    You are so right about their subject matter being quite intellectually elevated compared to typical pop music. I recall another reactor saying something like, “you can’t be stupid and be a Nightwish fan.” Maybe a bit hyperbolic, but not a complete exaggeration. ☮️❤️

    Great reaction! Thank you for pointing out the lyrics, the message, deeper meaning! And let’s appreciate that English is not Tuomas’ first language- pure brilliance! We know Nightwish, their mastery in anything they do; everything they do has a purpose; case in point Floor’s vocals “blending in”! We love Nightwish like no other, so we should NOT BE SURPRISED, but I for one was absolutely floored, mind blown into millions of pieces 🤯, again! After consuming daily fast food music, Nightwish serves us the unmatched 12-course musical experience - cannot wait for September 💙 IMHO there has never been, there will never be, another Tuomas Holopainen; Nightwish; Floor ❤️‍🔥 Can I get an “amen!”

    Ville Lipiäinen - the best videomaker there is. Yes ...Tuomas writes awesome lyrics on top of his music. The museum staff was also involved deeply with them for these arrangements.

    Hi Jules, im glad you love this masterpiece. I think Tuomas is a genius in composing and writing. The video is great but the song is so good that it doesn't need the video.

    Is seems to me you haven't reacted to NIGHTWISH - THE POET AND THE PENDULUM Wembley 2015, (preferably a video with lyrics). Please do.
    SYMPHONIC METAL at it's best, a 14 minutes masterpiece, devided into 5 parts/movements, 5 stages of grief. Some have said it's like a mini opera, very dramatic. The vocals are not full opera of course, only operatic at times.
    Writing this song was the Nightwish' keyboardist/songwriter's way to deal with the backlash from many fans and the media, putting the blame on him, after Nightwish fired their original female lead vocalist.
    One of the best songs I know.

    This is what unconstrained genius looks and sounds like. Tuomas is a visionary and he does exactly what he pleases and goes wherever his muse takes him. It's on us to keep up and follow along. That he leaves many behind is no surprise.
    This... this composition is fucking epic. And it's as deep as the Marianas Trench and with more layers than a baklava. You can watch and listen to this 50, 100 times and still be rewarded with new information, new insights.
    The owl - avatar of Athena, goddess of wisdom. Floors plunge and deep dive into a blank page of an edition of Darwin’s On the Origin of the Species. The cloud of butterflies represents the myriad of the smallest events upon which our existence turns (the butterfly effect). The butterfly was also regarded as an emblem of the soul by the ancient Greeks. Even the relentless pace of the beat symbolizing the inevitability of the passage of time, the densely layered chorus of our ancestors, the ghostly presentation of the band members. Troy's deeply emotional rendering of the last verse. The ghostly sighs of the chorus at the very end as we embrace the light in our final moments. Layers upon layers and multiple meanings, folks.
    Nightwish doesn’t make songs or albums - in recent years, they have published portfolios of art where the nature of our existence is the subject matter. This, it would seem, has been disappointing to a number of the members of the community. I’ve seen so many complaints about this masterpiece coming from people who have little or no understanding of what’s going on. If you’re here for Floor or the head bang, then you’re most likely going to be disappointed and you’ll find lesser amusements available to you elsewhere. Tuomas, Floor and Nightwish doesn’t need your approval. For some, this has moved past your understanding or inclination to understand.
    Tuomas is an erudite man with a deep love of this world and for this existence. He is a man hungry for comprehension, for understanding and for love. This existence is awesome if you would only take the time to grasp for understanding. The glittering beauty of mathematics, music as the voice of God, the natural world with its "endless forms most beautiful". It's all there for the beholding. But you have to reach out for it, grasp it, you must have a savage thirst for comprehension as the price of admission.
    This quote from Richard Dawkins from The Greatest Show on Earth is the perfect expression of what Tuomas is up to: “After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn’t it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?"

    The lyrics of course, are all Tuomas. I know of no modern musician who writes lyrics like Tuomas.
    I love this song. The Perfume of the Timeless - who but The Grand Master (as Floor calls him) would come up with that description of the haunting presence of all our ancestors in our lives?

    Dear Jules, I find hearing from a real vocal authority what is what to keep my vocal fancies real and tracking. Yes, I can't sing and the only instrument I play is the doorbell, but that doesn't make me incapable of trying to distinguishing between good and bad execution of vocals and playing. Concerning this, I've begun to try and mend my ways and learn at least the basics of music theory.

    Thanks for sharing your reacton to this masterpiece.
    ome probability calculations:
    Step 1. Probability of a boy meeting a girl to have a romantic relationship with: one in 20,000.
    Step 2. Probability of that same boy knocking up that same girl: one in 2000.
    Step 3. Probability of right sperm meeting right egg: one in 400 quadrillion.
    Step 4. Now lets assume that you have just those 12 generations of ancestors mentioned in the intro to this song. For the probability of every one of those 12 generations of your ancestors having reproduced successfully with right sperm having met the right egg is 400 quadrillion to the 12th power.
    Given these 4 steps, the probability of you being born you at the present moment is (20k x 2k x 400 quadrillion) to the 13th power. Going backwards in time with even more generations of your ancestors, we soon reach a probability of 1 divided by the number of atoms in the entire universe. This makes each one of us a unique miracle.
    P.S. Most, if not all, of the free diving sections are taken from Guillaume Néry's short film "One Breath Around The World", which you can watch on his YT channel.

    There is a lot of reaction regarding the mix of this composition. Some love it but there are also many critics who feel the mix could have been better. Floor's vocals would not be well expressed because the lyrics cannot be understood properly. This composition seems more like film music and is not music you just go and listen to in between. The reactions are rather divided I have read.

    • @geuseliohulk8661
      @geuseliohulk8661 Před 5 dny +5

      It has already been explained. The mix is as it should be. Floor's voice is one among the choir. Just that.
      What I liked most was the chorus. It's catchy on first listen.
      But in terms of vocals, I didn't see any new difficulties for Troy and Floor.
      It must be a song that represents the different aspects that are isolated in the other songs.

    • @jpdemer5
      @jpdemer5 Před dnem

      I have no doubt that this is the mix that Tuomas wanted. The "more cowbell" school of criticism can safely be ignored.
      (I also have no doubt that Floor will let it rip when they do it live.)

  • @franshinlopen2166
    @franshinlopen2166 Před 5 dny

    You got it!
    Regarding the mix, Floor was undermixed. So what else is new? They did the same on the Endless Forms Most Beatiful album. Listen to songs like Shudder Before the Beautiful or The greatest Show on Earth on the album. Totally underwhelming. Listen to the live registrations, for example Wembley, and these songs are all of a sudden monsters. Why do they do this?

  • @alfonsorivasvalles2204

    I love Nightwish but this song just doesn't do it for me. The way Floor's voice is buried in the mix could be equated to a crime. Also the instrumentals do not sound crisp. Someone really dropped the ball.

  • @busher69
    @busher69 Před 5 dny

    I always wondered if Tuomas would come up with a follow-up to Greatest Show on Earth. It would be an amazing to view the goings on inside his mind. He is truly an amazing guy.
