- Ernest Hemingway’s classic tale gets the Hollywood treatment in this 1952 adventure from Twentieth Century Fox. Gregory Peck stars as Harry Street, a hunter reflecting on his life as he lies dying while on safari in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. The movie, which also starred Ava Gardner and Susan Hayward, received Oscar nominations for cinematography and art direction, and was listed as one of the top ten films of the year by the National Board of Review. Thanks to a star-studded cast and some exotic location shooting, the film was one of the great successes of the early 1950s.

When movies actually told a story and relied on the actors to tell it. Unlike today, where movies are created to push or enforce the narrative of the day, special effects are the storyline and actors are mere props. This is such a truly beautiful movie and Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner are phenomenal together. Thank for posting this timeless treasure in a day where timeless treasures are increasingly hard to find....

Gregory peck was the most handsome actor of Hollywood in that ERA n a majestic artist.
I am seeing this movie for the tenth time...Ava Gardner &Gregory Peck ..Great!!!
! Coño, las llevas contadas !
I'm glad that I was able to enjoy the greats like Gregory Pack, Susan Hayward and Ava Gardner. What gorgeous actors.
Hello Katie, how are you doing today?
Gregory Peck was a brilliant actor. His voice. 🙎🏻♂️💥🦏
I agree! His voice...🎶❤🎵❤🎶❤
And gorgeous!
I know, what a voice, what a presence and a masterful technique. I loved him in Rome Adventure. You’ve got to see him in that one with Audrey Hepburn. Okay, now back to the movie!
@Mad Twc Couldn’t agree more with you.

I like how Gregory peck acted so genuine that you almost forgot he was acting at points unlike most of his contemporaries. He has a sense of humor in this movie too, I like it!
I think all three of the females out acted him.
I dont think that gregory peck ever acted, that is the way he was, it is like saying that the guy who played liberty balance, Lee Marvin ever acted. He just learned the lines.
This film is timeless !❤❤❤
I loved Gregory Pecks voice. His acting ability was also great. Ava Gardner was so talented!!!
Gregory Peck & Ava Gardner, two of the all time greats, on screen, romantic interlude, it doesn't get any better

Best line in the whole movie is when the Doctor says to Gregory Peck: "Don't you people talk to each other?"
LOL -- just as relevant today.
Gregory Peck's timeless talent...he made believable his character, a thorough study portrayed on screen everytime. Charmingly a chemistry with his leading ladies. 👌
One of the best writers ever, Hemingway. Three of the best actors of Hollywood wer at tge top of their game. Eva/Gregory wer magnetic. What a spectacular classic. Thx for presenting it.
This film and The Last Time I Saw Paris, really captured that post war era. The concept of the generation trying to define themselves and experience all that life could offer.
Love that man, so good looking beautiful voice, talented he have it all. His wife must a been very special also. Respect him .
I saw his movie in Iraq when I was 16 years old ( I’m now 55) and I was mesmerised by the story and the talented cast, and especially by the beauty of Ava Gardner. I still love this movie
Ava was lovely
@IR77 KT Back in these days movies saw it as one of their functions to showcase beautiful women. Movies now days don't seem to think that's one of their purposes. When a younger person remarks about how beautiful Jennifer Lawrence or Angelina Jolie is, I tell em to watch a Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner, Liz Taylor or Sophia Loren movie.

Malek enta ya rajul! This is just a Hollywood melodrama with hammy acting. Fake studio, fake/poor acting and, of course, very fake actors - not to mention the typical imperialist/racist trope of Africa.

Gregory Peck was one of the greatest stars of the clasic era and most handsome and Eva Gardner was one of the lovliest actresses ever. they are very good together in this film, but the film itself little bit slow and boring

Suzan Hayward was not only beautiful she was a awesome actress she didn’t take second place to anyone.
Ava also didn't play 2d fiddle to anyone else, either. To me Ava was cool and deep, like an iceberg - 9/10th submerged.
I don't mean frigid.
Susan was more obviously passionate & more like fire 🔥, waiting for a chance to be tapped.
Both 👏 wonderful actresses
Oh in "On the Beach" they were unforgettable...
Knowing something about the background to this is amazing. It was Gertrude Stein that labeled the 20s artists of Paris the lost generation. It was von Blixen's (Out of Africa) safari co that led the safaris Hemingway went on. So many other narratives crossed paths back then.
The most gorgeous man that God created. His voice unique !

Nostalgic movie. Good film.👍
Such a captivating story,love,ignorance,mystique…
Brilliantly portrayed contemplative flashbacks amid present realities; replete with sunny memories and snowy recollections comprising some of the SNOWS ON KILIMANJARO.
The mood, pace, and substance create a tranquil and reflective viewing experience.
Thanks a lot. A film based on one of Heminway's most beautiful novels. A very special and real performance by G. Peck. A story of part of the novelist's life. The beauty of Kilimanjaro, which loses every day the snow that crowns it. Time undoes it as it undoes our lives. In my loneliness and my slow deathbed, I say goodbye.

Did you ever see a picture of Earnest Hemingway, Christine? He looked more like Burl Ives than Gregory Peck.
Ava Gardner...so stunning & down to earth
Fabulous cast .. Ava Gardner was so beautiful .. and a classic story .. but the rhino hunt is very sad particularly to present day viewing
Yeh nowadays we need to play like rhinos are not hunted. Nor elephants are not hunted for the ivory. No elephant poachers in Africa anymore. Would love to know what is your opinion on rodeo. A man ropes a helpless baby calf running down the arena and tries to ride a bull with sharp spurs that hurts and cuts the ribs of the bull. I am surprised that rodeo is allowed for present day viewing. But people fill up the grandstands every rodeo. How is that?
People these days are more worried about the damn animals than the human race.

Always a fan of Gregory Peck.
I'm almost afraid to see this movie. The brother I helped raise (who has replaced my mom & dad) just called with his wife to report cancer in his prostate. We all prayered together. Somehow this movie came up as I opened CZcams.
Don't know how this movie ends, but seems fairly obvious. Prayers for us all, as year 2020 comes to an end & we give thanks for the good we still have. I am praying for my brother & all of you, for in the end, what more do have we got?

Ernest Hemingway's story and acted out by Gregory Peck. Great.
except in hemingway he dies.
@@MsBenlane In the novel? But Ernest did not die young. He lived in Key West and Cuba many years, and went home to commit suicide.
I'm no critic but it was and still is a great movie
It is a great movie. Any movie that has Henry King as a director is great. An example of his movies: State Fair (1933), Tol'able David (1921), Romola (1923), In Old Chicago (1937), Alexander's Ragtime Band (1938), Stella Dallas (1925), The Song of Bernadette (1943)
For what its worth Hemingway didn't care for this movie. He called it "The Snows of Zanuck" after the producer/studio head. I personally like it.
One of my favorite moves of all time!

I'm really here for Miss Susan Hayward. Pity she's not more appreciated.
When saw the movie, even the 1st time, I rooted for her rather than for Ms. Gardner.
But Ms. Gardner's character in ''Mogambo'' is so attaching.

Wonderful to hear and see the jazz great Benny Carter playing alto saxophone at 19:17.
Oh So happy you. mention it because I loved Benn Carter and I recognized the sound but couldn't put two and two. together.
The film, as a film, is excellent. The jarring aspect is the hunting for game sequences - given today's response to such things. It is obviously about Hemingway's life. No wonder he travelled so much, to seek inspiration for writing. The central dilemma? Writing or his gorgeous wife, played by Ava Gardner. Often, one partner has to give way to the other, with unhappy outcomes.
un grand merci from France, Film Detective
Without hesitation, the best female performance in The Snows of Kilimanjaro was by the great Susan Hayward.
I've only ever seen stills (studio stills) of Ava Gardner, and never understood why everyone was so enamored of her. Seeing her in action, she is much more appealing.
Exactly. She looks fabulous in movies. In pictures not that special
@@anurag684 She ended up as yet another disappointed drunk.
@@None-zc5vg yeah so much potential wasted
@@anurag684 No, she did many movies. It was Hollywood who used her and spat her out. So many actresses like her in those days were contracted to one big studio and had to do all the movies that came their way. Once they hit their 40s though the studios stopped offering them any roles and had their contracts terminated. Ava Gardner was also considered 'difficult' because she questioned some of the roles that were given to her - she was tired of playing the 'femme fatale' role all the time. She wanted to do something more serious but her ravishing beauty was a curse for her career.
@@MTMF.london I know she was in several movies. But how many movies were good ? She was a good actress and had a great screen persona. She never got good characters

Loving and losing love..and finding love again..
And for a time alone...
Your comment leaves me stunned.
And hoping for you.
In 1988 my love and I parted, yet I love her still. I have learned that some love does not whither and die, but lives unto the grave. Perhaps even beyond.
@wolfen244 - I’m not going to pretend to grasp the ways of Divinity, as I certainly do not. What I do ascribe to is the belief that the Almighty is beyond our understanding. If He chooses to send someone, or generations of someones, back for another earthly life, then that will happen.
My life has been filled with spiritual oddities, a near death experience, and a number of out of body experiences, to include remote viewing. My own mother was very psychic and spiritual, and I inherited a tiny percentage of her abilities. Enough to know that the world is not entirely made up of flesh and blood existing only in the here and now.
Although I am a Christian, I do not dispute or disbelieve your experiences as I have had too many of my own that cannot be explained away. What I am astounded by is the power of love. I know it can last to the grave. You tell us it can go beyond. Why not? I have encountered no greater force in my lifetime and cannot grasp its depth or limitations.
You might enjoy watching Boris Karloff in “The Mummy,” a 1930s film about love surviving the centuries. Produced as a horror movie, it is really a love story that supersedes simple romantic love and takes it to another level.
