  • In this video I review the Black Diamond Distance 8 pack which I have been using for fast and light adventures and runs.
    Note: It appears the soft flasks I reference in the video are no longer made. But it does appear the Black Diamond is now back in stock with their branded flasks that should fit as of 3/2021.

    Fantastic review. Thanks for making the effort to share your perspectives on the gear. Looks like BD has made a bunch of changes to the newer version that address some of your identified shortcomings.

      how did the new bd flasks fit into your distance back?

    • @kirbyateu
      @kirbyateu Před 3 lety

      @@BeatzarrAudios It’s very difficult and it takes me a while to even fit one inside the designated pocket. I wish the pack’s pockets were larger or had a drawstring pouch like other vests do.

      @@kirbyateu thanks for your help. i realy love my 15 pack for light and fast mountaineering. nothing quite like it on the market but the design of the pockets is a real downside. i dont get it. pockets way too low and tight.

    • @kirbyateu
      @kirbyateu Před 3 lety

      @@BeatzarrAudios I agree! I love the pack itself for its design, weight, and size. But the front pockets are the only downside for me too. I used it for trail running and as my summit pack for a couple 14ers the past month and it was a pain to reach in a take a sip cus I didn’t want to bother taking out the flask from the pocket. Wish they improved the ergonomics/placement and the sizing of the pockets. Would love for the next itineration of the pack to implement these changes.

      @@kirbyateu i just found a way that works for me: i'm jusing the thiner and higher salomon flasks and attach them to the vest with a hair tie( into the daisy chain thing where the two buckles go) they sit tight but are easy to get in and out. also the hight is somewhat comfortable for drinking while moving.

    Thanks for the review! Very informative. I had a question regarding the top of the pack where you close it up. I’ve seen mediocre amateurs (CZcams channel) using the 15L version and they were able to tie down climbing rope under the top closure. Do you think a smaller pair of snowshoes could be clipped under it? I use the MSR Evo ascents, they aren’t super huge but I’m guessing it won’t fit but just curious if you think it might. Lots of spring trips here in the PNW can be made easier with snowshoes 😩😩😩

      @mmoutdoors1 Před 3 lety

      Actually I just watched another video with a different angle and I’m gonna guess it definitely won’t fit haha. The 15 is probably bigger so you can fit more under it is my guess

      @BurleyOutdoors  Před 3 lety

      Its a pretty small pack. There is no way snowshoes are going to fit. Even on the 15. The top strap is made of elastic and not that strong. I would look at a different pack if you want to carry snow shoes with you.

    Do you think it’s possible put a pair of telescopic trekking poles on the side tighten up with the strings? Thx. I don’t have the z poles and think it might be too long to go into the pockets.

    • @BurleyOutdoors
      @BurleyOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      You could. might have to use some more cord as the thins cord that’s there I’m not sure if you could get tight enough to do that. Poles might fall out.

    Did you ever try fitting the half liter BeFree filtered flask in either of the front pockets? If so, how did it work out for you?

    • @BurleyOutdoors
      @BurleyOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      I just tried it. Pain the the butt. 90% full of water BeFree and I got it about 50% of the way in after struggling for 2 min. Not worth the trouble. Use the BeFree cap with the bottle I showed in the video. Better solution. Honestly since this review I mainly use Salomon bottles and bags that fit those.

    Thank you. They still don't have the 500ml bottles! What reservoir would you recommend that would fit in there?

    • @BurleyOutdoors
      @BurleyOutdoors  Před rokem

      You could fit a 3L in the bag but might be too long for the pouch. 2L would fit in the pouch. I have had good luck with Source bladders.
