Agreed, but a lot of girls grew up with Mean Girls rather than Clueless(There’s probably close to a ten year gap between the two movies, I can’t remember when Clueless came out), so Mean Girls might have been the movie to introduce them to these trends. But Clueless definitely did it first!!
Yeah most of the fashion trends listed already existed and were popular before the movie came out. Preppy knits were already big, hoop earrings were everywhere, T-shirts with phrases had been big since 2001-01, etc. Not sure about mini purses but I guarantee Paris Hilton was walking around with them in 2003. Although mini skirts and high heels were already around, I do think Mean Girls re-popularized them for the high school crowd. Especially the mini skirt and attitude t-shirt combo.

I was 16 when this movie came out and I will say the wardrobe looks in the film were reflective of that time, not that they influenced that time. We definitely wore all of those trends, but we were already wearing them when the film premiered. Except for the Halloween/Christmas costumes and “Wednesday rule”. That definitely came from this film. No one really adapted the other rules lol
