  • In 1971, my best friend and future business partner, Rick Harper, and I were attending California Institute of the Arts. That year, we made our student film project about this revival, focusing our cameras specifically on Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel, one of the many epicenters where this spiritual movement was breaking forth. Our film production, entitled “Maranatha”, was done just prior to Calvary Chapel moving their services into their famous giant tent.
When viewing the feature film, Jesus Revolution, I felt complimented that during the end credits they actually used a number of clips from our student film.
I posted below a short 3-minute excerpt from our student production in which Pastor Chuck introduces one of their ocean baptisms at Pirate’s Cove. Even though the rest of the 30-minute film includes musical performances by Love Song, a drug addict’s testimony, Chuck sharing Jesus with college students, etc., I selected the ocean baptism as a highlight because, even without words, the baptisms convey the powerful spiritual climate that was happening back then.
We hope you go see “Jesus Revolution.” The revival of the 70s was a fabulous adventure to experience; it was a rewarding phenomenon to film; and as a feature film, it was a satisfying portrayal to re-live.

Thank you for sharing. I just watched the movie Jesus Revolution on Netflix a few days ago. I was born in the 70's on the east coast so I knew nothing of this. Very touching and profound movement. God bless!

Wish I was there, Christ was doing a work in mother's life in 1971 & my mom, dad & myself gave our hearts to Christ in October 1972

I was one of the kids Jesus saved using Greg Laurie. Chuck Smith grew up in my town, Ventura, CA, so a lot of us felt a special connection with him. My wife and I watched "Jesus Revolution" tonight - and it's the most-authentic Christan film I've seen. It relates the story of the Jesus Movement without coming across as "preachy". Even non-Christians will love it.

I came to Christ in the early 80s and Calvary Chapel was the only place where I felt real love from God and people.
