However, beyond the fanfare, a significant moment unfolded as Stevie Wonder embarked on a journey to become a Ghanaian citizen. Amidst a gathering at the prestigious Jubilee House, the official residence of Ghana's presidency, the Grammy-winning musician was joined by numerous guests to commemorate this momentous occasion.
Accompanied by his family, Stevie Wonder expressed profound joy as his longstanding aspiration to relocate to Ghana was finally realized. His decision, articulated three years ago in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, reflected a desire to seek solace from racial tensions in the US and pave a better path for his descendants.
This moment coincided with Ghana's Year of Return initiative, launched in 2019 to encourage the African diaspora to reconnect with their roots by settling in the country. Following a brief ceremony, Stevie Wonder was bestowed with a Ghanaian passport, personally delivered by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
