Nice to see you back Henry, really sorry to hear about your faithfull freind, hope your replacment is not to fancy!
Congratulations on the Squarespace sponsorship...youâve made it mate!
Shoot, Henry, no way, no more glorious Nikon! Hopefully it comes back to life, let us know! I'm happy to hear Squarespace is finally on board, long deserved! Top drawer photos mate! Keep us updated! đ
Ho no not great news for the D7200 and loved your comment on whether to laugh or cry... anyway every cloud has a silver lining. #newcameraday
Looking forward to seeing what you bought đ·
for everyone on the wire about buying a new camera. photographing lakes is what you need.
Dear Henry, just a couple hours ago I discovered your channel and felt really inspired by you using the nikon D7200 which I also use. Now I feel really sad that you wont be using it anymore in your videos. Whatever camera you gonna use in the future, I'm sure you'll make the most out of it. At the end of the day, creativity always wins.
I have an old D3100 with the kit lens, a bottom of the line long zoom and the 35 f1.8. Itâs cheap, really old, has awful dynamic range and itâs really not coolâŠ.but, the images have a real filmic magic to them. I was out this evening with my XT3 and a few, very expensive, XF lenses but my cheap Nikon kit wins for pure photographic image fidelity. The Nikon image files are just gorgeous and look more 3D.
@Adriel Tzu I got my D7200 on my 18th birthday and it was my first DSLR. To begin photography with, I think its a great camera. The only complain I have is no flip out LCD. Other than that I can manage. I will probably upgrade when I have the budget to.
Sorry about the Nikon. I loved seeing the Olympus come out, though :-) I went from Nikon full frame to the E-M1 Mark III and no regrets. Lighter gear, stunning pro lenses (the 12-100 is the best super zoom Iâve ever used, just stunning), and the E-M1 Mark III has up to 7.5 stops stabilization, up to 5 stop software simulated ND filters and 50 Mpix hand-held hi-res, no tripod needed. Shooting a dreamy waterfall photo hand-held at 1/5â is really something else and nothing I thought would ever be possible. Very underrated camera system for landscapes.
I fell though ice on a lake with my Hasselblad cm501. Even though I completely submerged, I never let go of that camera. I was so upset and pissed, I was able to climb back out with the camera and really never felt the cold. Sopping wet, I rushed back to my car to head home and dry out (both myself but mainly my camera). I had to have the lens rebuild, but the body was dried out and lubricated. It's been going ever since. Sorry about your loss Henry.
Sade to hear the D7200 is wet. Hope that drying didnt fails. All the best to U. Greetings from Berlin. "Let's craig on!" ;-)
The Oly E-M1 Mk II / III is my main camera for all purposes, stills and all. Fantastic system!
Mike what's the difference between the OM D EM I Mark II and Mark III ( I'd love to hear your take on it. I'm thinking of buying into the system! Thanks for any advice or observations you could share. je
@@jerryeisner1 the Mk III has a couple more whistles and bells, three of which I regularly use: live ND, hand-held high res (the Mk II only does tripod high res) and star auto focus. Because I use these features it was definitely worth the upgrade for me. Not a single day of buyer's remorse on either camera. Great selection of glass for landscape too, having access to Oly and Pany m43 lenses.
@@MikePageKaltenberg thank you so very much for the comparison!! You hit the nail on the head! I too would love having and using the extra features in the OM I D MIII!! I Very much appreciate your help. Je
Sorry to hear about D7200. You asked about meaning of OMD.
O stands for Olympus, M stands for Maitani and D is Digital. Maitani was a designer who worked for Olympus around the 1950s? and was with Oly for many years. He was very respected and responsible for many Olympus innovations. As you may know Olympus has been the innovator responsible for much of what we now take for granted ie mirorless.
Sorry for you beloved camera.
It happened quite the same for me, but with only rain so I understand how you can feel
But As you mentionned, it's a good oportunity to change it now ;)
I'm sorry for you camera...
Oh mate, gutted. By weird coincidence, I took my bag out the car the other day thinking it was zipped upâŠno. Camera and 17-70 lens went flying. 17-70 smashed and damaged beyond repair. The D7200? Two small scratches. Iâm sorry yours has gone to camera heaven. Iâd like to think the spirit of yours has somehow made itâs way to mine. Damn, good luck with your replacement đđ»
Mate, those files from the Olympus are consistently lovely.
Hi Henry, sorry to hear about the D7200..devastating! Some more excellent shots Henry, magic.
Thanks Michael - I was quite pleased with them :D
Bout time you got a new camera ,onwards and upwards ,embrace new tech , good luck
Henry I have dropped cameras but only dinged up the lens slightly. Never had one land in the lake.I would be heart broken.Hopefully I can learn from your misfortune. (Thank you!) Once again great video! Thank you for your enthusiasm and making us feel like we are right there with you. (That would be awesome!)
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! So sorry to hear about the camera Henry, you must of been gutted at the time. But onwards and upwards, Iâm already thinking whatâs he gone and bought? Another one the same? Full frame perhaps or even mirrorless? I guess Iâll find out next week.
Great to see the channel doing so well and being sponsored by squarespace đ
Oh no Henry I feel your hurt bro.
Well done, Henry. You're still coherent and positive. Chapeau! Love the images.....
For the Nikon, 'Oh dear what a shame, never mind'. Hope you had insurance. Fab shots from the Olympus though. Loved the final image.
Sorry for your loss. : - ( I have the Nikon d7200 and it was good for me to learn from you using the same camera.
NOOOOO! That's bad luck mate. As a fellow D7200 shooter I share your love for the camera. Recently i have started thinking of upgrading so I'm interested to see where you go from here. Love the channel, keep up the excellent work!
Thanks so much for the support Steve đ
Really like the last photograph- hope the new camera works out - I have a D7200 and possibly looking for an upgrade so will watch in anticipation and see if you give positive recommendations in your next few videos. Keep up the good work đ
Like this channel for your sheer enthusiasm.
Henry, It is sad to see a much treasured camera take the plunge and drown. A couple of years ago I had my backup camera (CANON 5D Mk2 + 70-200mm F/2.8) fall of a tripod and hit the ground HARD. It happens in an instant but looks like slow motion :(. Both were insured and CANON did a fantastic repair job. I've also had one of my lenses end up in the water (lent it to my daughter) Insurance covered it and I got a new 17-40 f/4 and my daughter got a new Canon 6D MK2.
Ah mate Iâm gutted for you. I love how loyal you are to your stuff. Your old motor, your camera. Whatever you decide to do camera wise Iâm sure your images will still be superb.
Edit: just finished watching the video. That Olympus looks to be doing a great job mate!
Absolutely gutted for you bud on the disaster with your camera.
Congratulations on getting sponsorship from Squarespace.
Nice images with your Olympus.
Look forward to see what new camera you have bought.
I have got a couple of ideas which one.
Thanks a lot for your support Tim! Yeah I'm quite pleased with how the images came out :D
Gosh Henry, thatâs really bad news mate, really unfortunate. I guess the opportunity to get a new, mirror less job is a bit of a lift but no D7200 - not good.
Personally, Iâve been grateful for every bit of advice youâve given on the D7200. The use of my own, has benefited greatly - so a huge thank you for that.
Love your work, so whatever you get, keep up the great vids and stay safe, especially near the H2O.
All the best.
R.I.P. D7200. Iâm sure that no matter what you get next you will get fantastic images with it. I thought my Canon 80D was cooked after a night in the rain chasing frogs and salamanders but it survived somehow. Canât wait to see what you got in next weeks video!
I got a great deal on a barely used Nikon Z7 when the Z7II came out. None of the upgrades on the Z7II mattered much for landscape photography. And the Z glass is so good!
I can relate to your loss of your favourite camera, but hi ho it is an opportunity to upgrade!!
'Top drawer' indeed, for your first image.. loving the textures but also the many hues too..
The play of light/shadow, warm/cool is so very beautiful in the late evening light.. wonderful Henry.
Gorgeous abstract image pervaded by pink from the setting sun..
Saddened to hear of your mishap with the Nikon but, you more than 'manage' with the Olympus.
thank you Henry, for this week's episode of 'living the dream'..
Thanks for following along on the adventures Kelsang. Your continued support is much appreciated đ
As always a very enjoyable video Henry. Sorry to hear about your Nikon. But on the bright side your Olympus shots were beautiful. I would love to see you using it more often. I have a EM5 Mk3 myself and love using the high res shot.
Keep the Olympus. Itâs does everything you need well and you have the glass. Hopefully your meeting camera is an EM1.3 or EM1x given that your Nikon died due to water. The other suggestion is maybe a Nikon Z5 or Z6
@@joekelly9369 the EVF in the Z5,6,7 is great. 3.69 million dots. 2.36 for the Olympus. Battery life is good. Albeit the Olympus em1.2 might be better for battery.
@@joekelly9369 Battery life is totally fine for landscape photographers, and the evf is incredible. I shot with fuji xt3 for a couple of years, it had the 3.69m dot evf and it was garbage compared to the Z7 evf.
Mirrorless Henry... đđ» It will be very interesting to see what you have decided to get! Sorry about the old D7200 and the long lens.
So sorry to hear about your mishap! :-( Great video and that last image was absolutely stunning.
Awe,being a Nikon user,I feel for you,so sorry!đąđą I love my Nikon D 750!
Really I am very sad about your fav camera ... Even I am fan of canon too I love your Nikon d7200 , I don't know why ? Maybe because of you ... Don't be sad for anything, nothing belongs to us here , just walk your own way with any dslr , we are here all the times support you and your amazing captures , I love you bro đ
Well Henry I think your photos deserve 50mp..keep it up đđŒ
Oh Henry sorry for your loss and I feel your pain! On the plus side another great vid. All the best, Phil.
Sorry to hear about losing your D7200. You can get attached to a camera that works well for you, I still use my trusty Canon 70D as my main camera. Looking forward to seeing what you get.
As with the red beast I feel your pain with the camera beast. Itâs never about the gear and more about the person behind the gear. Keep on Henry.
I fell in a lake this past winter, taking my camera and tripod, and my wide angle lens with me. The camera and lens were fully submerged for about 10 seconds as I flailed to get out of the frigid waters. I did the rice thing too, although first I wrapped the camera in cheesecloth to prevent rice from getting into the body. I had been thinking of updating for a while, and this forced my hand. After getting a new body and using the rest of my lenses,a week later I tried firing up the camera, and it had come back to life...the lens also returned, and I still use that lens today. Now I have a newer body, and have a back-up just in case!
Sorry about the camera, Henry. Also I've said it before but must repeat..what a beautiful area this is!!
Your Olympus would have survived that fall in the lake. My entry level EM10 did! Great video and great images!
Good to see you remain positive after losing the D7200. A similar thing happened to me last November when I fell face first into a bog and destroyed my D5500. I sold off my 7 Nikon lenses, flash and accessories and moved to MFT (Lumix G9). I haven't regretted it
Oh no Henry, you and that Nikon 7200, joined at the hip!! like Torvill & Dean, Boris & Brexit!! looking forward to seeing your new setup. Great vid as usual stunning photos. Just off to pre-order the Calendar, take care Mate
Stunning photos!
Have you thought about staying with the Olympus full time?
They're a perfectly capable camera (the EM1 MkII is my full-time body of choice).
Oh my god! I'm so sad for you. It really really sucks to break gear.
Congrats on the sponsor tho. Excited for the new camera...
Awww Henry, gutted for you mate , glad to see you still out taking great photos
Thanks Geoff! đ
Sad news indeed. Sorry for your loss, Henry, if it turns out to be for sure dead.
đšđŠ/đșđž... Just now pre-ordered the Calendar, Henry! đ
Thanks for your support Christopher - it's much appreciated đ I can't wait to send it out :D
Oh mate. I'm rather devastated for you. Personally, I would just replace the body for ÂŁ350 off ebay. Gonna miss the colour saturation and dynamic range of the D7200 and the mystical images you get with it. I find these high resolution mirrorless camera's too sharp for my liking, but that's my opinion. Have fun mate.
You can always bring down the sharpness with some negative clarity in Lightroom
@@RFranks That's fair enough. I'm just too old school these days đ.
Best comment ever.. cameras are tools.. not worth spending a fortune on them..just like buying a $10,000 drilling machine
If they are that cheap may as well get another
Congratulations
My Lumix S1R + Leica 24-90 zoom fell in Blea Tarn. Fished it out of a foot of water. Worked perfectly afterwards. Still going strong. For once weather-sealing proved to be a lot better than expected.
Thanks for the vid and so sorry to here about the Nikonđ but now I canât wait to see the new ride, I mean camera đ
No matter what conditions, you have always great shots. This is why I adore your work so much and why these videos are so instructive:
Taking the conditions just as they are and making the most out of it. I liked the first shot at 7:50 best. Olympus had and has good gear. Just baught an OM1 and I'm superhappy.
Sorry to hear about the Nikon. I did something similar a few years back with my Sony A7III but maybe not as deep or submerged, and incredibly it survived. I remember that feeling well mateâŠgood to see you bounce back.
I have the 7 III, that Camera is surprisingly resilient!
So sorry to hear about your camera, but the universe works in mysterious ways, as you found with your car. Thanks for sharing another great video.
It does indeed Sheila! Thanks for your continued support đ
Oh man, that hurts to hear, especially since I have a D7200 as well. If it really has gone to the giant camera store in the sky, I hope you display it at home as an homage. Curious to see your new camera and excited! Thanks again for another great video!! Class!!
What a bummer but a good excuse to go full frame
So sorry to hear that, I had a Nikon D7000 and I traded it in for a mirroless system - biggest mistake I've made. I just loved the D7000, I bet you will go for the D7500 or just maybe Fujifilm XT4 which I think you mentioned a few videos ago. ??? Also what Peugeot model did you get I have a 2008 and when you changed I was hoping to get a glance of it on your videos. Glad to see you are doing so well and that you have sponsorship - keep up the good work and take care H, you deserve young man.
Again thanks for sharing... sorry about your D7200....I do hope you get another Nikon camera ...I have a D7100 & D500 & love both for different reasons..I kept my D7100 as it gives me great pleasure to use & results are amazing... cheers đ
Aw that is so sad about your nikon Henry , cracking photo's with your olympus good seeing being upbeat
Thanks May đ
Love my OMD EM 5 III (essentially the same insides as the EM1 II). I say keep shooting with the Olympus. But if you go to Nikon again I understand as I love Nikon and have a Z5 (great camera as well). Really you can't go wrong with Olympus or Nikon. Can't wait to see what you decide. Keep up the great work.
Sorry to hear about your d7200. The same thing happened to mine a few years back. Eventually it dried out and with the exception of the autofocus, seems to work fine (although it mostly sits on the shelf these days). The lens was another story - paper weight material. :)
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the D7200 drowning in the lake. Hopefully drying it out will bring it back from the brink. A Zfc, Z50, Z5, Z6ii, or a Z7ii... any of those would be a good replacement if the D7200 is lost for good. Hopefully everything will work out for the best!
I love Olympus for climbing, hiking, ski touring etc because of the weight and the size. Find the pro lenses a bit pricey hence my own adventure in Nikon apsc. That said, very tempted to try and trade it all in for the new Z fc - Iâm a sucker for Retro styling.
Congratulations on the Squarespace sponsorship. But commiserations on the loss of the Nikon. I remember the first video you made featuring it in New Zealand. Quite a odyssey it has been on. Looking forward to seeing the new camera set up.
Cheers Matthew! đ It's been on a fair few adventures since the NZ days! Thanks for your continued support mate!
So sorry to hear about your camera mishap. We develop strong feelings for our gear. I've had a Nikon D5300 since 2014. It's like an old friend. Before that it was a Nikon D40x. Boy, did I hate to give that one up. Whatever camera you've decided to go forward with, I know you'll still shoot excellent photographs. Cameras are only as good as the person behind them!
I do hope you got the D500. Arguably the greatest crop sensor camera ever created. And all your lenses will still work woth it.
P.s. OMD stands for Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark.
Sorry to hear about the D7200. The D500 would be a good upgrade
Can I firstly say to loose any equipment must be soul destroying especially an expensive camera . I have never met Henry and I'm not a relative but for the knoedge he gives everyone and his enthusiasm on a weekly basis is priceless so I hope he doesn't mind when I say to his loyal army of followers including myself go to his site and donate what you can to help him with the cost of the new camera . Let's pay a little back for all the joy he gives us.
I did the the same with D750. Water running out of it. Put it in a sealed plastic box covered in silica bags and leave it a few weeks. Mine survived with just a sensor clean.
I truly feel for you, Henry. It's both aggravating and upsetting in equal measure when something you treasure is perhaps damaged irrevocably. I hope you aren't beating yourself up over it and are galvanized to not allow for a repeat of the incident. Personally, I'd have taken it to a camera maintenance specialist but it depends on costs. I'd be worried that fine dust and other buildup might have been washed into the electrical and mechanical thingies and cause problems if it isn't tended to correctly. The lens might well be a different matter. For this to come after the mechanical issues with "The Red Beast" is sure to be doubly painful. I wish you all the best, and look forward to hearing the outcome of this event.
Sad to hear about the demise, I use a D7100 and one reason I like your channel is that you use something similar. I hope you replace it with something that I can identify with. I also have an Olympus OM10 which is a great wee camera. What ever you choose I will follow your Wainwright progress, particularly now that James Burns has just finished his Wainwrights, but also as I love the Lakes. Thanks.
Look at at all these comments! So sorry to hear about the D7200! Iâm guessing you are heading into full frame now. Secretly hoping you stay with Nikon. đ
Since I use a D7200 I have appreciated the quality of pics you get. This encouraged me to get going with the equipment I have. Sorry for your lossđą
I love to see you using the EM1 Mk2, I love mine but haven't tried the Hi-Res mode yet, now I think I might give it a go.
That 40-150mm PRO lens is awesome, my most used lens, I never leave it at home.
First the car, now the camera - times they are a changin'. Wish you well with the new set up. Great views again.
Mate!!!! Been out of the scene a while due to getting a bit carried away with the golf season but hearing youâre now sponsored by square pace Iâm so happy for you. Well done bud, shows all the work you are putting into this Chanel is paying off. Well done bud. Keep up the great content.
Thanks so much for your support Greg - it's much appreciated đ Hope you've been enjoying the golf mate!
You made good use of the Olympus, so it is more the craftsman than the tool. However, I grieve with over the splash down of the D7200. I gave my son my beloved D7100 when I bought a new Nikon, but I missed the 7100 so much I found a replacement on Ebay with less than 1500 sots on the shutter count. I also lost a lens in a Florida swamp in 2011. I was changing lenses lost my grip only to see the lens hit and roll off the edge of the dock we were standing. Know a gator lived nearby I felt the budget lens was not worth an arm or leg, however a college student next to jumped right in shouting, âIâll get it!â He didnât listen to me, retrieved the soggy moss and mud covered lens with a smile and went his way. It was a total loss, but I have a story of more value than that kit lens. Looking forward to seeing what you bought! Cheers!
I am so sorry, man. I hit like for the CZcams rating.
đ thanks mate!
It is not 50 mp, it is /80. With the Em mark 3, and X, you can handhold the camera when using 50 mp.
RIP to the red beast, hopefully the Nikon fares better... (or good excuse to upgrade đ€·ââïž) either way keep up the good work bud!
My D5100 eventually dried out and survived from a fall in a stream open with no lens. Despite switching it on - which you should never do (fries the circuitry when damp).
I've used it many times since and am going to convert it to IR. Moved on to a D7200 (Best camera ever made) and now a D800, Great camera too đ€Łđ·đ
Home after work, and watching :-) been looking forward to this all evening :-)
Sorry about the Nikon, Henry. But these were quite nice, especially the cairn shot. It'll be interesting to see what you pick up next. FYI, ordered the calendar. It's gonna be sweet. Makes me look forward to 2022.
Thanks so much Mark! I'm looking forward to sending it out to you đ I was quite pleased with that shot!
Yep happened to me 2montha ago with my old canon 5d mk ii. Thought id tightened the camera onto tripod then moved closed to the deep stream i was photographing. With it been 2nd hand i took camera apart to dry.. the sigma 10-20 needed more time as did my extender which still refuses to aperture change.. but all in all i can live with it. My insurance didnt cover water damaged ( surprise surprise ) Good luck Henry on your damaged. Think we both learnt a lesson, which no photographer has ever advised me.. CHECK YOU CAMERA IS TIGHTENED ON YOUR TRIPOD ..
11:12 stone wall fading into the lake. Nice background placement on a walk and talk!
Like the shot of the cairn, Henry. I guessed the name of the two lakes before you divulged the names, getting quite good, aren't I? Ooops about the camera - keep going. Thanks for sharing Henry.
End of an era or a new chapter in the H T story. A fine set of images Henry, and a great video. Just pre ordered 2022 calendar, it looks great.
New car, new camera!
Great pictures Henry! I really appreciate the Boxing Off instruction. Sure, itâs painful to lose the D7200 (I have one too). But itâs your talent for composition and âlightâ that has me hooked (and, of course, youâre so very likeable). I know youâll take awesome photographs with whatever new camera / lens (and L-bracket đ) youâve chosen. All the best!!!
Man, i was stoked every time to see such great photos with a dx camera, as i also have the same camera. It would be kind of sad for me so see you switch đ
The issue with a camera in water is that the camera may have some weatherproofing but, when they are submerged the water enters through the card and the battery slots.
As usual, great adventure and amazing shot Henry. Always enjoy!
Cheers Bruce đ»
Sorry to hear about the D7200 Henry! I shoot with a D7500 and Iâve been thinking about upgrading to full frame but I think I will hold off until I have an accident of my own⊠đ you know just to give those Instagram photos that little something.
Cracking job as always Henry, sorry to hear about the 7200 hope insurance will cover it for you and I'll put my 2 bob on your new camera will be another Nikon this time a Z6 II. Stay safe mate. đđ
