    To me it really looks clear that Forever Young would have won the race. Sierra Leone hammered him when he was starting to pull ahead of Sierra Leone. His stride was way better. Sierra Leone then hammered him repeatedly and the jockey on Forever Young had to fight like hell just to keep his horse straight. Sierra Leone was a clear DQ and the stewards dropped the ball.

      Stewards cannot take the win away from a horse that is not involved in a foul. At best, the finish positions of Sierra Leone and Forever Young could have been switched had a foul claim been lodged, but there is no basis to punish Mystik Dan.

      @@chuckphu7581 I agree. The stewards probably should have done that on their own, but the Derby has an unfortunate tradition to ignore fouls that would have otherwise been enforced in lesser graded races. I think this was a case of Forever Young NOT making a foul claim, and the stewards deciding on the basis of a LACK of objection.

    Todd is correct. Forever Young at one point was six wide, while Mystic Dan was a Mine That Bird! In the stretch, the narrator says Fierceness was lugging into Forever Young, he meant Sierra Leone. Fierceness was never a factor in this race; he ran for about the first quarter but faded badly under the pressure. It appears that many mainstream handicappers make the common mistake of focusing too much on Beyers and speed. Speed is just one factor that makes a winner. Ability to carry speed at the 11/4 distance, ability to overcome adversity, ability to pass horses, etc., all are important in winning. Before the race many would say that if Fierceness runs his best race he wins; they were saying this based on two high Beyer figures, as if Fierceness can turn on and off how he runs a race. Hopefully that line can be put aside. It is clear that Fierceness needs to have the race break his way; that is, to get to the lead and have a loose on the lead run. Also, the Florida Derby and the Holy Bull did not have the strongest runners. Give credit to Mystik Dan, who showed grit in winning at the wire; but Forever Young, on many levels, ran the best race.

      Couldn't have said it better. All my longtime handicapping friends, 40yrs plus, when they saw the speed figure of Softness they were all in on the miler, he can go longer if running alone. He did cost FY the win IMO. The initial shove by SL, on the outside, angered Forever Young. You can see the horse get mad and shove back. Forever Young was a pissed off horse from that first shove and through to the finish line. He was running mad. He deserves another shot. I would wait for the Belmont or the Travers. I never liked the Preakness and FY deserves a little rest after that fight.

Almost killed War of Will and certainly would have severely injured the jockey had Willy gone down. That was a rightful disqualification….thank goodness. I was going with everything to Sierra Leone, I followed him from the start and was second to last in the first quarter of a mile, Tyler made his calculated race and was already two lengths behind Forever Young in the last three furlongs, but unfortunately, when entering the straight At the end he attacked FY and they both collided for about a hundred meters. Here the fault was not Tyler Gaffalione as many say in comments, but SL himself who since his debut had this tendency to charge inwards from line six or seven until going down to two. That's how horse racing is, I think Sierra Leone won without any setbacks but you have to be a good loser and congratulate the winner Mystic Dan.

    Thats the derby for ya, best trip won but not the best horse. What I learned this year is you can't dismiss a horse based on pedigree if it has the speed figures. Japan finished 3rd and 5th so from now on they have to be taken seriously regardless of their past form.

    • @laurenurban3942
      @laurenurban3942 Před 26 dny +1

      That’s the whole point of it being a Derby. Any horse has a chance in the large field. The race was not designed for a favorite to win. It was a race run for anyone to win. That’s was a derby is all about. It was copied from England’s big derby race. People were expected to bring their best 3 year old to run against other good 3 year olds. The race is never a given and it shouldn’t be. They need to leave it the way it is with the large fields.

    • @aman2340

      america's problem doesn't lie in the races it lies in the way they are breeding derby horses... they are all short sprinters 5f-8f none of them can make a decent mile and 1/4 or mile and half.. they are all jumping up in trip as they learn on the job.. back 20 years ago horses came down in trip for the derby they could run 12f handy... thats what forever young's type is 9f to 12f.. its a breeding 2 year olds problem a short horse problem... america use to have some of the most amazing race horses that could run over 8-14f and run on dirt or turf and sand... they are a shell of itself now.

    jockeys fault sierra l lost the race....he lost time rubbing up against another horse...if he would have went wider and made his move sooner he would have won easily

    You keep harping about Sierra Leone, for godsake it was FY who bore the brunt of it 🤷🏻‍♂️. Any more and SL would have been riding piggyback on FY.

      We know this: we are pointing out SL's erratic trip to demonstrate how BOTH horses were compromised. I really don't get where you're coming from. Sorry. Thanks for the input.

    Mystik Dan wins the race and Resillance was the best horse. That statement doesn’t make sense

      I was repeating what the CZcams/handicapper said. His statement regarding Resilience didn’t make sense at all

    Don't blame Sierra Leon for the win loss it was the negative actions of the jockey on catching Freedom HE purpose ly road his horse that closely in an ef😢fort to slowdown Sierra who is byfar the best horse in the race

      WTF ru talking about? You watched the race and came up with that? Sierre Leone came up into him repeatedly! They showed it a million times!Leone has done that in every race! Its comes over to the left in the stretch! Are u blind? Lol

      Obviously you have never seen racing action. He has a paddling action, it reminds me more of Standard Bred running action than a Thoroughbred. SL has shown a tendency to drift in the stretch. I don't believe he can run straight.
