I work from home in BC Canada and plan to move to move to Florida in the future and your videos have really helped me with that decision. Good stuff!! I appreciate the consideration at the ramp. My wife and I have it down to an art. Once It’s my turn it takes less than a minute and a half to get her launched. Yanking it out takes about two minutes. These people that deflate their toys, pack up their crap on the ramp get me fuming. So thank you for the time dedicated to courtesy.

    • @briankeevan8134
      @briankeevan8134 Před 2 lety +7

      Exactly!! People that pull up with nothing ready to launch/trailer their boat, taking up a slip for 20+ minutes are rude.
      It’s a common courtesy to our fellow boaters to have your rig ready when you get to the ramp.👍🏻

    Good to see that someone else is as " particular" as I am when it comes to the boat. My boat is as clean as my house, maybe cleaner. Some people's boats cost times what they paid for their house. For me , it's a matter of pride and your going to get max dollars out of your rig if you ever decide to sell. Good tips for beginners!

    This guy is a damn American legend. The courtesy to other boaters at the dock is such a nice thing to do. I wish everyone pulled over on the side of the road and prepped their boat like him. Also, he handles an 8 ton, 40 foot boat like it’s a dam Toyota Corolla in an empty Walmart parking lot. Don’t be fooled everyone, he has WAY more skill than 98% of humans on earth. This guy is not average lol..

    It's nice seeing an owner taking such good care of their boat. I Captain owner/operator boats for the last 30 years, 80' to 120' range, they could give a shit less. I usually only do relocation's or run the boats when they have a full cruise schedule. I get to the boats at least 3 day's ahead of time and do nothing but cleaning....

    😄I just saw your video. Thank you for sharing this important information reference what it takes to get the boat ready. All we see is the fishing part and the boat in the ocean having fun. But the preparedness takes time, like you say fueling, buying snacks and loading the boat, buying bait and so on. It is just that is exhausting. However the payoff is great when you see your family or friends in total enjoyment. Thank you so much for the info.

      Gregg just because this video shows the hooks one way does not mean it's the best. Obviously you have proven that. Personally I've placed them both ways and despite towing for decades, never had a problem. Although the trailer in this video is different then the one my Contender is on, mine also has a cable with smaller hook in the event of a runaway trailer when the cable is pulled by vehicle, the trailer brakes are activated.

    Love the video - informative. I remember the fear of the ramp - this dock the ramp falls off at the concrete edge at low tide - dont use this one for a boat of x size - all the stories made it nerve racking. Then you add in a monster like this! Boy was it quiet for unloading. Such a scary time on a busy weekend! DOES A GASOLINE STATION LIMIT you - if you wanted to fill up 500 gallons? Think how many cars that would be!

    I also appreciate that you wear a mic so you are clearly heard throughout the video. One question I have, because I don’t know anything about this subject is that you mentioned cruising to the Bahamas. Are you able to do that in your boat from where you live? If you haven’t already, perhaps a video on that and the preparedness needed for a trip like that?

    Great tips and well put together video... Might be redundant or obvious, but don't forget 4WD for the boat ramp! Too many guys sliding their trailer AND truck in after they forget to put it in 4WD.

    Clay, Good video. It really show cases how much planning it takes to have an uneventful day on the boat. I totally agree with the ice maker, such a great convenience. I do wonder sometimes if it may be cheaper to buy ice. Ice machines are expensive and use a lot of water and electricity. But the convenience is worth it. My add to your video is something that is so important, check lists! I have different ones based on what I am going to do that day. A checklist for diving, fishing or just boating. They are printed and in the garage and I can tell you that sometimes as I review them it reminds me to put something else on the boat that I had forgotten.

      Great input! Since we use ice so much we make our money back for its energy and water consumption. Something to think about is buy one and keep it turned off until you’re ready to use it.

    Wish the gas prices were what they were when you made this video. You have to wait for those long boat trips for a while. Subcribed. Thanks for your awesome videos.

    Great video as always. I just want to add one comment... especially in South Florida you must be careful with a boat and trailer of that size at the ramp. Many ramps drop off.. ends and drops deep especially at low tide. You can get stuck easily and I have seen where that cause caused trucks to end up sunk. The get stuck then slip and slide then sometimes end up in the water.

    A great way to judge when it is floating. Just before you start to back in the water, put a couple of feet of slack in the strap. That will accomplish two things, 1) you will see it move just a bit when it is floating, 2) the slack will prevent boat from lifting the trailer and rear of the track, thus preventing you from being the topic of a CZcams ramp video and a very embarrassing call to your insurance company. Thank you for the video!
