank you!
Edit: Just wanted to add a heads-up. Years on, the fault has come back several times [the bottom bearing also seizes a bit]. You can access and lube this by popping the motor out of the plastic bowl after compressing the three rubber mounts with a flat headed screwdriver.
WARNING: If you need to unplug the airbag switch wiring for better access, don't do it without keeping the ignition off, then switching the passenger air bag off first [better to not disconnect it though!].
I forgot to do this and ended up with the airbag warning light on the dash which won't go out without a scan tool to erase the error code. MOT looming, this dopey mistake just cost me £37 for the Ancel VD500 which sorted the airbag light. The cheaper scan tools won't erase this error code.
Hope that helps.
Superb thanks - same job is due on my son's A3 Quatro - Haynes itemised the process but this is really clear - also the 40A fuse was OK so going to have to do some minor Audi surgery. 7 mins well spent!
5 star video, just had this issue, I'm no mechanic however followed the video and had the same issue. Saved me a small fortune during hard times. Thank you 👏
An absolute gem of a video! After watching it, it was stupid not to try! Mine had the same issue, got it working again within 15 minutes. Made my day, thank you 😁
Important tip.
If the fan is stiff and after turning it a few times it starts working again.
Before putting it back in. Use some 3 in 1 lubricant and put some drops onto the top of the bearing, let it soak in, then spin the fan by hand until it feels nice and light. Then should be good to put back in the car.
If you dont lubricate the bearing, there are chances it will seize again.
Then again, a new fan is about £45 off ebay.
The 3 in 1 oil has worked for me.
Murder putting the glove box back in ! Thanks mate you saved me a lot of time with this.
Thanks for this...
Just bought An 08 A3, n needs a few bits doing. This was one of the jobs...
10 mins for a complete novice, after watching your video....

Thanks a lot for posting this, same problem here, gave it a little WD40 as well, helped a lot 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lifesaver, just did this and got mine working again, toasty warm car now on a cold January day, many thanks!!
To add to the positive comments, I too tried this and it worked straight away, I did spray abit of wd-40 in, and may end up changing the fan if I need to, but at least I know how now!
Thanks!!!!
Tried it an it worked out well just like this video.
May God almighty bless you and your family.
Nirrio (Audi breakers) wanted £200 to put in a 2nd hand blower for me.

Brilliant video mate! You’ve saved me a small fortune, many thanks!
Thats been a right minute I’ve seen your channel. Hope to see more of the VW van and MR2. Good to see you again.
Great Video!
I had same problem reoccured, so changed to new one, and the motor works just fine now, but no air coming out from all the vents! (Tried everything) what could be the issue here please?
Thanks for the video. Very helpful, lucky for me I had the same problem the fan was a bit stiff, a clean with the air line and refitted. Fingers crossed it will carry on working now.
Cheers mate your tips are amazing 👏 never thought I could tackle a job like that but tackled it first attempt after watching your vid 👍
Nice one 👍
Very good video; many thanks!
More on the van please Lee

Thank you sir! 10 mins & job done 🤌
Hi. Great video! Before I start making access to replace one of the two components. Would you agree with me in saying i have a faulty control switch. It only works on speed setting 4 so that proves the fan is getting power. It’s either OFF or MAX rate.
Brilliant, same problem as yours, followed the instructions and it works, Thankyou.
Brilliant video
Top man I'll be trying this very soon 😁👌🏻
Great, I had the same problem, I found a label from manufacturers inside the blower, it works just fine but now I have a steady red light on, took apart 3x can't find anything out of order, do you have any suggestions?
Cheers buddy 👍
Cheers for this one lad
Lucky escape that Lee. Good to have you back :)
Yeah right result. Expected to be buying a new one.
