EQ PEDALS ARE LITERALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT GEAR GUITARISTS SHOULD OWN BESIDES GUITARS AND AMPS.
ok
@@scription7277 IT'S TRUE.
I’d say the strings on the guitar are pretty important
I’d say a tuner is more important, but that’s why you’re out of tune.
@@cmurduh1 *Not out of tune. Just better than you at tuning and everything else in life.*
Spend a ton of money on tube amps. Add a 10 band eq. Cut all of 500hz: instant Boss Metalzone
One of the best most intuitive pedals i ever added to my board was the mxr 10 band its really underrated in terms of how it can tone shape
Was going to say the same thing: Best thing I ever did for my sound (that wasn't just practicing more) was getting a 10 band MXR EQ.
Same! Put it in the effects loop of a 6505+ and could dial in exactly what I wanted! Only minor tweaks needed, but the difference is mind blowing...
Ive never tried it in the fx loop
Great pedal
That’s a much better pedal than this piece of garbage
You told me years ago good amps dont need eq pedal.. I said a eq makes near amp sound better.. in the loop
Glad to see you're growing up
MAN is this reasonably priced! An EQ pedal is a very overlooked tool that can be essential to making your rig achieve that sound you hear in your head.
Since I got my mxr 10-band about three years ago, I run it through the loop and cannot be without it. It has definitely helped me develop my own sound there will be one on my pedalboard from now on
I just got a 10 band today, after about 10 mins I said to my wife “I don’t know if I can ever play my amps without this now” lol
@@Cwj108 I can never be without one
@@garyshelly6555 I can’t believe I went so long without one!
Thanks for mentioning the pedal costs $50. I replayed that at a louder volume to try and make my wife hear it and make her think pedals cost $50.
"Look how big it is babe, look at all the options. It's a steal at $50" 😂
Why are you thanking him.
He is being paid to shill this chinese garbage. You are thanking him for reading the sales script to you.
This channel should be called kyle bullsquat.
I got this exact one and threw it in the loop of my new triple rectifier and I gotta say it was an instant tone fix.. Thankyou for sharing the information!
I bought a six band while chasing Dimebags tone and now use it for my own personal tastes.
I have numerous pedals, im a pedal nerd... But there are only THREE that i use on absolutely everything... A noise gate, a boost and a 10-band EQ... Those 3 are super necessary. 🤘
Love EQ pedals, but prefer the GE-7 and those with a 1.6 band - I find that super important in shaping the mids
I have the very same Sonicake Tone Group and I am so happy with the tone shaping (scooped) via FX loop. Sonic bliss for my crappy beginners playing!
10-Band in the loop is a must. If I didn't have 3 already, I'd grab one of these Sonicakes.
My wife picked a 10 band off of temu and it looks like a joyo but has a different name... I tried it last night on my pedal board going to my Orange Super crush pushing a Revv 2x12 and it blew my mind. I came here for some help on settings and was thankful he used the amp i use. I 100 & 10% recommend any 10 band EQ.. even a cheap one from Temu
I just got one of these too and was using it LIVE Sunday night. It sounds great!
Awesome video! I have been using an MXR Ten Band EQ for a few years now. Makes any amp a fire breather when dialed right.
You should try a parametric EQ, more complicated to use, but the ability to fine tune one's tone is unmatched.
Put a 10 band eq in the loop of a JCM900, preferably a 2500 or 2100, and you have killer tone.
Thanks for making this video dude. I’ve seen a lot of people try to chase that Metallica tone but they always forget that they also ran an EQ in the effects loop of their amps back in the day to shape their tone even further.
I primarily a bassist but I love your channel. I was just saying to someone that the most important pieces of gear someone could have are an EQ pedal and a good compressor (at least for bass)
If you put it in the fx loop it will change the general Eq structure but in front end before a od/distortion pedal it will shape the gain structure
Use both if you want get two pedals it’s awesome what tone you dial in
I started using the EQ pedal in the effects loop about a year ago and it’s a life changer.
Before anyone ever gives up on any amp or decides they want to just try a different amp, first try an eq pedal in the effects loop.
Bravo Kyle I own 2 amps a Marshall dsl and an invective, with a little experience and gumption you can coax about any tone you want from those two they are not equal and do very different things but the Eq is almost always the secret ingredient.
I bought a 10 band EQ to help my old 6505mh, which desperately needed help. Boy did that make all the difference with the Orange. Definitely gave it that sizzle.
Gee I’m sure glad you blurred the pic in the thumbnail! What a surprise to see an EQ pedal!
Overdrives are like unbuild eq pedals with preset. So using eq before the amp is for changing gain character of the amp meanwhile using eq in a loop is for changing the tone color.
I use my Crush Pro 120 with a graphic EQ in the loop as well as a clean mid boost in front that shapes the tone and adds more of a level boost instead of adding extra gain in front of the amplifier. It truly does sound much closer to a tube amplifier than playing the amp without one.
One of my favorite things about the Crush Pro 120 with a graphic EQ is that because the amp only has bass, middle, and treble controls to dial in your tone, you don’t really have to worry about going too far with the graphic EQ while being mindful of the face knobs, giving you all the flexibility you could ever need to shape your tone without risking going overboard with shaping your tone.
I would definitely like to see a video on the 7 band before the amp. I’ve been using the 10 band for as long as I’ve been playing metal, and it’s easily one of the most useful pedals I own. It can transform an amp.
I got this pedal in the mail today based on your rec. I have a EVH 5150 15w and on the amp I boost the lows and mids, cut the highs, and add presence to compensate for the lower highs. I also bump up the resonance. Then on the EQ in the FX loop, I set the low sliders in a sort of left to right upward slant, cut the mid sliders in an upward arrow, and highs in a downward right to left slant. I use a Ibanez TS7 on the "Hot" setting, which is supposed to sound like running two Tubescreamers together. So it gives a ton of midrange, which is why I have to cut the mids with the EQ. I always play in E standard but I like to make my guitar have a downtuned flavor.
Bought the same EQ pedal from Amazon last month. One of the best EQs I ever used.
get a pair, one in front and one in the loop. SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES.
Also great video as always kyle i dont think theres many players that realise how useful these pedals can be
my mxr ten band is a must...wish someone told me years ago. tightens the amp and tailors it perfectly. The mxr even has a "volume/Db cut" so if your amp does not have a master volume it does it for you....along with a gain/distortion slider. Brilliant stuff
This video RULES!!! EQ's are an absolutely vital part of practically every rig that I build for myself and it's pretty cool to finally see a video on this topic with high gain rigs. My favorite 10-band EQ is the BOSS EQ-20 because I like those frequency centers the most. But it's got these quarks about it that always make me reach for my larger EQ's to get the job(s) done. This Sonicake pedal definitely has my attention. Thanks for making this video happen Kyle.
Wow that Orange sounds great might have to get that head.I been using the mxr 10 band for a few years now ,great video Kyle.
I’ve had one in my send and return for years. My friend just bought one as well after hearing my rig.
I had MXR10 band in the effects loop of my amp for a long time
But seen a 31 band rack eq and I had to get it, EQs in the effects loop are no joke you can shape your tone a crazy amount
Hey Kyle, I'd like to see a video about the EQ in front of the amp, maybe comparing it a little to the "in the loop" thing. EQ up front should be a highly flexible solution in stead of a overdrive (TS, no drive) as dialling back the bass should tighten up things a lot. Maybe you could even compare the EQ to a TS for that porpuse. Thanks!
My BOSS 7 band eq is what makes me sound good. Turned my Orange Super Crush into an arc welder!
I got one recently it's super useful. Makes my amp sound much better and has 2 outputs which is handy
The most powerful tool to add to your (Amp+Guitar+Cab+Mic) is a 10-band EQ.
Already had a feeling it was about EQ, and in the FX loop as well. Still gonna watch
yes EQs are a must, BUT.....amp manufacturers need to start incorporating switchable parallel/series effects loops as STANDARD instead of just having parallel, because they are useless for EQs, boosts, gates etc. That's one of the reasons I took a preference to Hughes and Kettner amps to begin with---they never shorted you on important features like MIDI or switchable FX loop. Those are MUST-HAVE features for every modern player. No questions asked.
I have a blue mxr 10 band and I run it in the loop of my Laney Iron Heart. Makes a BIG difference!
An eq pedal is common sense, like speakers.but guitarists nowadays are to busy over analyzing and nitpicking the trivial stuff to notice the obvious stuff
I like parametric EQ as a tool in front of the amp (like a configurtable mid-hump, like a really easy to control clean boost). My fractal fm3 has a parametric EQ and I can make just about any pickups sound good by dialing a suitable mid hump into the right place.
God the badlander with the final eq curve sounded fucking awesome
JCA50H was my first and to this day last tube head.
... good times.
This and a tuner are my 2 pedals that'll always be in my collection
Picked up one of these after seeing this vid. Enjoying what it’s doing with my jet city so far
Been preaching this for years. Cheers, mate.
Been preaching this for years, get an EQ put in loop listen to the magic happen.
Man you made that Badlander sound killer!! Thanks for sharing and love the channel btw! 🤙🏻🤘🏻🔥
I would like to see what you are talking about when it comes to EQ setup so yes another video on that would be great. Thanks.
I bought an Orange micro dark and wasn't happy with it's limited tone so I bought an MXR 6 band EQ (effects loop). That combined with an OD In front and it sounds fucking amazing for the size and price. I will never underestimate the importance of an EQ pedal again
Just incase anyone missed this in the video. It must be in the effects loop. It's like night and day having it in the loop versus in front of the amp
You are correct sir.Glen should try this.
Add some bass guitar and drums, and you can then lower the bass and high frequencies. By the way, I've been using an EQ for years, and I strongly believe it's very helpful. Keep up the good work!
I'm getting ready to list my mxr eq on reverb and then upgrade to the boss eq200. I could really use the midi switching and 4 different eq settings. I'm wanting it to improve my clean channel on the power amp side. I really would like to experiment with an eq on the preamp side for my drive channels. But I may end up using it for post eq. It doesn't really matter though because I use a boss es8 switcher and I can put any pedal connected to it into the pre or post position instantly. So I could have it pre for one amp channel and post for another channel.
Right now with my mxr eq, I'm limited to 1 eq setting. I currently use my eq as a megaphone effect. You know all mids and kill the highs and lows. But eqs are far too powerful of tools to just lock it in as a megaphone. I have other needs for an eq. I thing upgrading to the boss eq200 is the exact correct move for me.
Source audio EQ2 is better
@@cmurduh1 I was considering the source audio eq but the price wins for me with the boss. But I'd like to know your perspective. What about it makes it better? If there are some truly improved features, I'm not against reconsidering.
Considering I own a Super Crush, I definitely need this. THANKS
Joyo, Caline, and a bunch more have all sorts of EQ pedals, and some even have distortion pedals with a full graphical EQ built in. It doesn't have to be 10 band, but anything with at least 6 bands is fine. I have a Behringer FBQ800 stereo EQ. Lets me use two little lunchbox amps with a full global EQ for both amps.
I’d like to hear that orange with an eq, and overdrive at the same time!
That really brought the Super Crush to life.
Well done Kyle. Great vid. Couldnt have said it or explain it better. Sonicake has good stuff. I have been using my Black Hammer pedal for the last 4 years.
I have a Joyo 10 band EQ. It's a badass little pedal. $94. I'm a "cork sniffer" so saying something from JOYO is decent is saying something.
For the record...this pedal works very well with the EVH 5150 Iconic too!
Running a Boss Line Selector switching between a pair of MXR 6 Bands here.
Eq pedals aren’t sexy but they really are the most useful, versatile and best tool for tone shaping.
An EQ pedal is a must have on a pedalboard.
I've been using MXR 10 band eq in my effects loop for posted 10 years
Empress effects paraEQ + boost makes my pignose 7-100 stompbox sounds like a Marshall.
Just ordered one, many thanks 👍👍🎸
Well it worked.......They are out of stock! Good job.
3 Essential pedals for any setup.
EQ, NOISE GATE, TUNER.
I scoop mids so eq is life
Sold mate, I've just ordered one.. I have the crush pro.. lovin tha channel mate.. cheers..🤘🤘🇦🇺
Not a joke. I just got a Super Crush in today and already looped in my EQ pedal. Then I saw this video. Nice effect on tone.
You have to be kidding. That is just unbelievable!!!!
Bruh fo real!!! I use an Orange cr120h I love the saturation but it’s super flubby as you mentioned in a previous video. I don’t have an EQ pedal but I’ve been using a Radial Tonebone Plexitube pedal I’ve had for years as an additional EQ and boost all in one, I swapped out the preamp tube in the pedal with a TungSol preamp tube as well shits super punchy and articulate now
Take tremonti amp put a 10 band eq in the effects loop. Add a bit of flavor(not too much) and a touch of verb and its amazing.
I have always thought that an amplifiers 3 band on board EQ has limited tone shaping. I added 7 band EQ to almost every rig I have used for live gigs that wasn't some sort of modeler. Sure if you run your amp into a sound board and skip using cabinets all together you can shape the sound post amplification but it isn't the same as shaping before the pre-amp or between the pre-amp and power amp sections.
It depends on the amp whether I run the pedal before the pre-amp or through the effects loop between pre and power. For example; my Fender Ultimate Chorus combo has to be EQ before the pre-amp otherwise I lose the stereo chorus effect and it has plenty of shimmer on the top but the mid section control is either too much or too little it doesn't have really great fine tunability of the onboard mid level. The bottom end is okay but can get flabby and needs just a bit of punch. I have relied on the Boss GE -7 pedal for a while now but with this pedal being as inexpensive as it is I may have to give a 10 band a run. Thanks for the demo.
Finally someone tells the secret. It's literally my most important pedal why would you ever buy any other pedal than this one first. Any eq pedal is amazing most allow you to boost and cut. It's my secret weapon. Or it was. Thanks Kyle! I told everyone this nooone listened. Sold amazing amps. Eq overdrive then delay/chorus solid rigg everytime.
Trust me, using any EQ pedal in the amps loop will change your tone totally. I use a Master Effects PMEQ in the loop of my Randall Diavlo, and it changes the amp totally
I totally bought the Super Crush 100 from Amazon with the intent to settle my curiosity and return it for a refund. A $500 solid state amp couldn't possibly live up to the hype or be able to keep with my Marshall tube amps....right? Wrong. The Super Crush 100 is BADASS. I'm keeping mine. And Kyle is right! Drop a 10 band EQ on it and it will keep up with the best amps out there. It's a pretty incredible bang of the buck. I'm definitely gigging this amp.
Sculptivate freely 🤘
I have a "cool story bro".. anyways when I was younger I walked into a mom and pop guitar store.. looked at a Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ.. and my mind exploded lol..I immediately knew the potential and had no idea EQ pedals were a thing. I got that pedal for like $40 or something. Still have it.. noisy as hell but it worked at the time turning a crap $100 "raven" 4x12 and some other crap 100w head into a Brutal Death Metal machine.
I couldn't decide which sounded worse the mesa boogie or the mesa boogie.
I've used an MXR M-108 in my effects loop for a long time now. It's the last in the chain, acting like a 10-band presence control. I've found you don't really need much tweaking beyond mid-line to make significant changes to the overall tone. I really think more amps need to have one built into them.
Eq in front of the amp, eq in the effects loop.... can make any damn sound you want.
Kyle nice vidéo on 10 band eq!
An eq pedal can be super useful, but it takes time and patience to dial it in. Also, I realized you're the John Cena of guitar gear. 😂
MXR 10 band EQ has 18 watts of boost and like a boost and OD pedal in one put it in your effects loop has volume and gain control on it
sure does
It runs on 18 volts.
It does not output 18 watts.
@@vorpalblades it is 18 volts it's essentially a preamp EQ like a power section look it up man
you don’t need a 10 band. actually those graphic eqs are look like a hairbrush on the eq spectrum, very narrow q notches. you’re better off getting a 2 band parametric eq, make a wide boost in the 1-2k register for cut and dip down 200-400hz for tightness. thats all you need
Parametrics are great, however, the 10 band has been a staple for decades with guitar players, and that's because they're simple and they do the job. The majority of guitarists I've talked to don't even know what a parametric EQ is, let alone how to dial it to get what they want from it
I use one in front and in the loop
Love seeing the Jet Citys pop up. People sleep on those amps
Belligerent amateur is a good band name.
I can easily make crate sound badass with one of these. I use the Boss 10 band and do a mid hump except I completely drop the 800hz. I also push the shape all the way to the left on the Crate.
Turn on a 1222 I think it’s the perfect seven Roker
If I could only have two pedals on my board, I'd have two EQ's, one before the amp to shape the character of the preamp's distortion and the other in the loop to tweak the overall EQ.
They are invaluable sound shaping tools if you know what you're doing.
There are some 4cm EQ pedals that allow you to do both at once!
After spending time in the studio recording and producing I completely agree. A lot of the frequencies I would mess with in post were often fixed or greatly mitigated with an eq on your rig or your digital chain.
