      @@w.a.l6518 OK if you say so, but try to watch other continental Indian reaction videos to this skit or read further comments on the accent, they will tell you it's spot on. In case you don't, simple reasoning 1. This imagined scene is set during the colonisation of India, what would South African Indians be doing there if their accent developed in SA. 2. SA Indians don't usually shake their heads when speaking. 3. The joke would be lost on continental Indians as not many are familiar with how SA Indians talk. PS I am also in SA been here 20 years plus, my former bosses were Indians so I am familiar. But again if you say so.

    LOL--I couldn't help but think of my tribe, originally called the Yoeme, in Mexico. The Spaniards came and asked what the name of the land was. We were next to the Yaqui River, so we said it was the Yaqui Valley. So they called us the Yaqui people. Little did they know that this was the Stubborn River in our language (at least that was one meaning) and so we thoroughly embraced the identity they introduced to us and kicked them out.

      Btw, as I recall Punjabi does not solely refer to India alone.There are part of Punjab that are now part of Pakistan also.To my ears (I might be wrong), Hindi, Urdhu & Punjabi language sound similar (similar not same)..I know most Urdhu speaker can understnd Hindi & vice versa.But not quite sure about Punjabi language..
      Speaking about South Africa.3 name Pop to my brain everytime I think of South Africa.Nelson Mandela, Charlize Theron & Trevor Noah.All excell in their own respective field.(I presumed u are South African - sorry if im mistaken)

      Margaret, it's easy for these comedians to target Victorian upper class thinking and tag it as British so modern day Britain is tarred with the same brush. I'm getting tired of these people ignoring the maharajas and moghul rulers who completely exploited the riches and people in India. They were no different. It could also have been the Spanish, Dutch or Portuguese. Just how far back should we go? It's best to let sleeping dogs lie but these comedians keep on dragging their interpretation of history out into the world without a full historic context. The British were no worse than any other ruler. The moghuls were significantly more ruthless as any Indian will know. But their name isn't dragged out by these comedians because it doesn't sell seats and may well kick off communal riots. This is why they target the British when there were far more worse events.

    We didn't name ourselves great, the French did. And it wasn't a compliment, it was about size. There is a region in France called Brittany. They called it Lesser Brittany, and Britain was Greater Brittany. Over centuries, as the language changed, it became Great Britain. This is a fairly normal naming convention for many areas in England, and again it's because of the size of the area compared with other areas with the same name.

      ive never heard of it relating to French Brittany but it simply being the largest island in the chain of the British Isles, this is a common geographical naming scheme as in the Spanish use in "Gran Canaria" the largest island in the canary island chain. as far as im aware it is only used to refer to islands that are significantly larger than the land mass of the other islands in the chain when combined.

    • @SarthorS
      @SarthorS Před 2 lety

      @@Simon-hb9rf I have no clue if the French ever called Brittany whatever the French for "Little Brittany" would be. However, close to where I live, there is Great Linford, Linford Village and Linford Wood. There is no Little or Lesser Linford. But there are a range of naming conventions from the various cultures that invaded the British Isles that will tell you both who founded the place and even the main function of it, from the Celts, to the ancient Romans through to the Anglo Saxons.

There was a large trade presence in India for a long time, then there was the 7 Years War with France and that's when the takeover began to properly happen. I find that many Americans underrate Trevor Noah because of their lack of exposure to other cultures and ethnicities. Many Americans are not multilingual and are very nationalistic and isolated. It’s disappointing that I cannot find many American fans of Trevor Noah because they say he is not funny but in my opinion he is absolutely brilliant!

      @@jaycredo9094 I said most Americans underrate Trevor. They do. He is not held in a high regard by the majority like John Stewart is. His fans do love him, but in larger mass populations like TX, AZ, NM, LA, MS, AL, TN, MO, So-Cal, and most conservative communities, most people in passing aren’t aware or who he is and they don’t watch his comedy. Many of them watched The Daily Show in the 90’s-early 00’s. Noah is more popular with those with exposure to other groups, particularly college students, internationals, scholars, and those actively involved with open-minded thinking.
      Example: my neighborhood has 146 homes. All middle-class, educated, 6-figure incomes. We are the only other house out of 3 who have watched anything with Trevor Noah. I know this because it was something I explicitly discussed at an annual community meet. The majority said hes “unfunny”. My in laws said the same thing as do my entire family. My husband said hes “unfunny”. I’m
      The only Trevor Noah fan in my own home.

      @@mad-mullah3117 you didn’t read anything I wrote. Just don’t worry about it since you excluded 99% of relevant facts about the beginnings of Trevor Noah getting hired and how The Daily Show starred multiple All-Star powerhouses in the world of writing, production, talk shows, and cinema box office. Just like SNL, the public didn’t want change and held John Stewart as the original. Maybe you’re too young to remember Trevor’s lukewarm reception. I’m also not sure why you are feeling antagonized by my support of Trevor Noah before he became more familiar to more American families.

    There was no India at the time of colonisation, as we understand modern India today, but a collection of fiefdoms. Colonisation of India was gradual evolving from trading posts. There would be no modern day India without colonisation.
    In simple terms a nation of millions subjugated a peoples of billions from the other side of the world because Britain was technologically advanced becoming an industrialised economy with rule of law, stable institutions and organisations and an efficient advanced military. India did not have any of these things.
