Those "expert drivers" were most likely just ordinary conscripts ;)

Yeah, give an 18 year old the keys to a truck and that's what happens. During my service it was pretty common for trucks like that to do donuts on gravel parking lots and drive way too fast on country roads. Back then conscripts just sat on the bare bed with their equipment, stoves and all, and sliding about.

Let´s just say that in the early 2000´s I think it was a good thing that there weren´t video capable smart phones that much. But back then the cadre encouraged this type of action. I´m surprised that no one ever got hurt or trucks weren´t crashed, but it was a lot of fun. Actually some of the lieutenants were the worst, they pushed those trucks harder than we ever had the nerve for. And we really did try..

One thing you'll quickly learn not to do is complain about the cold.
If you complain out loud that it's cold within the earshot of an instructor, he will have ways to quickly warm up the entire platoon! 😝

I did my service in Finnish special forces back in the 90's and goes without saying 'twas very demanding - physically and mentally. Harsh conditions (close to -50 degrees celsius in winter), very, very long distance missions, skiing knee-deep in snow, heavy backbags, darkness, short days, no sleep, tired, thirsty, exhausted...just unbelievable. You wouldn't believe half of the stories, I tell you.
How to survive in those conditions, and how to keep on going, when you are virtually done? Well, it's all about attitude. It's all about what goes on inside your head. If you don't give up, then you're not done. And if you can laugh about it all, then you are really strong! Sense of humour is something that keeps us going. It drives away fears, tiredness, worries, etc. It gives us strength.

its totally normal that diesel engines make thick black smoke, some people find it fun to turn the screw on diesel fuel pump to give it extra fuel, that makes well.. a little more torque but not much help in actual driving, black smoke is unburned fuel..

The military truck drivers video made me remember, you should totally watch a short video "360 Turn with school bus what you see only in finland". You'll love it. Another version of the video is called "Bus Drifting Deja Vu", I like the song better fitting but the edit is just killer on the first one.
"Tell me if you've ever been to military" probably majority of your Finnish viewers. Since service is obligatory unless you get health relieved or do a civil service.

0:55 That's kinda fucked thought. You have this piece at the end of your rifle that stops the wooden bullet ("a blank"). But its not uncommon to for this piece to come loose and shoot out with deadly force. Sure, the chances are shooting blanks, it's all fun and games, but there's that 1 time in a million when someone is gonna die. What the dude is doing in the video is a crime, if this incident got investigated, he would be looking at jail time.

E-Sisu as seen in the beginning of the video are boring. Older Rasi 6x6´s were fun. Used to drift those a lot. High power, high revving things. Ten tons of fun. I was an NCO driver and trained a new generation of drivers. Fun times. At about 5-6 minutes the guys are playing with Masi (4x4) "force feed". Meant for cold starts where you can force a lot of fuel into the engine to help it start in cold weather. Also cuts the timing down, so it is safe but makes a lot of smoke. Rasi Cummins engines are a lot better at cold starts with high compression. Those are proper war machines. That Masi has a Finnish Valmet engine, not so great but domestic. I laughed at the end of the video, classic military shenanigangs. I have no idea why CZcams recommended your vidos, but your accent is quite fun to hear. Might be difficult for some non natives, but it sounds fun.

I feel like you would enjoy seeing "Taistelukenttä 2020" or in English "Battlefield 2020"

Propably not so funny but military slang was interesting.
Baltic herring casserole was called piikkilankaeste = barbed wire obstacle, I can't remember what was the official name of noppasoppa = dice soup, coffee was petrooli and a dessert kissel was called vääpelin räkä = warrant officer's / sergeant major's snot.

That part in 4:30+....that is what it looks like when good old engine starts in -20C - -30C :) Not pretty but it will start.
EDIT: And that black smoke i think comes from little extra juice. Burning oil and gasoline. You can see him putting gas and nothing comes out what with little extra "juice" it is just black smoke

    • @keksiman7203
      @keksiman7203 Před 9 měsíci

It's a diesel engine and the black smoke comes from putting a bit too much fuel in the engine (for better starting in the cold)

Fun stuff happened in NCO training. Most of the idiots were not let in there and after 6 weeks or so the hardasses who were to become officers in reserve were taken away. I'd not be surprised if the guy downhill skiing stairs turned out to be in NCO training barracks. Harmless silly stuff like that used to happen there after the official program of the day was over and the professional officers went home for the evening.
I guess this was back when before people brought computers in and started playing games in LAN and watching porm...
