  • Is a Masters in Finance worth it for you? Its going to depend on your personal circumstances, but a top MSF, MFin, MSC degree could help you find a finance job or financial engineering job if you have tried all other avenues. Graduate school is not something you should take lightly, due to the potential of putting yourself in even more student loan debt.

    Hi Kaila, I’m finishing my bachelors in accounting concentration from a community college, I’ve been working for CPA firm in taxes/bookkeeping for over 1 year now. I’ve always loved investing and using fundamentals/ analysis to make that choice. I want to switch to investments analyst/ portfolio analyst role or even REPE analyst. I’m very late to the internship applications so I’m considering doing a MSF. It’s 30K in Florida and I never had any debt from my BA since it was cheap college, also my GPA was 3.0 not great. Do you think it would be best for me to pursue a MSF ?

    Hey kaila! I have some qs.
    1. What do u mean by networking?
    2. I'll be doing my BS from another country. Will MSF be good enough to get me a corporate or commercial banking job.
    3. Is ASU a good school and can i get a job in the south ( dallas/houston) after studying there?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 4 lety +1

      Networking - meeting likeminded people, people that would be willing to help you out, answer questions, people who want to see you succeed.
      MSF will definitely help you out since you are coming from another country. Some people use it to get into corporate or commercial banking.
      ASU is a good regional school, so should be handy in getting a job in Arizona and neighboring states.

    Hey Kalia! Thanks for the info, I got into a MFin program at a top 10 public university and debating whether it’s worth it to take on student loans in order to attend it. Is it really much of a game changer?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 5 lety +4

      Check out what companies recruit at the program you got accepted to and where the alumni from that particular program are working now. Can you get into those types of opportunities currently without the MSF? Where do you want to go in your career? What is the alternative to not pursuing the MFin? Is this something you are passionate about and willing to live a frugal live for a while to pay off your loans? If you are currently not getting attention from jobs you are applying to, not getting promoted, don't have a very strong network or unwilling to build it, you want to become a financial engineer/quant, etc, than the MFin can be a game changer.

    I just graduated with a undergraduate in marketing but I have also always been interested in finance specifically wealth management. I would love to have a career in managing clients money making smart investments for them or even just consulting. That being said I was considering going for my MBA in Finance specifically. Do u think it would be worth it? Especially since my undergraduate wasn’t even in finance but instead marketing.

      Have you tried applying to any wealth management firms yet and connecting with people in that field? If you are not garnering interest from anyone then I would tell you to consider the MBA. If I had more information about your particular background and what methods you are currently using to get noticed, then I could give you more tailored advice. You should consider doing a coaching call with me. If that is something you are interested in, send over an email to my email in the description box.

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 3 lety +1

      @@9770G How much would they pay for your masters? A lot of companies have caps, like they will give $3000 a year towards your degree, and some have even stricter rules like they will reimburse you a portion of the money you spent (on college credits only) and how much depends on the grade you got in each class. Usually anything under a B is not reimbursed. If they have shitty policies regarding paying for your masters than I would say no, its not worth it if thats the only/main thing you are looking to get out of it. Don't know the size of the company, but usually they have stuff like this covered in the employee handbook or something similar (unless you would be getting special treatment, which is rare). Once again, I don't know all the details, but I would not ask them to write it down or have them sign something, as it would look rude. Just ask for further clarification on their policies and let them know you have interest in pursuing further education in the future.

    Hi! For non finance undergraduate majors such as Marketing (but have taken basic financial accounting and financial management, aswell as maths and stats courses), do you have any tips for getting into high finance jobs and internships after graduation? In terms of skills or courses that could be pursued?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 3 lety +2

      Since you commented on this video, are you currently in a masters in finance program? Or are you saying you are currently in undergrad studying marketing? If you are currently in undergrad and interested in finance roles, do not wait to pursue internships. You need to start applying ASAP, because usually openings are filled up to a year in advance for high finance internship opportunities. Getting an internship (or 2 depending on what year you are in) will make things a lot easier for you to get a full time role. If you wait til after graduation it will be very, very hard to make a case for yourself with a marketing degree unless you have a 3.8 and up GPA and go to a top 10 school. Network as much as possible with people who may be able to help you get your foot in the door. Learn advance excel skills ASAP.

    Do you think it will be difficult for a stem student to adapt to finance? How difficult would you say the masters in Finance is?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 3 lety +1

      Most stem students are able to handle the technical aspect of finance, its more so I have seen that they do not enjoy dealing with people, soft skills kind of stuff that some of them lack. Difficulty depends on the program as they are all a little different, but if you have a BS in electrical engineering I'm sure you have the drive to be able to handle a masters in finance.

Would you recommend a MSF from Arizona State University (ASU) for an International Student considering the tution fee without any scholarship? Would it worth it now that it is indeed a STEM designated program?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  Před 5 lety +2

      I personally don’t know much about ASU, I would see if you could get in contact with alumni from the MSF program from ASU and get their opinions of their time in the program and see where they are now in their careers. I’d tell you to see if any companies recruit at ASU, because Arizona itself won’t have many jobs that are MSF related, maybe some in Phoenix and Scottsdale. If I had to guess, I’m sure companies based in California and Texas recruit at ASU.
