@@KhmerSanjose you tell lies you don’t have any videos of your “son” on your page since you are Khmer (?) I get the honor of your parents I didn’t leave my mom until her last breath then I finally moved out of NY so I get the honor in our parents, but support this young man into finding who he is, it’s easy to get lost look at America don’t you see it? This comment has opened up a channel for ignorance you see that above comment? Talking about begging for a bowl of rice.
😏 sounds like this Caucasian girl I worked with who said Asian countries are filthy 👊🏽 my parents always boosted of how they missed Cambodia how beautiful it is. I am not fortunate at this time to save up enough money to visit or I would go I’ve watched videos of the vegetables that were harvested the carrots were so plump and orange the greens were so green not the same withered mess they sell here in America don’t get me wrong I’m thankful to this country but they left our people to die also. Khmer Rouge told my mom they’d kill her if she don’t cut her hair she said she didn’t cut it and was ready to die that night the Vietnamese came and broke up the Khmer Rouge camp my mom escaped. If I lived in Cambodia I probably be locked up with Theary Seng. If I won the lottery I’d build schools not casinos it’s work but why put our youth in gambling rings when they can go to school and become anything they want to be. The Chinese did it for their kids why can’t our children of Cambodia have the same opportunity? Why is this young man criticized for searching for his Cambodian soul?

I really enjoy your interviews with various people. It really helps me appreciate as a Khmer-American. Or… How my little brother would phrase it, a “Khmerican” to know and acknowledge other peoples’ walks in life. It is a sight to behold. I would like to retire or live in Cambodia one day. Currently, I’m planning to travel to Cambodia on April 2025 for Khmer New Years. I love that you’re able to ask him the estimated cost to live comfortably. 10K USD sounds about right for a year, but I remember owning a piece of land for farming alone is like $300s. So… I think you can stretch your dollars better, if you spend or invest in the right things that are worth while. It’s like that one phrase. “Give a man a fish, it will feed him for a day. Give a man a fishing rod, and it will help feed him for a lifetime.” Anyway… I find it wild, but not fully surprised that the one you interviewed is adopted by white/German descent parents, because at a young age… I wanted because white parents. But, it’s only because… I was probably white washed a bit and Americanized. Which is a common problem for most Asians who are raised in the USA. I find it fortunate, but yet tragic in a way. Due Cambodia’s past… At least he didn’t have to live in a time of war. When he mention we live in a time peace, not wanting war. It made my heart feel at ease. I honestly don’t like war, but if it’s to prove a point… I will fight the good fight. What I love the most is he is finding his roots. I think we have our own battles of self-discovery. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you for continuing these interviews. They have really inspired me to come back to Cambodia again. ❤

Good luck with your future. I would never move back to live there due to horrific past.
I came to America back in 1979 to seek for freedom and many opportunities.
I visit the country every year to heal the past since my retirement from US.
Most of my family members did not survive the genocide as we were forced to move out of Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields and canals.
I like to visit the country because it was my birthplace and to see my sole surviving sister who still lives there.
America is a Free country with many opportunities and many people are still want to come here today. Again, I'm not going back. Sharing is caring. Peace ✌️

It's so refreshing to see young Khmer Americans wanting to reconnect with their roots. While people of all nationalities have been able to come and live in Cambodia, many overseas Khmers are still brainwashed by American Cold War propaganda passed down orally from generation to generation. Even though the Americans themselves have abandoned the lies, most Cambodians of the older generations have internalized the propaganda so deeply that they choose to live in a bubble of lies.

@@4maraaudio I am a Cambodian born woman whose experience parallels yours and probably many others. As a professional who understands trauma, the Khmer community have a quite a journey for healing. Your interview is important for the larger community to try and understand the perspective of why Cambodia will always be part of roots.
