The Gathering is one of those rare groups that is hard to pigeonhole in to one genre. It is both "coffee house alternative rock" and Heavy Metal while being neither.
Hugely underrated group.
This one specifically is more Doom Metal than anything
Atmospheric doom metal (early) - alternative/trip-rock (later). All the 6 albums with Annie are golden, but when she had left, the magic was gone IMO.
The amazing thing is: the older she gets, the better her voice gets.
Those are some of the most insane live vocal harmonies I've ever heard.
You should listen to Within Temptation doing Somewhere with Anneke as a guest. OMG... that is incredible.

@@CarnagiAngelo She is self-trained and it shows. She has one thing she does, and does it very well... totally on-key and very sweet. But it's always the same thing... so BORING! But that duet... it was perfect.

I heard this album 23 years ago and this song took my breath & soul away to a place I cant describe. Today on my bday I listen to it again and it still brings that emotion. Tears running down my face as I write, cementing that human feeling once more and making this song dear to me. Thanks The Gathering.

i love anneke she is always smiling and thats so beautiful and of course she have the most beautiful and powerful voice on earth.
Marike is a vocal goddess. Marvelous vocalists The Gathering has had over the years!
Anneke's performance is so perfect that the whole concert seems dedicated to her glory...
Even Marike's look at the start of the song seems to attest to her admiration.
Same for "Travel", Anneke crushed the song and the arrival of the three other singers at the end seems more like a tribute to her performance.
I think she is perfect in all the projects she is involved in, Ayreon, The Gentle Storm, Agua de annique, Vuur, etc.
but the music of The Gathering allows it to radiate its sensitivity and I really regret not having been able to participate in TG25.

This concert amazes me. Four singers, sharing the stage. All were leads at one time. The fact they could subjugate their egos is remarkable. The fact that Marike and Anneke could step back in, after years away is also remarkable.

These days bands do not have a decent vocals and yet, Gathering had/has three best vocals ever. How do they do it?

You gotta give Marike total support on this one... She has incredible endurance with that vocal power of hers... These two should do more together. Silje is in a level by herself as well.. She transfixes the listener it seems

I fear you might be missing out on a lot! "Older" Anneke has been involved in so many great works, check her with Devin Townsend, or Arjen Lucassen in Ayreon, or The Gentle Storm. You might know them, but just wanted to mentioned it since by your comment it seemed like you haven't heard her in a while. She got better with age.

muy por encima. No es por desvirtuar a Tarja ( son dos cantantes muy diferentes) pero ella es una cantante de Opera, ese es su estilo y así se aproxima a todo. Anneke no podrá cantar Opera como ella ( aunque SI Opera ROCK, mira en Ayreon) pero es muchísimo mas versatil. Y su voz tiene una calidéz inigualable
