Yo!! Long time no see Willy @Thewillysworlshop it’s been years and it great seeing you… fuccing Legend
As a filipino growing up in the 90's, Willy Santos was my idol. Thank you for making us just as excited decades later just as much as when we were kids
Same here dude
Willy santos the donger pat chanitta and daewon were putting it down for the Asian community I still daewon is best street skater ever
Willy has always been a humble legend. Just glad more people get to see it!
🙌🏾
Yoo shout out to kuya (
Big up from Paradise Hills to Mira Mesa 🤙🏽 Kuya Willy rang bells throughout Dago and beyond…
🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 Willy Santos was a Filipino hero growing up skating
Willy is Definitely one of the most progressive Technical Skater if his Era, sick guest.
For sure man! I'm 44 so when crob said "oh yeah send $1 dollar for stickers" that unlocked so many old ads from old magazines I have not thought of in 30+ years
South African Skateboarding 🙌🏾

🤘
That G&S video was such a game changer. Markovich and Santos were on constant replay. Respect!
Stun
Dude I haven't watched that video in 20+ years. I am going to go watch it now
Yeah willy and Kris went off
South African Skateboarding 🙌🏾

Some skaters when u watched them, u knew they had it and were next level, Markovic, Santos, Carroll, Mariano, Wray, Sanchez. There's more, obviously but one more I remember blew me away from the first video part. Eric Koston in the H Street vids which got my attention but too short. But when 101 vids came out "falling down" and the one just before which if I remember correctly, came with different random covers. Mine was "world war 2 report" I think. I'm sure a friend had it with totally different cover. Anyway, his style, power, finesse, trick difficulty. He was the first person I saw doing krooked grinds. We didn't know what they were so called them Koston grinds, or k grinds. I'm sure it was in a magazine called that too. It's all a bit hazy so correct me if I'm wrong.
Willy Santos trick tips on vhs got me started on a skateboard
True legend 🙏🏼❤️🔥
It’s been a long time coming for this interview. Willy is a legend.
What an amazing Christmas present! Thanks, Nine Club. Willy's the Best! ❤
What would you guys do without Roger ? He is a skateboard encyclopedia!
The show wouldn't be near as good with out cribs knowledge
@@masonmcconnell9375who’s cribs?
It’s always a better show with Roger’s commentary.
Hart getting stoked on the fanmail SASE $1 is one of the best I hear.. I was like, no way him too!!
Thank you crob, dubz and Kelly for getting g us willy for Christmas. What a great guest and an amazing person. I cld listen to him tell skate tales for hours
Also shotout jeremy klein, I wld love to drinks beers w him at hooters and fly on the wall it. Dude is skateboarding
H-Street was so significant back then. Lots of skaters keep mentioning Matt Hensley and H-Street for a reason. I so badly wanted to skate like Matt, even today. Shackle Me Not and Hokus Pocus were the Video Days and Questionable of that time. I don’t think there’s enough talk about it. Love this interview by the way. Willy Santos is one of the greats for sure.
Best music to those videos as well!
@@ryanguffy4739 Agreed. The music choices were perfect for every section on both videos. I love the instrumental stuff.
Those were all apart of my introduction to skateboarding - the homie, Billy, had a whole dresser drawer full of tapes in 2000. He had been buying them for a year or two and had amassed a good collection of them. Hokus Pocus, Video Days, Second Hand Smoke and Questionable... he had a lot of the classics and a lot of the 90s hits - all the Transworlds, a lot of 411VMs, all the Alien Workshop stuff, Zero, Foundation, Toy Machine...I remember him getting Adio One Step Beyond on release day... So many good memories, eating orange sherbet and watching skate videos before we'd hit the city or drive to Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor ( even Canada a couple times) to go on skate missions. It's been a long time since then but I was blessed to have access to those tapes in a time, when there was no streaming video on the internet and youtube was only a thought.
Till this day, the most excited I've ever been in my life to skateboard was after getting done watching Shackle Me Not for the 1st time - everything changed. That video was the transition from old school to what we know today as street skating. Who didn't want to be Hensley⁉️
H-Street sponsored a bunch of our locals who all rode for the vaunted MSS or Marin Skate Sports shop team-- Great days indeed!
Shotout willys workshop. Willy Santos is and elder statesmen of the game. Underrated and one of my all time favorites. Him and guy were my dudes back in the day
Willy!!! I broke my first bone skateboarding on your Fast food worker/screaming manager pro model board. June 2nd 1998. Spent half my summer in a leg cast just staring at that board, desperate to get back on it. I love you Willy!!! And your part in The End blew my mind. This is the 15 year old in me talking now.
At 45.00 Willy mentions the Buffalo boot! Willy was among the few you could see sporting these back then.(Nnoseblunt slide pop-over sequence comes to mind)That shoe was amazing! Basically a cleaner Caballero Vans with smooth leather and some metal hooks on the top hoops.
Matt Beach is one of the greatest skateboarders of all time. Hope you’re doing well out there Matt. ❤
He had one of the best front side flips too and skating those adidas shell tops man
Thanks man I'm doing ok and such have my life to the Lord please guys in this day take some time to thank jesus not worry or fret over myself I'm ok. How are you though man.
.baked🎉😂😅😮
Has matt been on skate mental this whole time? Or am I forgetting something? Man matt had been killing it for a long time. Shotout to him
@@theramplocal No he’s been out of “pro” skating for quite sometime.
he truly was. I have heard he is struggling and not doing well.
Listening to roberts struggle that hard to understand his family are filipino immigrants was pretty tough
Roberts is thick af at times
The Legend!! Thanks you guys!!
what a great guy Willy is... Thanks 9club!
Now this is a great Christmas present, brought a smile to my face seeing Willy as a guest
i met willy in 98 on the birdhouse this is the end tour. im to this day still stoked on every one involved in that video / tour
Nine Club has become the Library of Alexandria for skateboarder interviews. So thankful for you guys. Kumusta, Willy!? Hahhah
Mabuti naman dito!
totally underrated. He was soooo good. They didn't talk about it but he was killing contests with tech stuff and making it everytime. Like half cab heelfliping a pyramid while other people are just ollieing it.
Humble, genuine, family man! All great traits for one of the greatest to ever do it. Hail Willy!
Much appreciated it Paul!!! 🙌🏽
His tricks still look like magic! Willy Santos was so ahead of the times it was hard to understand when I watched it back then :)
Been waiting for this for years!!
This is one iv been asking for with the " who would you like to see on the show" posts. Merry Christmas to all of us!
Willy is one of the dopest dudes I've had the pleasure of skating with and calling a friend. One of the most slept on skaters of all-time (and I tell him that all the time), and one of the most low-key, humble dudes. No big head, no ego at all.
Man the big media years of Willy were so cool. Everyone was so serious and kinda sarcastic/shitty at the time and he brought an element of fun and made it cool to smile and have a good vibe. There was a minute where he was the one everyone was watching for progression and style. Not to discount Daewon, Mullen or any of the heavy hitters but he’s somehow lost in the sauce a little bit when people talk about the 90s greats.
As a San Diego Kid, Willy has had always been a legend and all these year later he has earned the title Legend as skater, Man, and Dad. Support the Work Shop and next legends.
Willy inspired me on so many levels 90 thru 94 as I was trying to progress in skating. I studied everything he did routinely from G&S Footage to Feasters and beyond. True Pioneer- who rarely lost contests. He can skate all terrains too!
I truly appreciate your kind words 🙏🏽
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for this xmas gift
thank you nine club for educating me on skate history as a new skater. Always love to see my fellow Filipinos killing it out there!
I met him recently at a random store i knew I recognized him and asked him for a picture and he was a Super Awesome dude! Thanks Willy !
Saw Willy here in Brazil at a STU event and I HAD TO FAN OUT! He was super cool, we even took a selfie haha. Cheers, Willy!

What a great episode guys. Been waiting on this a long time
I first ran into Willy when we were both about 12 or 13 years old at the Waggenheim School in Mira Mesa. I could barely ollie at the time and he was throwing huge Ollie North's over a trash can off the banks at the time. Dude was always so full of stoke and cool to be around. What a legend🙌
So glad you had Willy Santos on your show. He’s a legend !
Willy has always been one of my heroes! Plus that little conversation with Jeremy Klein was dope
I’ve been waiting for this episode. Truly did not disappoint.
Finally. Great to have Willy on the show.
So good. Love Willy. Love you guys. LOVE the idea of a Willy/Cline combo episode!
What a great listen guys! This guy is a goat and a humble soul with mad style! I’m old like him and relate to some of the era facts!
Dude! I haven't watched in a while . Now my mind is blown I've wanted willy on the show for ages. I had a hook up wallet with that same graphic on his jacket in 96. Hooks decks with animated babes was 🔥
Willy's the man! Super humble guy, it's always amazing to see him skate.
Merry xmas everyone!
Thx for the episode you guys!!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you Nine Club 🔥
Yearssss in the waiting for this one🙌👏🔥 Still need more haha. Pt2 asap or maybe a Santos & Klein double ep.??🤞🤞
So tight!! I always looked up to him when I first started skating! Great job guys.
GREAT episode…. amazing stories. Willy is a legend for sure.
My Brother!! Love ya Willy! Awesome
Interview! Brings back memories!
I love Willy. Genuinely a great person and skater.
'bout time you had Willy on!!! Great human being!!! Love you Willy!!!!
Best episode ever! Willy is my hometown hero of Mira Mesa!
It was honor to meet Willy back in the days and he is one of the best human on and off the skateboard. Big big ❤️✊ to him! Lets Go Willy🔥❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥 Happy holidays to everyone from 🏝️🇯🇵🙏✌️
Woooohoooow viva la 9 club! thank you for having Willy Santos! This is awesome!
Willy is the man. I remember seeing him in the 411 VM days! Still a G!
One of the best Christmas gifts I got ❤. God I love Skateboarding
Thank you very much for the interview. I love it.
What an absolute legend in the game - Willy has not changed at all! I had pleasure of skating Jerabek in '92, only skaters will understand the pure joy of travelling to the other side of the world to visit a school yard/handrail/bank/block being the home of so many iconic mags/videos...
Legend
Willy was in the greatest film ever...The Skateboard Kid 2
Ive been waiting for this since the beginning of the podcast!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Willy Santos!!!! Such a legend! I'm right there with you Chris! Ravers was the first skate video I ever saw and it changed me forever! Great episode!
Great interview, especially for Christmas Day. Willy Santos came before my time as a skater, but that dude was steady crushin spots from like 1990-2014, a positive force within skating
Gershon Mosley would be an great interview Chris!!!
They already done it chap
He's been on already and it's a good one.
One of your best interviews yet! 💯
hands down favorite skater! thanks nineclub
Saw the thumbnail got instantly pumped and also instantly thought of the trick tips video he did back in the day. Wish I still had that vhs, lol.
Willy is my filipino dad, and I love him lol .
Appreciate the vibez!!!!
Salamat Tito Willy for everything you have done and are doing for skateboarding 🇵🇭
Willy's part in the end is still so amazing today. That lipslide ender he does is so gnar
Legend!! Great episode!
The 1st skate video, that I bought, was The End on DVD - the original release with the OG music. I was a big Willy fan, back then. I can still remember getting Willy Santos tech decks, when them boys, 1st came out. Before I ever touched a skateboard, I had some Will Santos Birdhouse fingerboards lol. I gravitated to his board graphics...they were always fun. That early Birdhouse team was mega influential on me.
Ohhhh yeah, such a good episode!
Thanks 🙏 this is gold
Happy holidays boys ❤
Willy is such a rad guy... So genuine
I remember you him with the young Birdhouse crew (Andrew, Matt Beach and Tony) when they came to do a demo in Kamloops BC Canada
I totally had the 'Willy Santos Trick Tips' VHS back in the late 90's 🤣🤣 It was a Christmas gift from my Ma. Willy is a legend 🔥🔥🔥
Willy was one of my main influences when I was a kid, now that I'm older and hardly skate it's really cool to hear his story. Willy is a humble legend who influenced so many pros.
Willy is the best! That 3 Frogs graphic was my very first board. Great episode!
First board I ever got was a Willy Santos Birdhouse Christmas complete. Legend.
I skated with Willy once way back in the day at Webb Park in Rancho Bernardo. They had a bench going down the stairs and I pulled a nose manual up it. It was pretty hot for the time. Anyway, he screamed, "Yeah!" along with everyone, and when I rode over by him he said, "Hi! My name's Willy," and shook my hand. Everyone in every interview at the time said how cool and nice Willy Santos was. It was really true, and I was so stoked he did that. Peace to Willy Santos!
Pinky Tuscadero was Fonzie's girlfriend in very early episodes of Happy Days. Sheffey just happened to have a pink shirt on at the time and made a joke.
This was a great one ☝🏽 nine club for life
This has been a long one in the making! Great interview and great skater!
Great episode Willy is a legend!
Kelly is that Lil Skate Kid we all were at some point and he genuinely enjoys reminiscing those times!!! Jeron in the history keeper, the actual witness of these events whether from being there or knowing about it. Chris is the one that is in between eras and lived through it and Roger is the freaking skateboarding wiki master moments in history finder in less than 90 seconds!!! I love this podcast!!!
Willy is the best! so good!
Willy is a SD skate legend! The End was huge for me!
yes!!! thank you! Merry Xmas fellers!
So cool Willy, we grew up skating with him in Mira Mesa. Cool that he gives lots of shout outs to the old stomping grounds!
At the time, he was a little kid. He was skating a giant 10" Hosoi deck back in the day at Erickson Elementary school. We would drag the launch ramps out -Even then he ripped. John Reeves was also in on a lot of those sessions as well as later the Donger-1986-88
Dude willy and heath interviews … Good Christmas 🔥🔥🔥
Damn man, this was a long time coming. One of those eppys you wish was another 2 hours. Such an inspiration to me when I was a young buck in the mid to late 90’s.
Willy is such an og legend. He was so good.
I got G&S Stun when it was new, and I watched Willys part over and over. Willy is a class act. Legend
