Haha yes I see it as a hotel logo too 😂 god that price tho, I’m hoping at some point to get a delay with MN3005 chips, I almost did last year buying a 1983 Dm2 but opened it up..nope missed that chip by a year. The independent controls of it in stereo is pretty wonder, it sounds really beautiful 👏 they did a good job with this. Is that divisions section with the secondary switch control possibly could relate to the degrees of spread of the frequency of the stereo modulation? That’s my guess

Wow, more expensive than I thought. I think it's the only true stereo BBD delay out right now. The new Boss ADM is mono in/stereo out only. Having said that, I'm not sure which pedal I'd consider the "king of analog pedals", but I'm happy that BBD pedals are not only being made, but being innovated. Thanks.

i think pedals at this price are going to force more people to just pick up modelers...so imo, they are kinda shooting themselves in the foot !! ++ does the audience really give a 💩 about analog or tell the difference!!
@@YesItsReallyKeiththere’s a tonal difference between digital and analog pedals and there does seem to be a movement of folks preferring analog. I personally now look to go analog when I can.

The modulation phase would be an offset for the lfos modulating the delays?
That way when one lfo is going down, the other one is going up, to modulation is going opposite ways left and right, creating wider sounds.
With the same phase, bothe delays pitch the same way, less interesting.

I'm afraid to look inside that box. The Maxon AD-999, made shortly after Panasonic discontinued 4096-stage BBDs, used eight 1024-stage chips. All BBDs require a trimpot to adjust the DC bias of the signal going into the chip. Some, though not all, will also use a balance trimpot on the complementary outputs of the BBD to cancel out the clock noise as much as possible. As a result of this, and what else it had to do to get the BBDs to "line up" in time, the AD-999 had 25, yes *25* trimpots inside, all of which had to be adjusted by a human being. The Xvive MN3005 chips that Walrus is using are *NOT* cheap, but the trimpot adjustments required to coordinate 8 of them, likely adds not insignificant labor costs to its production, just as it did for the Maxon delay.

@@Dolle_Man My point is that, especially these days, long analog delay entails more labour costs than digital. The AD999 is kind of the worst-case scenario, but I'll wager the Meraki starts to approach it, in terms of how much post-installation twiddling is required to have it operating optimally. Especially when the price-point is high, the expectation is that noise levels will be acceptable for studio use, and that always entails more trimmers and more trimmer twiddling, which translates into higher labour costs.
I love early Walrus pedals, but I think I’m going to save up for the TC 2290p that has ducking capabilities.
After talking with Walrus if you use the delay in mono and in Series you use all 8 chips. For a vast majority of us mono is still the stage standard at most events and I could see how this would be a great sounding mono dual delay and be one of the best choices for those running a mono rig. I heard Portland Andy demo this yesterday and my first thoughts were "Oh, this sounds different". Watching and listening to this video confirms that: this is a pro's pedal, rich and lush and meant for the studio and the road. Inspiring is the perfect adjective because I wanted to hear more from it. The price is irrelevant, _this_ is quality.

Stereo is very underrated as delay... I always use my pedalboard in mono, with mono delay, but maybe I should rethink my choices, at least when recording. I can record from my Boss IR-200 as an amp, split my two delays, or just use a stereo delay and get some good stuff in. Buuuut, then the question is what I'm doing musically, what type of songs I'm writing and how good they are. Still, stereo delay is really cool, I get inspired just listening to this messing around in the demo.

Stereo in and out, this one is made for the synth players imo, I think this beast will be more expensive the more people are understanding it's one of a kind. I rather have this than 3 different digital emualtions. the 8 MN3005 chips alone are setting you 200 euros back. Gonna use it for studio use.
Well, i rather save some bucks and get a Strymon, or the Empress Delay.
But for those who want Stereo+BBDs in the most expensive form it's certainly great.
Great video!. Stereo was invented in 1931, electric guitar in 1937, and by 1945 multi-track stereo was invented. Home stereos came out in the mid 1950's and by the 1970's they were common in homes. So, here it is 50 years later and 99.9% of the gear market is mono only? Seems we are getting stereo products in piecemeal at really big $$$$, nice product but not at those prices.
Budgetwise for live use it is kind of a overkill - but for studio use it seems to be even more versatile than the Boss DM101 - due to true stereo..

@@onenotesolo256 of course it is, (and GAS-wise guitarists can never have enough pedals 😅), but for live purpose I prefer a mono delay like the "cheaper" Chase Bliss Thermae ( because I don´t play stereo)
@@mofateam1 yep I hear you. I usually run (‘TPS’) wet/dry when I can get away with it, with mono as plan B. The Meraki has prompted me to rewire the board so that I can run either of those or stereo depending on how many amps I can bring and what mood I’m in!

I read the longest delay time on this is 1.2s, however with the time at max in this video it seems way shorter than that to me? Maybe it's the division settings...🤔

As soon as someone comes up with a unique sounding hit record with this pedal, sales will skyrocket and hopefully the price drops. Sort of like what happened with Hendrix and the Wah pedal or Gilmour or The Edge with echo in general. That is just me wishful thinking out loud. Walrus Audio is excellent.

What a coincidence! There is a word in Greek with exactly that spelling and meaning! ΜΕΡΑΚΙ (yes in Greek P is the latin R and Π is the latin P). But it's not pronounced meh-ru-kai but meh-rah-ki exactly as you pronounced it with your German accent my friend. This could be the ERASMIAN pronunciation the latin world uses to read Greek for convenience. For those not familiar with ERASMIAN It's as if someone would read the english word "thought" as ...tho-oo-gt hahaha.

For that kind of money it should be able to be used as 2 separate delays.

I have found that with a stereo set up, if you turn off one amp, you can hear both delays in the other amp but need to tweak the settings bit. Otherwise I would run it into something like a Goodwood Audio Ouput, which has summing.
Ya had me by the balls until you mentioned maybe getting triplets on this. Heck, I can’t even handle our twins, let alone getting triplets on top! 😂 On the other hand, buying this device would force us all to starve, thus simplifying the effort. 😅

Dr. Google tells us, that meraki is a greek word: Meraki, μεράκι, literally means "essence of ourselves". Pronounced something like meh-RAH-key (or for German speakers me-RA-ki)
so I did say it correct and Walrus got it wrong
If outputs do not have their own independent dry/wet pots going from KILL DRY to FULL DRY gradually, than this is NOT a Stereo pedal. And these outputs do not have that very important option. This pedal is going to put the DRY signal always on BOTH outputs, Left and Right, meaning that DRY sound is going to be in the CENTER. For example, guitar amplifier is going to always be infront of a kick drum, center. This is done by designers who are not musicians who actually play on live stages with a band, so they do not know how STEREO FIELD is created.

Not all “great tools” are expensive. You can find great tools to make music for an affordable price. You can make your music on a less expensive delay pedal or processor.
But some people have the means to afford this. Just like cars: not everybody can afford to buy a Ferrari, but that doesn’t mean people of average means can’t drive.
This pedal has expensive parts in it. Should Walrus make the pedal for $200 and then not make any profit off of selling it?
Go to a recording studio and you’ll see compressors and preamps and microphones that cost $10,000…EACH. Recording studios will buy a pedal like this and offer it to their customers to use when recording. And some people (like doctors and lawyers) might buy it for home use. That doesn’t mean you can’t make good music.
I will also say “good job, Walrus”. It is the ultimate analog delay pedal, and I may even save my money up for a year and buy one myself.

I am glad Walrus made this pedal. And I think it’s actually cheap if you consider all of the cost involved for them to make it.
You could buy the chips and electronics and build your own stereo analog delay pedal and it won’t cost you $600

I got real excited when Boss came out with that new analog delay pedal that is supposed to be stereo. But it’s not. It’s pseudo stereo. 1 input. Still a cool pedal, but this new one from Walrus is really everything that Boss pedal wanted to be.
I love the DMM modulated delay sounds for my clean tones. Right now, I run a TC 1210 for chorus and I get a nice Echoplex ping pong delay from an Eclipse, and then to top it off, I run my Caitlinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe in mode 5, which is DMM and gives me that beautiful modulation. It’s mono though. I want that modulation in stereo, and then I can dump the 1210 or use it for spatial expander, put my BED back in Echoplex mode, and use the Eclipse for pitch shifting. This new Walrus pedal will give me the sound I love, and free up some gear for other things.
Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s also the only pedal on the market that does what it does in true stereo.
