guys, those with chewed-up, bent, frayed, broken cables, visit your nearest bicycle shop you can buy a bare cable as a cheap replacement, it is used for mechanical brakes on bicycles, mountain bikes. and long enough so you can cut to original length, insert cable to the original tubings and pathways before crimping the end-tips on the motor spool side, you can also buy those end-tips of the cable just crimp with pliers. no special tools needed just a bit of patience required.

Great video. Thanks!! Had to tear into the door to replace a broken driver's side exterior door handle on a 2011 Mazda CX 7. The regulator cables unspooled when I removed the regulator motor. Found it impossible to get the spool back into the housing after rewinding the two cables due to the two springs on the cable ends. Having another set of hands to compress the springs (as you show here...) when snapping the rewound spring back in was necessary into order to get enough cable slack to get the spool back into the housing.

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra uses a nearly identical reel design and there are 2 flaws to it:
    1. Both the "UP" and "DOWN" cables use the same reel, so if either gets off-track, they'll rub.
    2. There is nearly no guide on the reel itself to keep the cable from falling between the reel and the housing, so as the front and back surfaces of the reel wear, it becomes easier for the cable to fall between the reel and the housing, causing a big tangle.
Seems like kind of a crap design, but a lot of carmakers use it. I'm putting mine back together with 50 LB fishing line, which is smaller and might stay away from the edges, but I'm not expecting it to last the ages.
