    Some comments here are asking about 'cultural appropriation.' Cultures that exist so closely is bound to borrow from each other. However, the problem with our society is not that white people use black cultural styles etc. The problem is when no reference/recognition is given to the culture from which the style was taken, instead they act as though they came up with the idea all on their own. The other aspect of 'cultural disrespect' is when the cultural styles are negatively looked upon by society when it is done by people of the same culture, but when the same thing is used or done by an individual who is not part of the culture all of a sudden the same thing is beautiful, aceptable, good or cool. This is completely biased. At least Ms. Carter is explaining where the idea for her designs came from.

    Racism can be any color - both white and black. It was precisely that kind of false attribution of evil to various human groups that was the essence of racism. Art must fight all forms of exclusion, racism, xenophobia and integrism.

      Social prejudice and discrimination are major factors in the expansion of the epidemic of animosities and human stupidity. Addressing prejudice and stereotypes, which increase polarization among cultures, was equally important. This is very difficult to do.

      Racism is mainly white because it has been developed greatly and is still being used by the current civilization that has been ruling the world for centuries now and which is the western civilization. It's a system made of discriminatory laws, propaganda in the media/art/ and in the educational system. Individuals in a racist civilization who simply hate others based on their physical differences or who do not want to fight institutionalized racism help maintain the system.

    • @rldriver4470

      Laitalafraise you are correct and racism is also learned behavior, generation after generation. As long as there are Caucasian alive we will always have racism. No one is born racist.

      RL Driver - So when Arabs systemically oppress South Asians in their homelands because of their self-proclaimed superiority - that is not racism because no whites are involved? When Han Chinese systemically oppress Uyghurs and forbid them to practice their culture and speak their language, that is not racism because no whites are involved?

    • @Mmmnnn322
      @Mmmnnn322 Před 6 lety +38

      rotate85 No. Cultural appropriation is when you appropriate someone else’s culture. The characters in this film are African, and are wearing African inspired clothing. Also, the actors in this fire have African ancestors so they’re technically not appropriating.

    • @Phronesis7

      Not in the slightest. This is being done BY Africans. Africans are involved in the creation of the art, Africans are given CREDIT for what THEY put on and created. Look up the actual definition of that term again
