      @BobPapadopoulos Před 8 lety

      +Gary Murray Doubt it would change all that much. Drinking neat whiskey isn't as popular as it used to be and half the people I see in bars or clubs are drinkin cocktails instead, most made with American brands. Irish booze nationalism isn't really so much a thing in the spirits area as it is with beer anymore.

    • @mogadishusneeze
      @mogadishusneeze Před 8 lety

      +Bob Papadopoulos With respect, you won't see a serious whiskey drinker in a bar or club, and if you do, they won't be drinking whiskey. Example; I drink whiskey, but if I went out for the night and just had a whiskey every time a round was got in, I wouldn't even have my buzz on by the time the night was over. Reason being is the piddly measures you get in a bar, at a huge mark up too. To a regular whiskey drinker, a real dram (which is a single measure in a bar) is a triple to them. You'd be a moron to stay on triples for the night given the cost of them in an Irish bar. Having about 13-15 triples for the night works out at around the price of 5 bottles of whiskey you could have at home to enjoy in comfort. Usually I just drink Guinness when I'm out and every 2nd or 3rd pint I'd have a double as well.

    A couple of those were bourbon (made in charred barrels) so they will taste different, and may be why that girl thought of french toast on that Jim Beam. The FDA also doesn't allow the barrels to be reused in America, so we sell them to Ireland and Scotland where they prefer barrels which have been kind of primed by the first batch

      No, it's a fact. Whiskeys have a softer vanilla and honey flavor because they are aged in bourbon barrels. Bourbon barrels are made from white oak trees that are generally at least 90 years old. The vanilla and caramel flavors in bourbon are much bolder because the barrels are newer and darker. Distillers cannot achieve these soft vanilla and honey flavors with French oak. By aging whiskey in bourbon barrels that were first bourbon aged and then sherry aged, whiskey distillers can achieve softer tones. This means that prior to American bourbon distillation European whiskeys were very harsh and simple. I'm not saying whiskey is bad. Jack Daniel's, for example, makes a decent whiskey. But without Kentucky bourbon, that Irish and Scotch whiskey you rightfully enjoy would not exist in the form it does now.

I guarantee you had they known which whiskey was American I am positive they would have said shit like "oh this is so artificial", "tastes more unhealthy", "much sweeter", "terrible", etc.
    But with a blind taste test they cannot let their ignorant prejudices affect their choices. Just like the American candy taste test, where the Irish liked the American candy more and were more surprised saying things like "Oh wow this is amazing", "Oh I thought it was more natural." That one ginger girl even admitted how she thought American candy would be more artificial but found out that Irish candy was much more artificial and more sweet.
    Its amazing how well the US does taste wise worldwide when you get rid of people's biases overseas.

  • @Adamantium93
    @Adamantium93 Před 5 lety

    Fun fact: A lot of Irish distilleries actually use barrels that were previously used to make bourbon. The reason why is that, by law, barrels can only be used once to make bourbon. Therefore, once a new barrel has been used to age the spirit, the bourbon distiller has to get rid of the barrel. The barrels are still perfectly good for making whiskey, so bourbon distillers sell them cheap to other distilleries. Irish whiskey makers buy them and use them to make their whiskies. I was actually in Ireland recently and a distiller hit me with that piece of trivia on a tour.

    The first American Whiskey makers were Irish and Scotch, but they made do with the ingredients on hand and usually didn't have the aging like back home. I like Kentucky bourbon, but good Irish whiskey truly is the water of life.

    The best part is his leather jacket squeezing as he takes another shot down the guzzle. Glad he got the Jameson right haha

    I’m American and I’m a huge fan or Irish whiskey. Love the smoothie taste and hints of vanilla wood of the barrels. Mixing Irish whiskey and American Bourbon is special.
