Most of the boys who've played Gavroche play have done the Artful Dodger as well. For example, Daniel Huttlestone from the Les Mis movie is the Artful Dodger in the current Oliver production.
This is partly because the creators of Les Mis patterned Gavroche after Dodger. They liked the spunky attitude and liveliness of the Dodger character and wanted a similar role for a boy.
I was watching clips of the oliver film last night and my husband said hey its the little boy from les mis. He insisted it was the same accent etc. I said thats because both sound cockney! He doesn't know musicals very well!! lol!
The creator of the Les Miserables musical saw Oliver and said that the moment that the Artful Dodger came on stage he instantly thought of Gavroche! This made him dream up the idea of a Les Miserables concept album, which spawned the musical! I love Dodger's character and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play him in two different local productions of Oliver!
@@MarkHarrison733 not entirely true. Yes he was born in Lancashire, but was brought up in Hounslow, west London from a young age. He wasn’t caste in the role of dodger until 1968 when he was 16.

Jack Wild was from Lancashire. He had a fake Cockney accent.
